2015-2016 University of Tennessee Health Science Center Application Thread

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
My survey came like 3 days before my acceptance package. They may throw all the surveys in one box and send it off while they throw the decisions in another.

Congrats to all accepted! If you would like to ask some anonymous questions to a current med student here, go right ahead.

I did that and they were happy to work me in. I of course waited until after I submitted my secondary and then looked at the dates they had interviews and picked the one (or few if you are in town a while) that worked for me. I emailed admissions a very polite email along the lines of "I submitted my secondary... blah blah... if I'm selected to interview, it would be convenient for me to interview on these days because I will be in town."

Interview Dates: https://www.uthsc.edu/Medicine/Admissions/schedules/interview-dates.pdf
Who did you email?

Acceptance and survey got here today!!!

There is always a FB group. It will probably be made soon, but it's pretty important to have since we have our announcements and trade study materials on there.

Anyone want to make one? I'll be without internet this spring or I would offer.

Usually the school makes the facebook group, at least that how it has been for my other acceptances.

I just made it. Did you already make one or have you already been added to one?

To echo Munty...don't most schools coordinate these later through currently enrolled MD students?

It seems as though last year someone just went ahead and made one and then posted the link.

So looking at the thread from last year, those who interviewed right around this time received their decisions before Christmas.

Have they given out interviews for the 14th-16th yet?

Still checking my email around the clock for my interview date. Submitted late October, so...

Just finished my interview day. I really enjoyed it. My interviewers were super chill and even though I had heard that my academic interviewer supposedly grills people on ethical questions and their grades, I really didn't feel that. Very conversational.
They're very quick with turnaround. They meet every Friday and send the decisions the next Friday.
How was your day @Lost_In_Transcription?

I really enjoyed my time at UT. The interview day was very relaxed, and the students were very open and honest about the pros and cons of the school. I do think the feel of the interview can vary based on the interviewer, but I think we were all lucky today and got the more laid back ones.

Trouble trouble. I just got an email saying they haven't received my Secondary and/or signed form. I sent both less than a week after my secondary invite, so obviously, now I'm worried how this will impact my chances of acceptance. Anyone else have this happen?

Oh yea absolutely. I was surprised. I had heard my 2nd interviewer was brutal, but he was pretty great.

I completed my secondary Oct. 8 and still haven't received a II yet. I'm instate, 505 MCAT, 3.83 science GPA, 3.89 overall, two research experience internships, good leadership extracurriculars, Chemistry and Spanish major, etc. Also in-state. Should I be concerned?

Clinical experience?

I've done some shadowing with primary care physicians and hospitalists which I wrote about in my personal statement. . My research experience at UVM was clinical neuroscience. Not sure if that counts.

Well clinical research is still research and not pure patient interaction. Also if you've only ever shadowed primary care id try to get in with a few specialists. If I had to venture a guess, that's what the adcom is iffy on.

I worked with patients to help administer cognitive testing as well as MRI stuff. I'm not sure. Hopefully, this won't be a dealbreaker.

Definitely. I mean your MCAT is borderline, as you probably know, but that shouldn't be a deal breaker unless you made <125 on any section. But there are definitely a TON of interviews left, so stay hopeful.

right. I thought a secondary request was a guaranteed interview here?

Obviously, I'm slightly terrified. We're all in the same boat I guess.

I have almost identical stats and majors with a little more clinical experience. I've also been completed way longer and no interview. I emailed and was told they plan on interviewing me just don't have a date planned yet

I think it's relatively early to be concerned considering they interview until April (they will have only used 50% of the interview dates by Jan) Plus as much as I love SDN for stressing over med school stuff, I would argue that it's not an accurate representation of acceptances/waitlists etc. There are plenty of people who don't have accounts, who don't post if they got accepted or WL, or who are accepted but have already been accepted into their top choice school.

So as someone in the same boat as you, we still got this!;)

Anyone in the past received the survey email on a Saturday? Diane told us we would have our decisions sent out yesterday.

When did you interview? Diane said the committee met yesterday but they will send the decisions this next week

When I interviewed Tuesday, she told us that when they decided on Friday, she was going to send the decisions out that same day rather than waiting a week like Mr. Strother mentioned at the beginning of the day. When did you interview?

Oh hmm that would be nice. I interviewed the 1st

Gotcha! Well shouldn't yours have already been decided last week? or did they not meet last Friday?
I just really want my decision to come in before I leave for vacation next Saturday! And I live in Maryland right now, so it takes a little longer.
