However, I will say that this is now my response.
Mhave not really been following this story, but noticed that one news outlet supposedly outed her real name and the name of the school she attends. Anyone else think publishing her true identity aisnt right?
This depends on your religion. In many protestant circles, all sins are equal. Whether you're masturbating or knifing your neighbor, you're going to hell without dat forgiveness. Catholics seem to be the weird ones about degrees of sin that are always harping against masturbation. You are getting emotional now.
Sins are of varying categories. Some are greater sins and some are smaller ones.
Btw, your comment about religion might offend people who are religious.
According to huffington post the auction was called off.
The Daily Mail is a British tabloid, not exactly the pinnacle of journalism.I have not really been following this story, but noticed that one news outlet supposedly outed her real name and the name of the school she attends. Anyone else think publishing her true identity isn't right?
If a guy had offered his services and done the same thing she did, yes, the hammer of medical school professionalism would have fallen on him too. Don't make this a sexism case when it's not, bc it cheapens REAL sexism cases. And so her identity is revealed and now her actions are perceived to be sullying the reputation of her university.
Can't say I'm surprised. With the power of the internet and social media, a little too much information revealed will open you up like a dam with one too many cracks. I hope things go well for her from here on, but chances are that she might have to turn to something other than medicine if not find some alternate route into it.
I like how she thinks the forecoming actions against her are considered evidence of a paternalistic society repressing/controlling female sexuality. Not that I'm arguing that paternalism exists or not--that's besides my point--but if a guy offered his sexual services on the internet like that, would a school have done differently? I rest my case.
Or you can be like an MD/PhD I know who did a few low-budget porn flicks in undergrad and mention the occupation on the AMCAS app as something more benign (e.g., rather than "adult film actor", try "entertainer"). He had to mention them because he got taxed on his income.

I was just going to edit and say, they'd probably be even harder on the guy.Eh, I bet the hammer would drop a bit harder on the guy. Med schools over-try the politically correct thing way hard. Not to mention the fact that since a male doesn't have a physical representation of his virginity, the argument is going to be a bit different regarding selling it. No BS, I've seen it argued in court where men cannot be raped due to their respective physical genitalia and it's construction. I'm not joking at all.
If a guy had offered his services on the Internet, he'd probably get zero offers.

False. I would pay good money to sleep with James Deen.
You're weird
Was that supposed to hurt my feelings?
I was about to say, if that's your goal you gotta try harder.

That is not entirely accurate. Depends on the kind of guy.
I was about to say, if that's your goal you gotta try harder.
What lady would pay to take a man's virginity? Whatever the cost, that'd be an expensive 30 seconds.
False. I would pay good money to sleep with James Deen.
Saying you'd do it and actually doing it are two separate things. He'll sleep with you for free if he can film it.
I know he would. Unfortunately, that brings up the professionalism thing again. If it couldn't possibly hurt my career I would. But it could. And no lay is worth that much to me.
I'm sure her goal was to gain your respect.Hmmm sadly I would have respected her far more if she went through with the auction. IMO she was at least bold before but now has lost all her credibility and has truly become a joke.

LOL but she is really emphasizing society's moral outlook. That being said this would be perfectly supportable in Undergrad. Medicine needs to be better.I'm sure her goal was to gain your respect.

Be smarter than Ms. Kern, conceal your identity
The smart thing is to not do it. Screwing a famous porn star and putting it on the internet = you can't conceal your identity. Trust me, I've thought this through and doing any sort of porn is just too risky. About the only thing one could do is stripping, and that doesn't even pay that well. Also pole dancing is super difficult.
I thought women were not into porn(at least the majority)......
Also, I thought you were gay. Why would you be sleeping with a male pornstar?
Pole dancer =/= stripper. Not that there's anything wrong with either.

I've never been to a strip club that didn't have poles. Do those seriously exist?
I'm queer, let's just keep it at that.

Clearly you don't know as much about porn as you thought you did.
Oh I totally agree. I've just never been to one without poles, and I've been to a few. I always like the chat with the girls if they aren't super busy.Last one I went to didn't have poles. Some of those strippers have pretty interesting life stories once you get to know them.
Yeah there are two completely different schools of feminist thought on sex work. I'm in the camp of it can be a force for good, and we shouldn't shame sex workers. Others believe it's always degrading, and there isn't really much choice going on in the matter. And I'm guessing you probably haven't talked to a lot of women about porn in general, or the ones who you have talked to are just as religious as you are. People watch porn. People masturbate.Well, most of the time feminist chant how porn is degrading and against women. How it degrades women and that sort of the stuff. You don't often see women saying " hey, I love porn just as much as men do."
Stop savin these hoes ol' sucka for love having ass ninja.Last one I went to didn't have poles. Some of those strippers have pretty interesting life stories once you get to know them.

I guess you are right about the bolded part.
I assume the camp in which you belong isn't that vocal or have that many members, otherwise people like you would have been able to counter the school of thought which have been against pornography. I don't see your major representation in mainstream news outlets.
How have we not been successful? I think everyone here can find porn within about 5 seconds. There's a strong feminist voice in the porn industry that's only going to get bigger due to a demand for porn aimed towards women and couples. We have our own awards for feck's sake.
Are you truly this much in a bubble?I thought women were not into porn(at least the majority)......
There's people in med school like that?
I don't think the easy accessibility of porn is mainly because of unorthodox feminism. Porn existed way before that and the feminist voice which opposes pornography is far stronger and more vocal compared to the one which is advocating it.
