Since there is no thread for UCVM 2027 yet, I decided to make one ! What did everyone think of the MCAT ?
That exam sucked the soul out of me but I got my score today and it looks like I am applying to UCVM this year!!! Currently crying internal happy tears.Since there is no thread for UCVM 2027 yet, I decided to make one ! What did everyone think of the MCAT ?
I will be as long as there are seats left for non-IPA students after BC decides how many they are taking over.Who's applying to WCVM this year?!
They are supposed to be uploaded/updated in a couple weeks. There is supposedly nothing changing according to the UCVM.Does anyone know or heard when the admission requirements will be updated on UCVM website. It said late Aug but still nothing!
Congratulations! I also feel like the MCAT sucked my soul but I don't get my score until Sept 13th, honestly just hoping for a 495 at this point. That exam sucked the soul out of me but I got my score today and it looks like I am applying to UCVM this year!!! Currently crying internal happy tears.
Im hoping for that 495 as well lolCongratulations! I also feel like the MCAT sucked my soul but I don't get my score until Sept 13th, honestly just hoping for a 495 at this point.
Congratulations!! You must be so relievedThat exam sucked the soul out of me but I got my score today and it looks like I am applying to UCVM this year!!! Currently crying internal happy tears.
Thank you!! I definitely felt a huge weight lifted off my shoulders. I'm sure you will do just fine!Congratulations!! You must be so relieved
Congratulations!!! I just looked and the admission timelines and the admission review are up on the UCVM website. I'm getting so excited to apply!!Ok so I got my MCAT score back and it's good enough to apply (500). Seriously if anyone is reading this who doesn't think they can do the MCAT, you totally can. I has been 10 years since I took some of those classes and remembered nothing and I work full time and had basically no time to study.
I'm so relieved that I can apply this year.
Congratulations !! The MCAT is so intimidating , so thanks for sharing ! I get my score soon and I’m hoping it was enoughOk so I got my MCAT score back and it's good enough to apply (500). I don't think they care about retakes just as long as you have the minimum score in the past 3 years. You could try emailing them to verify. It's a hard exam so don't beat yourself up. There is always next year to apply! Try to stay positive as hard as it may be right now.K im honestly devastated about the MCAT. I somehow got 9-10 below my FL average and JUST didn't make the cutoff........ Do we know if UCVM cares about retakes ??? I don't know what the frick happened
My understanding is they don't care about retakes, as long as you apply with that 495, the number of attempts and your score above that threshold is not considered. It's a really hard exam, you should be proud of yourself for writing it!K im honestly devastated about the MCAT. I somehow got 9-10 below my FL average and JUST didn't make the cutoff........ Update: I called the office and they what you guys were saying! Thank you <3 .... The CARS section absolutely murdered me on this exam so I guess I need to learn how to read better 🥴My understanding is they don't care about retakes, as long as you apply with that 495, the number of attempts and your score above that threshold is not considered. And for your next time writing it, you know what to expect now so you're better prepared Best of luck!Thank you <3 .... The CARS section absolutely murdered me on this exam so I guess I need to learn how to read better 🥴
Right there with yaThank you <3 .... The CARS section absolutely murdered me on this exam so I guess I need to learn how to read better 🥴
You're not alone! CARS was my worst section even with all the highlighting and practice I did.Right there with ya
My score distribution was literally 124(c/p)/💀120CARS💀/124(bio)/ 126 (p/s)....494 🥲You're not alone! CARS was my worst section even with all the highlighting and practice I did.
I cant apply this year , but I was wondering if you have to mention anywhere on an application that you withdrew from a class?Just to chime in, I'm a first year at UCVM and I am extremely familiar with the admissions requirements, so feel free to ask me anything and I will try my very best to help you!
I believe there is a section where it asks if you repeated any of the prerequisite classes. I'm not sure they would necessarily hold it against you though, because I know a couple people that repeated courses and were fine!I cant apply this year , but I was wondering if you have to mention anywhere on an application that you withdrew from a class?
Just a heads up that since Saskatchewan and Manitoba have put down funding for an additional 5 seats each, this leaves only 20 non-IPA seats at the WCVM. We currently don't know whether BC will take up those seats (like they did last year) since they will confirm their decision pretty late - probably next March. Although I guess it doesn't hurt to apply to both UCVM and WCVM if you can, be cautious that there is a chance that there'll be no non-IPA seats available the upcoming year.Who's applying to WCVM this year?!
I think it depends on how you wrote the practice FL versus the real one. If you wrote the practice FL's as similar to the real exam conditions as possible (no phone, new location, replicate the break times) then your score will be more comparable. On my real one, I got the exact score of the average of all my AAMC practice ones, and I practiced them all under real exam conditions. I did know a few people that wrote the practice ones in chunks, so not all at once, and their practice scores were way higher than their actual score! If 507 was your average on the AAMC FL's (I found those by far the most representative), then that's great!Hi everyone! I found this forum last night, if there are any UCVM first/second years I would greatly appreciate any advice on the admissions process! I started my application as soon as it opened Monday and haven’t applied before so this is a new experience for me. Very exciting!! I find out my MCAT score on Tuesday- I’m not too worried about my score because I was getting about 506/507 on the official FL practice exams, but I saw somewhere that someone scored 9-10 points lower on their exam than the practice FLs. Did anyone else experience that? And if you did, which section was the furthest off?
I had a really similar question myself when I applied! Take this with a grain of salt as this is only my personal opinion and so I don't know that this is definitively the better route, but I ended up going with the references that spent the most time with me. The doctors and staff who know you better can better speak to your abilities and they would be able to give you a more genuine recommendation. A specialist who only spent a bit of time with you can definitely say good things, but it surely won't be as in depth and convincing as someone who's worked with you more closely! That’s great to hear! I did replicate the exam conditions and the real exam felt very similar to the practice ones.
I’m wondering if anyone knows what questions the references are asked? Knowing this might help me narrow down my list of people I am considering… I have a criticalist I could ask but haven’t worked with extensively. He would probably say positive things but doesn’t know me very well. My other options include doctors that may have less experience and credentials or ER techs, but they know me a bit better.
I did practice under exam conditions, but CARS was wayyy off for me. Every other section was true to the practice full lengths though. Im sure youre just fine, I got very unlucky!! Congratulations! You should be proud of yourselfI just got my score, and it looks like I’ll be applying this year! CARS was definitely my worst section and I walked away from the MCAT feeling completely defeated. I had such a busy year before with work and grad school that I barely had time to study and did not have a chance to write any practice tests. I’m shaking, so so happy
I guess you’ll just have to ask your referees to be discreet? I’m also having a hard time with that section, I can’t really decide who is best to be my work/volunteer supervisor referee. I’m wondering if I should ask a few people if they might be interested and see how they respond.I’m kind of struggling with the referee section… in past years you would only require references if you got the interview. I’m trying to keep my application on the DL 🫣
I would call and ask to get some clarification. Perhaps they mean that you shouldn’t have retaken more than 4 within 10 years, and would ignore whatever was taken more than 10 years ago.Ugh. I wish UCVM would just keep their requirements the same. This isn't my first time applying and a couple of years ago they were specifying that required courses over 10 years old should be repeated (similar to Cumming School of Medicine) so I retook almost all of them. Now they're saying you can't have retaken more than 4 of them. Should I even bother applying or just explain in the question that addresses this? I feel like it's a moot point, I meet the MCAT requirement which is basically all the core courses smooshed together.
This is my best guess at what they mean. I would clarify with Admissions but I think you're good if the original courses you retook were taken more than 10 years agoI would call and ask to get some clarification. Perhaps they mean that you shouldn’t have retaken more than 4 within 10 years, and would ignore whatever was taken more than 10 years ago.
Was there a section that let you state which reference was which? Im struggling with this section :/I had a really similar question myself when I applied! I believe you enter some information in your application like their names and emails and once you submit it, UCVM will email them a form to fill out and send back. I think our deadline for them to email it back last year to UCVM was December 3. Once they submit it, you will receive an email, and your U of C portal "to-do list" should cross them off. Feel free to PM me if you want more help! Was there a section that let you state which reference was which? Im struggling with this section :/
