I know this question isn't directed towards me, but I wanted to jump in. Personally, I'm on the other side and I would pick Penn over LIU. The difference in cost is only around 20-30k for the whole program for OOS (which is not a significant difference to me in comparison to the whole tuition - $200k+). Penn is one of the Ivies. I DO NOT believe that students who graduate from the Ivy League schools are "better" than non-Ivy League students, but I can't deny that the networking and connections that you get from going to one of these big schools is literally insane. I remember reading about how 70% of students who go to Ivies are able to secure jobs before graduating because of the connections you get from going to these schools. Additionally, there was a study from Indeed showing that about 77% of employers will give preference and higher starting pays to graduates from "elite" universities.
I think that both LIU and Penn are great schools and I'm confident that they can both produce equally amazing veterinarians, but I would choose Penn simply for the post-graduation networking and employment benefits. To me, these benefits outweigh the 20-30k difference in tuition. The way that I see it...we're all gonna end up with crazy amounts of debt no matter where we go and a 20-30k difference is pretty small in comparison to the total tuition which is hundreds of thousands. Additionally, COL (cost of living) in PA is less than NY. Avg. rent in west-Philadelphia is about $1,800-1,900 compared to Brookeville, NY which is about $2,200-2,300 for example. The estimated $500/monthly difference of COL/rent in PA will already make up for the slight difference in tuition compared to LIU anyways. You'll save about 20k on rent alone living in PA vs. NY.....Overall, I would expect to pay roughly the same amount for LIU and PennVet over the four years...give or take about 10k.
