for those of you who are waitlisted.. have you guys done anything to try and improve your chances of getting off the waitlist?

i just emailed my interviewer.. another thread suggested it. thinking about an intent letter. but im guessing the chances that will help at a school like ucla are low... any other suggestions?

ucla could care less about LOI espousing a bunch of junk. Updates would help including grades, activities, etc. If you have another LOR that might help but i remember someone posting back that little matters here outside of possibly grades.
 
sorry to interrupt the discussion about when y'all are going to hear back (I'm crossing my fingers for all of you!) but I was wondering if any current students could post an example of a typical weekly schedule. Also, I would like to know what the weekly assignment load is and how often tests/quizzes are and when you get breaks/time off and that kind of stuff. I didn't really get that clear of an idea at 2nd look and I'd really like to know what it's like before I make my final decision. Thanks a lot!

yeah.. i agree. already sent them an update letter pre-interview. nothings changed since then lol. and they have my transcript from fall.. so no new grades.

by the way, how did you let them know about wanting to be on the waitlist -- email, letter, phone?

email. Then i called back a few weeks later to make sure they got it.

I have a question that someone may know the answer: At this point, is it better to be no status change or on the wait list?

It really is very hard to say whether it is better to be on the waitlist or not. The pattern for March and last years has been acceptances->waitlists->rejections. If you look at March, acceptances sent out at the beginning, waitlists sent out around the 15th, and then a whole bunch of rejections sent out around the 26th. There are so many factors in play such as if the committee has actually reviewed your file and whether there are any acceptance spots left. All we can do is wait and see. Their admissions process takes such a long time for some reason.

you are right... they won't help.

just got an email back from my interviewer. I emailed her yesterday telling her know of my status and also a couple of paragraphs on why ucla is a good fit for me, etc.

here is an excerpt from she said:

At this point this is nothing specific you can do to improve your chances – your record and your application speak for themselves at this point. A letter to the Deans Office does not change that process either – but of course it is your right to try.
 
This might be a silly question, but on the application status webpage, what status is reflected in the interview section after you completed the interview?

Mine says "scheduled" (interviewed already on February 19). I'm wondering if that's normal?

No idea, but based on last year's thread, very few acceptances went out after March. It was almost all waitlists/holds/rejections. Blah.

Good things happen to those that are waitlisted :)

A friend of mine was waitlisted after interviewing in March and was accepted in late May last year.

Yep. Significant amounts of people get accepted from the waitlist each year. Just look at how many people have opened UCLA vs. another school threads, shows how many people are considering multiple schools.

As for the rest of us... the end of month is coming T_T
 
yikes! just got the "letter sent" status, and it's marked 4/23. it definitely wasn't there yesterday, though, b/c i checked last night. eeek!
 
Meep I got letter sent too. Definitely not good. :laugh: I'm kind of relieved in a way too though, because this pretty much seals the deal on where I'm attending next year. Good luck to everyone still waiting! :)

It's like a second-tier waitlist. They don't go to the hold list until after the entire waitlist is exhausted -- so pretty much it's like a rejection. :p I've heard that UCLA has made it to the hold list in the past, but it almost never happens.

Plus, aren't there 350+ students on the waitlist at UCLA already? So it is a rejection.

weird that they're suddenly bringing the "hold" status back...does that mean there's still a round of rejections left..?

mine is still blank. i wonder if (and it's a big if) those of us waiting don't get rejected in the next month, when it does come to movement past may 15th, do they go for us no-status-ers first, or the wl first??

I think they brought the Hold status back just for me. :laugh:

I talked to an MS1 who didn't get his post-interview decision until June (was waitlisted). This is after the waitlist had already been moving. So yeah, I think they can go for the WL before the no-status people even hear anything.

Not yet, but I'll be stalking/tackling my mailman this afternoon. :) Will post here what my results are if I get the letter today.
 
cant believe it..still no status change....and interviewed in october. i called in, and the lady said that its good news for me, but said that they are still deciding for sure what to do with me this week. i said "please dont get my hopes up", and she said "its okay to get your hopes up, but just have more patience" what do you guys think this means???

I think it means that there are still acceptances to be handed out, but try not to overanalyze. Good luck!

the admissions office has no idea about the status of your application once it goes to committee. they've been giving out non-specific information all year and i honestly wouldnt look that much into it.

What's the phone number? I'm going to call one of these days.

And while that comment definitely sounds good, I would try to keep my hopes down, just in case...you never know if the person you spoke to has accurate information, or what her idea of "good news" is (she might consider anything but rejection good news?). Good luck though!
 
No status change for me either, interviewed back in September.
 
Well this was kinda expected, but I called and ask if they were still doing interviews and they said "Not really, no." But, of course they still haven't updated my status page since September.

AMCAS trafficking rules state that all medical schools must offer acceptances to the seats they expect to fill by Mar. 20

Got the update today. Finally.
 
Called today to see if they recieved my waitlist confirmation. They hadn't, probably didn't print it yet.

I thought for sure my pseudo-rejection would be waiting for me in the mail today. Why is it taking so long for my letter to travel the 40 miles to my house. Boo.

i was wondering, does anyone know if UCLA over accepts students? For example, most schools it seems will accept like 200 or so for a class of 140 intially knowing that people will withdraw. Therefore 60 people would have to withdraw before the WL even moves 1 spot. Other schools accept only their class size and take people off the WL as they withdraw.

I ask mainly because may 15th is coming and im praying i come off the WL. I assume UCLA doesnt do the over accepting based on projections just due to the fact that apparently the WL movement is good here? I need to fast forward like 2 months lol im getting anxious waiting to see if im going here or sacramento:(

i don't think they overaccept because a lot of people have said they have gone through the whole waitlist some years? i've found that ucla has the least amount of information regarding waitlist movement of any other school i've applied to
