Any word from 🦬?
Waiting patiently! I tried calling and there was no voicemail set up. Sent an email and the program administrator is “temporarily out of office” with no return date specified.

I think they are killing all of us inside 😂 Just tell us if they have sent out invites or not. I don’t know how much longer I can wait 🫣
Heard from someone I interviewed with who goes to Buffalo for dental school that the program director recently changed and she's still getting the hang of things - that's why they haven't sent anything out yet. hope this helps!

How are you guys going about sending thank you emails (especially if it was a panel of faculty who interviewed you)?

Do you just send one to the program director, residents, or you just send thank you emails to programs you are really interested in?

Does anyone have contact information for the new Buffalo director? Is the new director Dr. Thompson, or is their website not updated yet?

Hawaii invite to interview on Tuesday December 20th with social on the 18th. Invite via email.

Just got an update from Buffalo. Interviews will be sent out next week. Not sure if this went out to everyone who applied, but the email sounds like it was. It says interviews will be Dec 3, 8, and 10.

Hi everyone, current peds resident here. Hope interviews are going smoothly! Just wanted to pop in and offer some advice and tips I wish someone told me when I was interviewing. I remember all the stress and anxiety of application/interview season like yesterday so hopefully this helps someone out!

First and foremost, for those who want to familiarize themselves with certain topics in pediatric dentistry, I recommend glancing over the guidelines in the AAPD Reference Manual for up to date information. As a resident, I’m constantly referring to the manual to double check the AAPD’s recommendations on various topics like trauma, pulp therapy, fluoride, pathology, etc. Please don't worry about studying the reference manual but use it more as a resource to review over topics you might be unsure about.

Another helpful but greatly under-appreciated resource is reaching out and talking to current/recently graduated residents. They are the “experts” of the program. Past residents from many years ago may have had different attendings, program directors, facilities, staff, funding, etc so their residency experience might not necessarily correlate to the current state of the program.

There are also some helpful accounts on social media. @smallteethbigworld and @dr.jenvillalta are some pages I personally followed on IG and found helpful when I applied. I also started my own IG page (@dr.richieee) during residency with the goal of providing information I wish I had access to when I was applying. I applied during the "COVID era" when the majority of interviews were virtual so trying to get pertinent information to help narrow down my rank list was pretty difficult. I have a series called “inside scoop to pediatric dental residencies” where I have interviewed 40+ current and recently graduated residents from various programs across the country to talk about their residency experience. I have some other posts with info regarding interview tips, common interview questions, how to choose a program, things to avoid during interviews, etc. I apologize for the shameless plug 😅 but I figured y'all would be the most targeted audience for the content.

Another helpful tip is to record yourself on zoom when you practice your interview questions or have a mock interview with a friend/mentor. Interviewing definitely did not come easy to me but it's a skill you can become better at with lots of practice. I'm sure you all practiced your class 2 preps many times in sim lab before your practical so treat your interview the same way! You might surprise yourself with all the “likes” and “umms” you say subconsciously. It’s also a good way to check if you stay on topic when you answer the prompts and to get feedback.

Lastly, interviewers may ask you to discuss recent developments in pediatric dentistry so I highly recommend reading newly published articles in pediatric dentistry and to have 1-2 articles at ready for you to talk about.

Hope this helps, I’m always a DM away. Happy holidays everyone!

Thank you for the post. Could you please guide me international applicant form non acredited dental schools to apply for PEDS residency. Which dental school will prefer international students.

Any word on if OHSU has already sent out interview invites? Was going to call, but just don’t want to be that person.

Hi everyone. It’s my first time in match, so I wanted to know if you were not called for any interview. What should you do in the website? Do you have to withdraw from match?

You do not have to take any action. No withdrawal. I would wait for the post-match opportunities. Best of luck!

In medical residency application/interview they recently establish “signaling” system when programs and applicants can signal their top choice. I’m wondering if any of you got signaling during interviews or post interview emails that program will rank you high? I have a friend who applied to GPR and 2 programs were very straight and clear by saying they were interested In him and will rank him high. Peds can be very deferent. If you experienced any signaling during interview or got email after .. please share it here

Super last minute but can anyone speak on UCLA or Langone San Diego?

Can people chill for a second? Our Match Day is in a few days and we need the group clear for this. I understand the anxiety for next year applicants but give us some space to work and we will answer your questions after that

I added my match number sometime later in the cycle (updated on PASS just a few dats before my interviews) and I'm now freaking out that programs didn't get my match number to rank me😬 has this happened to anyone where the programs didn't get their match number and didn't rank them? (Anxiety is killing me as you all can see😅)

Should we worry if the program is "Initially accredited"? Denver Children and Children Healthcare Atlanta are both excellent hospitals, but they are both pretty new... Is anyone kinda thinking about this when you rank these programs?

Email them now. Ask them directly if they were able to find you on Match. Do it now before it closes they might be able to edit it still

Am I the only one who can’t decide what program to rank #1?

I can SAFELY say you are not alone :/ what's worse is the programs I flip-flop between are very different. One is totally hospital based the other is hybrid. Both are good programs, pay well, and are in big cities, but they're on opposite coasts!

Same. The hours are ticking away and I'm still here trying to figure out what the heck to do. It's such a great thing to have options, but ugh this is so hard!
