Med school lesson 1 regarding attendance:
1 required = there might be a consequence if you don't go
2 encouraged= only if there is free food.
3 optional= no

I'm actually not sure if could have been said any better than that.

Am I the only non-M4 who's not really stressed out? Holy cow people.

Snow is no big deal.

You have a crapload of free time. In fact, I would go days on end without studying. I turned out fine.

Like Splat said, don't worry about it.

This would also drive me just as nuts as listening to lectures at >normal speed (even the devo professor).

The only class I intentionally ditched regularly was MIM. I occasionally would have to miss for various acceptable reasons, ok, fine I could stand to listen to the lectures online -- maybe 2 lectures on a day I missed. Every time (literally) I intentionally ditched a class I normally attended (like for snowboarding), something went wrong with the recording system, so I missed a lecture. Usually one I was really confused about.

So if you're a compulsive class goer. I'd say don't ditch class, if only for your sanity. Many times I wished I had ditched, but then I didn't have to listen to it later.

My mileage DID vary. I studied seven days a week almost every week (except the 6-8 days after an exam block, when there's not really anything to study anyways). I won't lie though - sometimes I studied just so I wouldn't feel guilty about not studying.

there's too many to count, and we usually hand/sell them down to people in the class directly under us. you will get your chance and perhaps some stuff from your M2 big sib, but what I recommend doing is waiting until 1st year starts, then exploring your options for board prep books. check some out in the library, swing into the bookstore, or see what they have in the Academic affairs office (large library of free books to check out!) You will find some are really awesome and some suck, while others just don't fit your learning style.

patience is key, take your time. you probably shouldn't try to douse yoruself in tons of review books, or you'll OD on material. don't rush or you'll get cramps. or bloody diarrhea.

In order to try to prove that the AC electrical current was a more efficient means of executing prisoners, Thomas Edison executed a circus elephant that was acting up.

The Edison General Electric Company utilized the DC type, and he did not want his "product" associated with the same type of electricity that killed people. So he actively campaigned for the use of AC in executions by publicly performing many electrocutions of animals.

Attention: The real orientation occurs at the crap-tastic Chancery on state street on Friday of orientation week. Here, the 2nd and 3rd year guys will match up with the new 1st year girls and commence relationshipping that will continue until the following summer. Around finals time, the relationships will dissolve and everyone will act shocked.

Side note: Fiesta Geribaldi (on blue mound and fittieth street-ish) has 2 for 1 mah-gah-ritos on mondays.

Man, this summer is going FAST. It's already time for you guys to start showing up. I still remember when I first moved here....................*insert old man story*

hello everyone,

does anyone here live at the Arvada Place Condos on Bluemound Rd? I was pretty much set to move in but I read some negetive reviews at apartmentratings.com and was having second thoughts.

I know its kinda late to have second thoughts, but better now than after I've moved in.

If anyone has any impressions of the place that would be great

thanks in advance

*insert old man story*

I'd be happy to.

Little known fact: Splat is actually a 79 year-old man with alcoholic cirrhosis who fought in the Korean War and now enjoys watching Murder She Wrote alone in his home with a cool can of PBR and his favorite little blue pills on his La-Z-Boy.

I just got visited by the CUTEST little elf here in the ER!!!! And on my last day, too! What a treat!

There are some people in our class that live there. I didnt hear anything bad about the apts from them. Not that i asked though. Just remember that the review are usually slanted towards the negative

a good friend of mine lives at Arvada. decent, newer building. i've heard complaints from her about maintenance - i.e. if you need something fixed, it takes a lot of mentioning and a while before anything gets done about it. however, i heard those complaints from her 2 years ago when the building was still apartments. not sure how the condo conversion has affected that. don't recall hearing any other bad things from her.

and like pratik said, people tend not to write a review unless they have something bad to say. so while all those things may be true, still take it was a grain of salt.

Thanks for the responses guys, That def took away some of the anxiety I was feeling.

my attending had to switch days, and I'm assigned to specific doctors, not shifts. i'm actually really sad it's over. EM is what I want to do, and now that I got a taste of it and started to feel comfortable there, I'm really not looking forward to doing anything else.

at least my dream of seeing Prowler came true.

sadly, every time an ambulance rolled in I got a little sad inside, because I still know where I want to be. So thanks a lot, Prowler.

Dr. M-L sure sounded like she knew what she was talking about when she was talking about those viruses. Her husband was my clinical continuum mentor, and he had pictures of her in his office (geriatrics), so I stopped to talk to her when I saw her interviewing applicants.

So once you guys are done/almost done with your first month, anybody have any good stories to share? Do you feel like you've actually learned a lot? I'm sure you realize how much more you have to learn!

glorified triage nurse!!!

Can you go into EM and only do trauma work? I wanna be a shi+-hits-the-fan specialist.

With EM comes the good and the bad. From runny noses and sniffles to GSW's. But the thing here is that the ER doc's (even at a Level 1 trauma center) only stabilize the patients, and then they're shipped off to the surgeons for management. This can be good and bad, depending on how you take it. Good in that you get to help manage these patients early in the course of care (and thus get to do some of the fun stuff), but bad in that you really aren't the definitive word on management (and a lot more of the fun stuff happens in the OR).

If you really want to be that type of specialist, then trauma/critical care may be for you.

Like I said, depending on how you look at it.

This thread is getting close to 1,000 posts. At 1,000 I will close the thread. If one of you wants to start a MCW Part 3, do so now and I will close this one.

Part 2 before orientation even starts. Yet another quality hi-jacking job by the Class of 2009 (and our good friends in 2010). Well done, gang!

What, no credit goes to me or Don?

SCREW YOU, STRINGBEAN!

*leaves in a huff, slamming doors behind her*

nerd.

booooooooooooooooooooooooooooo!

The latest SDN server doesn't like threads larger than 1,000 posts. That's why we close at or near 1,000. I am closing now since you are close enough and you have a new thread (Part 3) for your class.
