Krieger Eye Institute in Baltimore today via email. Their interview dates are 12/15 and 12/16.

This is the new program in Baltimore....therefore no senior residents. I wonder how that would affect the quality of training, not to mention the workload...would be interesting to find out

Not true. You will be supervised by Wilmer residents when you are a 1st year. Wilmer residents will stop going to Sinai in 2007, so as a 2nd year Sinai residents you will be supervising Sinai 1st year residents beginning 2008.
It'll be great as 3rd years because you won't have those pesky Wilmer residents competing with you for cataract surgery :).

Seriously, I truly believe this is going to be an outstanding program. Most senior faculty are Wilmer graduates and because program is so small you will have plenty of 1-on-1 teaching, supervision, etc. (do not underestimate the importance of that, TRUST ME!). All the faculty are SUPER NICE to the residents and are willing to teach and resolve issues.

Give this program serious consideration if you want strong clinical training, closeness of Wilmer research facilities, ability to make connections with Wilmer faculty and all without in-house call :)

See you at the interviews!

Sure! Though I should probably first state that it's my home institution, which might ease people's minds a bit. I have honors in surgery, medicine, and OB/GYN from 3rd year. USMLE >250. AOA unknown yet (though I don't expect it since usually only students going into primary care are elected at my institution).

HEY CONGRATS :) !! I got waitlisted at NorthWestern today. Better than a Rejection. So thats my best news in weeks after my initial interview. GL to everyone !!

Oh man... I'm not complaining (really I'm not!) but what's the best way to choose among three programs that are great for different reasons?? These 3 programs all only have interviews on th same 2 days available so I have to let one go. One is a top 10 program (how can I turn down a top 10 program?!). Another is a middle tier California program (how can I turn down a California program?!). And the other is a solid program in my hometown (there's no place like home). I would love to match at any of the three. Flummoxed. Shocked. Excited. Yet very frustrated. I wish the answer were easier...

Loyola today by email....finally i got one. Batch 5.

They did not really give me a choice for dates. Has anyone scheduled their interview yet?

ML

Good luck to all. I've been waiting a long time to do this and it feels good.

Interviews:
Iowa
Madison
Michigan
U of Rochester
MCW
Virginia
Colorado
St louis
Cole
Case
UIC

No rejections

Just had a question. Programs list a date on the facesheet when you should expect a decision for interview by. If this date has come and gone should I interpret that as no interview or is the date more of a general idea of when they will get back. For example Iowa wrote 10/19 haven't heard anything one way or another. Thanks for the input.

From what I understand they are a pretty good program. I think they ranked pretty high (#5?) in 2002.

I wasn't aware that ophtho residency programs are "ranked." Can anyone tell me more about this?

There are rankings for everything. The ones I see most often quoted for ophtho are from the Ophthalmology Times. I personally think they mean little, but I'm sure others out there are more ranking-conscious.

Hey, what do you know. I still have SDN on my internet favorites....even though this painful process you all are in is now (thankfully) in my past. I had flashbacks today as the program had it's first interview session. Checking your email q10 minutes. Racing home to check the mail/phone messages. Checking SDN q15 minutes. Thinking all the while...."Internal medicine DOES have a nice ring to it."

Try not to worry so much. It'll all work out in the end! Enjoy your free lunches.....paid for by thousands of dollars in airline tickets, hotel rooms, fast food & car rentals! There are no free meals!!

limbass, congrats on all those interviews, if u dont mind me asking, what batch were you in, and board scores? good luck to all!

I'm already having to cancel some of my handful of interviews due to scheduling conflicts. This is getting frusterating. For example: Northwestern, UC Davis, and Iowa offer the same 2 dates*...

Does anyone have any suggestions or ever hear of schools opening up alternate dates or squeezing in extra people on a particular date?

BTW: I've seen the terms "batch" and "tier" - what do these refer to?

*Iowa had a 3rd date, now filled up
