Congrats, lilybirscoe, Wisconsin's a great program! One thing I'm curious about with these last minute invites. People have mentioned this to me but if they're calling at the last minute to invite you to interview does that mean you're sort of an afterthought? I mean I'm assuming I would be coming off the waitlist and if I'm coming off the waitlist for the interviews would they really rank me that high? Or is it that if you get an interview everyone's on even ground again? I'm just curious because this is just what I've heard...haven't been lucky enough to get any last minute interview offers though...thoughts anyone?

It seems like the only way you can know you're NOT going to get an invite is if you are told so. For instance, I thought UW-Madison was done with their invites and then I got called two days ago to see if I could interview there Nov. 4th.

I also heard that the special programs at UCLA and MEEI no longer exist... I'm sure it's true of at least one of those, but not positive which one or if it's true of both. Anyone else have a better idea?

I'm pretty sure UCLA EyeStar still exists as I met someone who is going for an interview.

Also, UPenn was by phone.

Just something I observed... sometimes people are hearing back from programs in different ways. For example, I got the invitation for UMKC via snail mail. Interesting...

I would not worry about the fact that you are coming off a waitlist to be interviewed. Often programs don't interview people whom they think would be great simply because they don't think it's likely that the applicant will come to their program anyway. One of the most common questions I got last year was, "Why would you want to come here for your residency?" (or some derivative). Know details about a program, the town, opportunities, and especially anything that makes the program unique so you are prepared to answer that question convincingly. Remember, once you interview at a program, you will be ranked (with a few rare exceptions), and could potentially match there.

Also, you should cancel any interviews you can't make as early as possible so there is time for another applicant to be invited.

I've decided to rate programs based only on the lunch that's provided. It's going to be hard to top Baylor (mmm...steak).

hello everybody,
i just discovered this awesome forum, thanks to an interviewee I met last week. anyways, I thought i'd just ask...does anyone have a scheie eye institute interview on december 6th, that they, by any chance, wouldn't mind switching for december 9th (the day i have it scheduled?).

I suspect that there probably was a mass e-mail since the "to" line is blank and the e-mail is not personally addressed. I don't know whether this means that they are done sending invitations, though.
