got an interview to San Antonio today. finally a program with a LOT of flexibility with interview dates (basically any mon/friday for 2 months)

They filled all their clinical spots and only have 1 research spot available through the match...kind of weak if you ask me. If I would have known that I wouldn't have applied. :thumbdown:

I just joined bc it's been really dry for me... looking to see what everyone else thinks. I've gotten 4 interviews.. but just hearing the sound of crickets from many programs, including a few that have already handed out interviews and rejections. Could this mean I'm on a hold list, they're still considering me, or they're just rolling through applications?

didn't apply to stanford and no word from UCD or USC....where did you get that info that U New Mexico is not going to be in the match? It doesn't say anywhere in their website and SEC got an interview there (assuming he's an outside applicant)

that's so wrong.....
 
So I have a friend who is a first year GI fellow, and she told me the same thing about New Mexico.... after her interview, they called and offered her the spot outside of the match. I thought it was because she was a former student. Apparently, thats how they do it.
 
Not unbelievable, just history repeating itself. It is to the advantage of the individual program because they place their top candidates in the position of having to decide whether to go there without knowing all their options. This is referred to as an "exploding offer" (as in, this message will self-destruct in...).

The match collapsed previously because so many programs started doing this.

The match only came back a few years ago. If more programs continue this behavior, it will fail again.
 
Got my first interview at West Virginia University, after around 20 or so rejections so far. Had to schedule it this month end. Does anyone have any info on the program - No. of spots, Research Vs clinical. Their website and Freida doesnt provide much info. Greatly appreciate any info.

I have the interview there in the 2nd week of feb. If you can post your interview experience then it would be helpful for other members. That way members can be more prepared for the interview. :)
 
With the interview season starting up should we be starting a new thread with Interview experiences and a summary of the program that we interview in?

Finally after a long period of silence, got one from LSU shreveport. But no information abt Gi program on the website. Anyone has any idea abt the program?? from FReida,I know they have 2 spots. and last year they interviewed 6 candidates?? That to me seems a typo in freida.

Good idea, but personally, I would prefer everything related to GI fellowship to be on this same thread...that wd make it easier for all of us to track all progress. Lets take a few votes on this.

i applied to 144 programs too, have got 12-13 rej and 4 iv. I think AMGs got their interviews pretty early. For IMGs, season is starting kind of now.

I applied to 90 programs. So far 8 rej; 3 iv and 2 rev applications. I am an IMG.

Hello, I am AMG graduate. So far I only have 1 interview, 5 rejections, and 36 total applications. We are all sweating a little a this point in the game. I am hoping for more interviews in the next couple of weeks. Good luck to all:)

IMG here. Applied to 97 programs on december 15th, 11 rejections so far. 2 review applications.
Resident at a decent community program, some clinical research, 12 national presentations, 9 publications as abstracts in supplements, one publication as manuscript. Is it already too late for an interview for IMG, can IMG still expect an interview.

Got 4 indexed publications, Book chapters, 14 abstracts (oral and posters), Grants in preparation and yes average high 90s in the boards. The reason I am telling you this is that this is my third attempt for GI, but hopefully will be my last. I applied to 90 programs and got 4 interviews so far. I believe the prgrams are going for AMGs from top residency programs now. I have still yet to find an explanation to why PDs donot see the strength in the application anymore.

GastroHope. I understand your frustration. I am am IMG too. However, I think their policy is to take AMG first, otherwise nobody is going to do med school in USA anymore if they can not find the job and have a lot of loan after graduation.
 
Hi, does anybody have any idea about yale, new haven gi program? do they give h1b visa? any interview impressions?i have my iv in a week and am getting a little stressed out. thanks!
