This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Hi everyone,
I was wondering if anyone can assist me in locating the site to the interview feedback for UHH COP. I went to the website and was able to locate the UHH School of Medicine but not Pharmacy.
I have an interview in February. Does anyone else have an interview in Feb?:)

When are everyone's remaining interviews, times and locations? I have mine on Wed., Feb 17th in Vegas. I am flying directly from visiting my bro's family in Seattle (and winter olympics in Vancouver) to Vegas on the 16th, staying at Terrible's Casino and the interview and flying back to Utah the next day. It's gonna be a blast!

You should eat the steak and eggs at Terrible's. They have happy hour or something like that at midnight till 4am. Don't quote me on the time but I know it's pretty cheap towards the end of the night. Good luck on your interview!

thanks for the words of encouragement. I'm trying to stay optimistic! I just keep thinking about my interview and I "thought" it went well.... Like you said, hopefully seats will open up and I'll be one of the lucky ones!

I'm with you Dreamer. It's good to stay positive. Hopefully I will meet you in the Fall.

Kern - Don't get too excited if you are looking on craigslist. Most places on the island are fairly run down and there are very few truly "amazing" spots by mainland standards.

thanks busygirl, i'll keep that in mind. :)

Whoa...I drop off for a few days and when I check back I found our thread buried on the 4th page! I've been busy looking for work (which is a full time job these days) and think I finally found one...if all works out I'll be working on a cruise ship for 3 months. Since there aren't many employment opportunities in Hilo, I figured I'd better make as much $$$ as I can before I relocate.:D

Anyway, this should be an exciting month for many of you...the ones who are interviewing and those of you on the waiting list. Hope many of you get some good news and please be sure to report it here!

Forrest, working on a cruise ship sounds like a great experience. Hope you get it.

February is passing by slower than I thought it would and I can't wait until they start pulling people off the waitlist. Since I'm only on the waitlist, should I wait to do all the financial aid forms until I'm accepted?

Might as well, even though its not very time consuming. Just based on past trends, I would say you have a very good chance of being offered admission off the waitlist. The problem is just waiting for that day to arrive. It wouldn't be uncommon at all to not get that offer for 5 more months either...

So is Hawaii done giving out acceptances and just waitling people? I just got a request for an interview but wasnt sure if I should put money down on a flight to Las Vegas if I could be waitlisted behind people who interviewed in early december. Also any students have any insights on the curriculum and how it affects your free time? I just got done interviewing at Palm Beach Atlantic and the students there said they had more free time as a pharmacy student than as an undergrad, which seemed strange to me.

Im a PharmD student at Hilo... The curriculum here is good, and Im glad I decided on Hilo. I especially like the fact that you are exposed to practical work (hospital and retail) throughout the 4 years, and not just in the P4 year. And as for free time, it depends on you. Im not sure of your background, so its hard to say how much youll need to study. There is free time though. AS for the interview, UH Hilo has been wait listing since Oct. According to our admissions people, there has been many strong applicants so they want to talk to as many as possible before they decide.

Thanks a bunch Pachi, you really cleared up my worries, its good to know that its better to take the interview.

Hi guys! I thought I'd join in on the discussion too. I'm from CA. Yay for another mainlander , with family ties to Hawai'i lol. This is my second time applying to UH, Pharm School. Last year I applied late, but had the opportunity to do a phone interview for the alternate list. This year, I was more fortunate to be granted an 'in-person' interview with Dr. Forrest Batz, really nice guy I thought hehe. I was a bit timid in person because I was expecting it to be super tough like University of Charleston, but this was quite relaxing on the contrary. As of today, I found out I also have been put on the waitlist. Kind of nervous to see how this plays out this time. I was told by Liz my first interview was really good and she thought I'd nail it this time... :xf:

Nice to see we're all in the same boat ya?

Hello everyone! I'm new to this so I don't really know what I am doing... Does anyone know if there is a specific site anywhere (whether it be on sdn or on facebook or something) for UH Hilo's class of 2014?

Im a P1 at UH Hilo, and I love the curriculum.

Hi Pachi,

My PCAT scores got delayed for PharmCAS and UH Hilo barely got it two days ago. Just from reading this thread, it seems like UH has already finished the interviewing cycle for acceptance? What are my chances of getting an interview because UH is on a rolling admission cycle? Any heads up would be great. Thanks.

So I emailed Liz last Friday about my application and she hasn't gotten back to me yet.... how long did it take her to respond to those of you who contacted her? Anyone get accepted from the waitlist yet?? i'm impatient!!! =)

Hmm..last Friday? I emailed her about a pre-req question and it was forwarded to one of the counselors who responded the following day. Let us know what happens.

I don't think anyone's been pulled from the waitlist yet...hopefully we'll hear something soon but probably not until after the Feb interviews.

Im going for an interview next week in Vegas what can I expect?

thanks

I interview this Wednesday. Am I wasting my time flying all the way to vegas or is their any chance to still get in??

Of course there's still a chance, they gave you an interview because they felt you were qualified based on what information they have on you so far. Nail the interview and you will be in good shape.

Thanks Dreamer - I did get the job and I leave for orientation & training on March 2. I will likely be gone for 12 weeks so I'll check in here whenever I have an opportunity...I miss the boards but I've had so little time and I'm finishing up my last prereq class.

unfortunately i caught the flu and on top of that the east coast had a snow storm so I wasn't able to make it:(

Oh that is sad! Is there any chance you can make up the interview another day or is it pretty much done?

I think pretty much done... best of luck guys and gals hope you make it...

I also had my interview yesterday (wednesday)! As far as mine went, it went very very well! I am hoping for some good news on March 4th :xf:

Glad to hear it - keep us posted!:D

That's too bad....where are you looking to now?

I had my interview today, for some reason I perceived it as an interrogation than a relaxing interview...

But anyways, it's finally over, now for the hard part, waiting.

UHH was my most laid back interview and by a lot...guess it depends on the person and who your interviewer is though.

Interesting, like others UHH was my most relaxing interview. I just sat on the sofa and my interviewer (Carolyn) just sat in another comfy chair and we just chatted for awhile. It seemed she was just asking the questions like they were an annoyance and mandatory and then we just talked about important aspects of the school, etc..it really seemed more of a conversation for most of it.

good luck to those that interviewed this week!!! :D :luck:

I should have asked this during the interview Q&A but what is the timeline that we should expect to hear back for those that interviewed this week? and does anyone know when the final interview date is?

Dtran01 - there is not a real way to tell when you should expect to hear back from UHH. I heard back on the monday after I interviewed (my day was on a friday). The average time has been a couple of weeks, but the admissions office tells me they have alot of good applicants this year, and they are reviewing each applicant carefully, so it could likely be longer. Good luck :)

Carolyn, as in Carolyn Ma? She is a big wig at UHH, and nationally in the Pharmacy field. She is intimidating, but by far my fav professor here at UHH.

Yep, that's her! That's interesting, if I had known she was a "big wig" at the school, I might have been a little more nervous! haha, no it went well and it was overall a good atmosphere and experience.

I had her as well.

When I asked about herbal remedies and so forth, I never knew she actually TAUGHT that, but she knew her stuff.

Just got my interview last Friday in Vegas. I was the first interview for the day. Did everybody get a folder with pamphlets, vacation info. and school map? I got interviewed by Dr. Fisher. He was really cool; at the end he gave me the folder? and the essay part.
