so just to clear up something on match....

I know its very unlikely to match after say your 4th choice or something like that. But lets say for whatever reason you interview at ten places and your top 9 choices are filled , but your tenth choice on your rank list ranked you their number 1 or 2 person----- would you still match or at some point does match favor an applicant that ranked that program higher than you did even though the program ranked you higher??

not sure if what i just asked makes any sense, but just trying to see why it is so rare to match far down your rank list considering there are only 200 spots for 400 people and if tons of people go to up to 10 or more places i would think some people match quite far down their list, but apparently this does not happen or am i wrong?

please fill me in , thanks.

To answer your question regarding whether you'd match that "9th" program if they ranked you 1 or 2: Yes, you would still match there. Your spot as number 1 or 2 does not go away until YOU match somewhere else higher on your list.

To address your second question as to why it's so rare that anyone matches low on their rank list, the answer is pretty simple. When you go on your interviews, you'll probably notice a lot of familiar faces. Essentially, a lot of these programs are interviewing the same people, so many people "competing" for your spots get snatched up when the computer system goes to work matching everyone, and depleted from your competition as the system sorts it all out. (I'm not gonna go into the details, just trust it).

That being said, it's not at all out of the ordinary to match low on your rank list despite the statistics. I have 2 friends that matched their #7 and #8 choices. It happens.

Simple things to remember: 1) Rank ONLY PROGRAMS YOU ARE WILLING TO GO TO. If you're not willing to go there, don't rank it, cuz you just might match there. 2) Rank in the order you want to go, NOT WHERE YOU THINK YOU'LL GET IN. They're all telling the truth when they tell you that. It only works in your favor. If your #10 preference is a lock, leave it as your #10 choice if that's your preference. That spot will always be there if you don't match your top 9.

And I'm spent...:sleep::cool:

As far as I know what you say is correct. If a school ranks you high enough to get in it does not matter if they are your tenth choice. At least I hope that is how it works cause if not this whole process just got a whole lot more stressful.

Again though, everything I have ever heard anyone say is that as long as you are ranked high enough by one program that you interview at, it does not matter how low you have ranked them, you would still match.

This is how I understand it.

does anyone know if there are figures out there breaking down the percentage of people that matched based on how many interviews they had.

i.e percentage of people that only went on 1 interview that found a match .

vs. the percentage of people that went on 10 interviews how many of those people matched.

is there anything like that out there?

I cant imagine how horrible it must feel if you go on say 10 and don't match. Especially with all the money and time you spend going on these interviews.

i got jacobi by email a few days ago for the 4th or 18th with dinner the night before.

For those of you that have heard of people not matching with like 10 or so interviews , did you find those people were mostly brains with no personality or like not as committed to OS or anything like that?

If the magic number is around 7 , what percentage of people that get that or more interviews that dont match. Im starting to get kinda worried i have gotten my fair share but i applied to alot as well and now I feel like I will be worse off if i dont match with a bunch of interviews that I would have been had I only gotten like 4 or 5. IDK its just the chicken little at work inside of me with all the what if's. I think mainly with me its that my numbers are probably nowhere near alot of applicants so I rely mostly on the interview and extra-c's to show my worth.

My only hope is that most programs after you get an interview dont really weigh scores and gpa very heavily when comparing applicants. If they still use the numbers as a large portion of how they rank I should probably be worried.

Hey man don't worry. You are far good with atleast 4 or 5 interviews. You want attend all the interviews where you applied. I feel that even if you get one interview and if you match there that should be ok for you.Statistics are always there but play your part well and you wil see yourself in the program.

Hello,

For ppl with Jacobi interviews, are you guys able to select Jacobi under the "medical school" section in AMCAS? I just can't seem to find the school of the list given (I tried using New York state filter, etc.) Can anybody chime in?

that amcas application is horrible,

The part where they want you to manually enter all of your undergrad and dental classes by class code etc its just rediculous, I might not even complete this application due to how late in the game it is, its like redo-ing the pass application and then you have to ask the people that wrote your letters to resubmit them.

I dont think there is enough time before the december4th interview to get all that stuff done????

I just dont get the point, why the med school cant just get a copy of the pass application forwarded to them.

also do we know what the number of "qualified applicants is this year for number of spots?

I'm not sure if it changes ever, ?

Does any one have any info on Denver health and Detroit medical center.
thx

-if you use NY state filter, select Albert Einstein School of Medicine

Man this is ******ed. Just doesn't work for me... err. Albert Einstein college just doesn't show up on the list.

Do you guys think that the interview invitations are done. There are still a few that are not on the list but I have a feeling it's finished now. What do you think?

Anyone heard from brooklyn, harlem, or caritas in NY?

Does anyone have any information that they're willing to share about West Virginia University OMFS Program...regarding scope, residents, attendings, call schedule, presence at the medical center etc, interview dates....
thanks

WVU only interviews people who have done a 1 year OMFS internship or a GPR. They interviewed 11/30 and second day 12/4

and wish you number one choice comes up for you on Jan. 25th.

Have you all made you mind on the list?

I have not

Rank order list due TODAY!? Ahhhhh. The agony of the wait. Good luck people, and may your nights be filled with nightmares and terror of intern year.
