I spoke with Duke and UMich, and they are both still in the process of reviewing some applications and inviting applicants as the PD makes decisions. Hang in there!

Got a call from Beaumont - my mail was undeliverable and returned to them - :smuggrin:freakin post office had a temp who f@#ked up:mad: - but I still got an interview date - Dec. 1st

congrats!!
i must say i'm quite jealous
the only email i got today was a polite "dear applicant" rejection letter from ky
sigh..... time for a glass of wine

Pour me one of those... My email inbox looks a lot like yours today, ophthogirl.

Cheers.... here's to NOT interviewing in KY.
Funny how random all of this is - I'd thought this was one of my back-up programs (since i don't know anyone near ky and don't known much about the program!) but hey.... one less interview to plan for.

don't lose hope guys, give it some more time... and congrats to all those who got invites today!

emory told me essentially the same thing (they are still reviewing applications). i called because i was nervous too :)

most, if not all residents tell me that they got interview invites well into november. people tend to accept everything and then later start canceling as they realize they can't/don't want to go on a billion interviews...thus, parting the red sea for us normal people.

Hi all,

I have: Henry ford 11/19
I want: Henry ford 12/17

PM me if interested.

take care!

ps. I agree with the above that as long as we hang in, it will be fine. That's the hope at least :)

yay...finally something.. iwas beginning to think my application was accidently kicked under the desk and forgotten at all the programs...

scheie nov 19, 27, dec 3 dates offerred via phone call

Cook County / Stroger via email

anyone have any info on this program? i'm assuming that it's pathology heavy but lacking in the departments of teaching and street cred/getting fellowships?

Got an email from OHSU today. They have filled 12/8, so they're only offering 11/17 now.

Does anyone know anything about Brown? Any info would be greatly appreciated!

not sure if this one's been added...

UC Irvine (email)
Nov 30, Dec 7 (1/2 day sessions)

Do any of you guys know anything about Case Western's residency program. I'm not from the Midwest, so no one I'm talking to knows much about it. Any input would be helpful. Thanks - and good luck to everyone!

Does anyone know anything about Brown? Any info would be greatly appreciated!

there's 2 spots per year
the faculty are nice, knowledgeable and approachable
the residents run the general clinic on their own - they only consult the attending if needed (specialty clinic they almost always present to the attending)
strong clinical training, not as much research but they send most of their residents on to fellowships
surgery numbers are good - do small procedures as pgy2, most or time is pgy4 - most residents leave having done 2-3 pk's on their own (something i'm told is rather unique)
there's some sort of lecture or review most mornings (not on weekends) clinic is 9-5ish
journal club monthly

what else - providence is a fun town

the hospital is nice and big and they have an au bon pain

random i know
sorry hope this helps
good luck!

Hi guys,
I don't think it has been posted yet...adding University of Cincinnati via snail mail
Dates Nov 30th, Dec 4th and Dec 6th.

Anyone know when Doheny is interviewing?

Running clinic on your own is not a good thing.

Doing 2 PKPs "on your own" will not prepare you to do them in practice.

i think this is in reference to the info i put up about brown
i think you may have misunderstood some of what i meant, or i may have not expressed what i'm thinking in my head
what i meant about clinic is that i felt that they had a lot of autonomy with their general patients. the patients they know well who are fairly straight-forward do not need to be presented to the attending. i am under the impression that not all programs are like this and have residents present every patient to an attending no matter what (which can be tedious and annoying). i did not feel that the residents were floundering or providing poor patient care, it was more just knowing what you can handle on your own and knowing when to get advice (obviously no one knows in the beginning but you learn).
and as for the pkp's i meant this sort of as an experience. i get the impression that in programs with a lot of fellows its possible that you could come out having not done any on your own. obviously if you wanted to make a practice out of doing corneal transplants you'd want more experience - ie a fellowship.

anyway, my comments are really just what i thought of the program.
i am in no way the end all be all of the brown ophthalmology department.
take what you want from it.

cheers
have a great day

Thank you for taking the time to answer my question, it was really very helpful. Good luck to you!

I think both of you are right. Having autonomy is great. As a med student I didn't realize how important this was until I became a resident. On the other hand having too much of it is a bad thing. There's a fine line between having lots of autonomy and feeling like you're stranded without being provided the proper guidance. The latter is like being thrown into the ocean with no lifeguard around.
