apj2010,
I doubt the committee was reformed due to bad judgement. It might not have been reformed. Dr. M just made it sound like it was. Who knows. All that matters is that your in!!
Soca,
I have also looked into the NHSC scholarship. My understanding is yes that it is very competitive but not biased towards MS2-4. They will pay for four years of school (including books, tuition, supplies, + stipend). I read somewhere, and I believe it was on this site, that the government wants to generate a large carve out that is dedicated to MD/DO students instead of just a health professions carving which is eligible to all in health professions from dentists to nurses. If you look on their website and look at openeings for NHS Scholars they will give all the possible sites to work. I pulled a few up and they stated on one that salary was nationally competitive. Problem is they just can't draw people tosome areas. I even saw a couple of openings to work int the Baltimore, MD area. Only catch is you have to due primary care (family med, ob/gyn, internal med) and changing your mind will cost you a lot of money (up to 3X cost + interest).
Also, I am not sure where you are from but if you live in a some what rural place or live close to a rural place you can try contacting a local Hospital Service Administrator and they will help pay (some to all in certain cases) for your education as long as you agree to serve the community for X number of yrs.
Also look at PHS. Not sure about their program. Just not to keen on having to go where they tell me to. I am not sure thats the case but I need to check. And if it is I might as well go join the military.
