My assumption of where the left is comes from what I see and hear. The NYT editorial page, the CNN opinion page, the Democratic debates...these sources show the heart of the left and it is angry and unapologetically willing to crush any and all dissent in their quest for their goals. Why do people need to be yelled at or bludgeoned, or harassed or excluded because they have a different opinion? Can I eat at the Red Hen if I vote Republican? Can I wear a MAGA hat in Berkely without getting assaulted? Can I talk freely without getting doxxed? This is happening. It isn't a Fox News boogey man striking fear. Its the actions of the left that are happening all too often.

There is an honest debate about illegal immigration and gender identification and the realities of what it means. The COST of illegal immigration is: schools, healthcare, etc. Those with no skills cannot support themselves without public assistance. How did the govt spending bill get passed a few months ago with a few billion going to border security if most Democrats support "open borders"? Somehow it passed the house. And it was a 70% MARGINAL tax rate on those making 10 million+ affecting the uber wealthy. This a position far to the left of the party but still a far cry from "90% tax rate" you claim with no context.

Ilhan Omar floated a resolution defending the RIGHT to boycott against Israel. This has to do with first amendment rights and the individual freedom to boycott, not a government boycott. State governments are passing resolutions requiring employees or contractors to sign a statement they DO NOT participate in a boycott of Israel, even on a personal level. Any criticisim of Israel is immediately jumped on as anti-semitic.

There was a process that you are glossing over. There was a House version that went to the Senate and died. The House Democrat version did not get past the Republican Senate. The Democrat House version had no new money for border officers, i.e. the people that monitor between checkpoints. There was no money for a border wall and it actually rescinded the same amount of money that DT was re-appropriating for barrier construction. There was extra money for detention and methods other than detention, i.e. catch-and-release methods with electronic monitoring.

This first passed the Democrat House. The Senate passed a different version that the House ultimately passed because some moderates caved, but those moderates first passed the original highly questionable bill.

So lets think about what would happen if the House version passed: No new money for a barrier or monitoring between the checkpoints, where quite a few illegals enter. We will house more illegals and release more illegals with the expectation they appear for their hearing, which we know a massive number do not. We also know that the various state and city governments do not cooperate with ICE or are outright hostile so its harder to deport illegals now.

Unlimited asylum, more housing, catch-and-release, ICE hostility is akin to an open door. This is what passed and its irrefutable. If you don't want to see the light at this point its because you don't want to.
