Dude Yosh,

QUITCHERBITCHIN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I agree with GDub. For "tough" NYer, you complain an awful lot Yosh. "It's hot here, I hate LA, etc....." Your stuff is safe, your plant is taken care of, I'd say you got it pretty good. No sympathy here.

I know the temp got up to 100 in Pomona.. and the same day I had gotten back from the hot and humid Houston weather! Anyway, don't complain about NYC too much. At least you have the shelter of the sweltering hot subways to keep you from the harmful UV rays I will be soaking in this summer. (weather channel says UV: 10 + extreme!)

Holt + Garey = 24 Hr. Jack-in-the-Box.

Oregon.. hmm.. makes me wonder. Are you still in town Adrian?

Sam.. you still around?

Lanny,

Oh, I'm still around. But by now you already know that I'm lurking around here and there.

There is just something welcoming abbout urine stained subways that make me feel like home...

I actually have the U.S. Open in my town...and it is crazy...nothing like being at the local watering hole for a brew...and having Tiger Woods next to you....all these damn famous people crowding up my town...

And the beach? They have these people parking at Jones Beach and then are shutteling them into the golf course....so much for parking there too...I figure..If I am unemployed..I might as well be tan..and look unemployed...

Things are going well here though..as much as I love to complain..I am happy to be home, with the aggressive and confrontational people...they are my people.

I am going to Niagra Falls next week...which should be cool...Canadian Beer has a higher
% alcohol..that makes the 8 hour drive worth it in itself..its all about the proper motivation....I am actually gonna see some college/fraternity bros that live up there..that can only spell one thing....T-R-O-U-B-L-E

What is everyone else doing?

Just wanted to say thanks to Sam who is holding down my stuff....like Noah and the ark...I will be back soon....but not too soon...

Talk ta ya all later....

You're welcome yosh.

I find it absolutely inspiring that after all your stony brook experiences and the festivities you've enjoyed upon your return to your beloved and temporarily golf-crazed city, you are still able to spell trouble correctly.

Did you ever know that you're my hero?

Oh wait, that isn't the Bette Midler song I'm supposed to know, but really, they are all terrible so does it really matter in the long run?

As long as you got "The Rose" down...that is all you need to worry about for now...TRUST ME!

We can do Bette for another bet....

Just wait till I get back there in Aug....

"Some say love.....it is a river..."

sorry to intrude on the diaglogue, but when do we start classes anyways.?

i think im becoming allergic to alcohol.

august 12 damn

Yeah, about that song........

Oddly, I find the words have difficulty sticking in my head... but that is maybe cause I can't tolerate listening to the song after the first 2 lines and turn it off.

For someone who has such a great knowledge of music, I would have thought you capable of picking a better song. But we all get suprised sometimes, don't we.

Sammy,
Now, Now Now....we all know my choice is music is CLEARLY 80's-esque...and The Rose wouldn't be my 1st choice....but then again..let's in the immortal 1st year phrase.."Look at the BIGGER picture"..

Sammy...in the sequins red dress...laying across a piano...with a long cigarette, singing.."PHYSICAL" by Olivia Newton John.....clearly no.....but The Rose....YES!!!

YES!!!!

It just fits better....in the future...there will be better songs....and THERE WILL BE MORE...
So learn the words for now...

Its like anatomy...Some Lovers Try Positions That They Can't Handle...(good old hand bones)..

You can do it...I know you can....

As I was sitting here, looking through random e-mail..I came across a joke...so I thought I would share it...

A quiet little man was brought before a judge. The judge looked down at the man and then at the charges and then down at the little man in
amazement.

"Can you tell me in your own words what happened?" he asked the man.

"I'm a mathematician dealing in the nature of proof."

"Yes, go on," said the astounded judge.

"Well, I was at the library and I found the books I wanted and went to take them out. They told me my library card had expired and I had
to get a new one. So I went to the registration office and got in another line. And filled out my forms for another card. And got back
in line for my card."

"And?" asked the judge.

"And he asked 'Can you prove you're from New York City?'

....So I stabbed him!"

Its great to be back home....

Yosh,

How you do get ahead of yourself......the bet in question has no stipulations of laying across a piano nor smoking a cigarette. But really, I suppose that is neither here nor there. However, to borrow another quote from the above referenced person, it could be "the difference that makes the difference, if you will...."

I'm sure there will be more bets in the future. I've actually missed some of the challenge....

"The difference that makes the difference"...oh..how I almost miss L.A.....

ALMOST.....

I went out to Long Beach last nite....its on the South Shore of the Island near Queens...all these bars on the water...and I looked at my watch at 3am...and bought a round of shots for the bar..know why???

JUST BECAUSE THE BAR WAS STILL OPEN.....no 1:30 last call...we closed the bar at 4am...and once again..I was like...DAMN...I DO love NY...

But I miss my L.A. friends too....who else would I constantly tell how much I love NY???

Ya know I miss you guys...

as for the piana and stoggies...just you wait...

I am sure I will learn a trick or two in my European travels....to add to my collection..so, I will nab those two missing pieces before you sing..my Minnesotan Bird...not to frett....

 :D  :p :D

I've been in and out after finally becoming an official MS-II. Drove back and forth from Santa Barbara the last week.. attended four graduations while I was there! (Three on Saturday and one on Sunday. Needless to say, I am quite bronzed from being out in the sun too long. Can we say.. xeroderm. pigmentosum?) Anyway, gotta catch up on errands and things then off to Vegas from Wed (June 19) thru Sat (June 22).. then showing some old college buddies around LA for the next few days. Maybe I should stop by and see how the new ISAC'ers are doing too. At any rate, I need to take a shower bigtime. Catch you folks later..

Good thing you told me not to fret Yosh, cause you know I just can't stop doing that....although maybe I should fret occasionally just so that I don't undergo shock when you come back to LA from the sudden emergence of fretting and drama.... I suppose I could hold off on that by just agitating the remaining sin wave enough to keep a sufficient dose of emotion in the vicinity, but I'll have to evaluate that idea further as I do enjoy my head at the present location attached to my neck. I'll keep you posted.

You KNOW you are more LABILE than you care to admit....Must we go there????

C'mon...its summer..lets keep things nice and plesant....

July 17th is just around the corner....

5150....ahh....Van Halen

As for playing nice, I always play nice. I just play to win. Even though I hit that rough streak a while back, I'll be back to my form soon enough.

As for my ability to be labile, it is a comparative scale, refer to your bell curve theory. So while I'm slightly more labile than I'd like to admit, I think I'm still sitting pretty well "comparatively" speaking.

As for July 17, I know to a good deal of certainty where'll I'll be. But if you are so certain to the contrary, put your "money" where your mouth is. :p If you are that sure, you have nothing to lose and yet another chance to create a situation for me to look foolish, which I know you can't resist. Let's just see if this is some hot and humid air from our esteemed Long Island colleague, or if you are going to back up the talk with some action. Don't make me call you a wager "tease"...... :p

The July 17th bet wouldn't be at all fair...because you can control the outcome...therefore any results would be Invalid....
If we are gonna bet...it needs to be definate and concrete things....nice try though.

I am leaving for Niagra Falls tomm....so you there will be a lag in my response...don't want you to feel ignored...

You can expect a call or two..rest assured...

Oh ye of little faith,

Aside from my acknowledgement that I could somehow taint a wager on the July 17 event, I would be willing to give my word that I wouldn't do anything to taint the outcome. That is just how confident I am of the outcome. But, use whatever excuse you must to avoid losing the bet.

Unlike you,
I cannot be "baited" into bad bets. We will think of something....

Just for a laugh...aside from the Minnesotans at the Canadian border...last nite..my 5th nite of drunken abandon...we went to this bar in Auburn..near Syracuse...and my friends requested "Tarzan Boy", and the DJ actually had it and played it...a perfect ending to a perfect vacation...

Canadian beer with 7.9% alcohol really does have a significant effect...

There are stories upon storied to be told...

Well, I guess if I were you I wouldn't make such a concrete claim as to that you'd never get baited into a foolish bet. But that is just me. :p

Hey People,

On my award letter there is a budget amount for books/equipment of around $2,600 . That seems pretty steep. Is it actually necessary to spend this much on books and equipment (???)

What has been ya'll's experience?

Class of 2006!

you will not spend that much on books...look back to previous posts...and you will see...they "overallocate" in that area..but are not so generous in other areas...but somehow it all manages to balance out..

I'm trying to punch-in some numbers into my budget spreadsheet....what do you think some would be a realistic number for books/equipment?

Thanks :)

Just for the record....its YOSH...not Josh,
As far as books....all you will need 1st semester is Netter for Anatomy, and maybe Robbin's Pathology....that is all
People including myself didn't listen and bought all these books that we didn't need and didn't have time to read...I am sure they would have been helpful...if there were a few extra hours in the day...
Both books together.....probably $100...as far as equip...microscope fees are included in tuition...and there are no real major purchases....2nd semester we start ICM(Intro to Clinical Medicine) and they have us buy this stuff...that again we didn't need....

anyone else feel differently???

I don't know, I think Yosh could pass for a Josh. :p

As for books, it really depends on the individual. A Netter is pretty much an essential, and I have not heard anyone say otherwise. Robbins Path is also a good one to pick up, but I'd check to make sure it is on your schedule as I've heard rumors, and only rumors mind you, that the 1st years might not get path in the core this year. But as a disclaimer I would check the schedule to make sure for yourself and not take my word for it.
I personally bought a fair number of books, not $2,600 worth, but prob around 500-600. But I'm the type that likes to have stuff around as a reference at any given time. It was a change of pace from Undergrad, as most things are, where I never opened a textbook. However, that is more due to my impatience now in that if I have a question I want to know the answer now rather than wait to ask the next day when I'll have forgotten my question. I know some people who got by with just a Netter and did very well, so I'd take a poll of second years when you get here to get the idea of which ones seem to be most highly recommended. As for equipment, they give you a list of all kinds of fancy toys. I'd say that in the beginning all you'd probably need is a stethescope, a reflex hammer, and a pen light. Everything else for the most part can wait, although if you do things like PCHAT or if you like to practice it can be nice to get an otoscope and opthalmascope. But you can get that stuff off the the internet for a cheaper price than at the bookstore if you feel ambitious during the spring semester.

If you are one of the ones who went military, scrap the above advice and get everything on the list. They pay for it, and the medical equipment is not a completely useless venture, not to mention some of the textbooks. I wouldn't go snapping up a lot of books now, but I'd wait to see if you feel some of them are really necessary for you. If you were to buy anything, Netter's your best bet.

"Snapping up a lot of books".....interesting....

As much as I may hate to admit it..Sam, as usual is on the money...so I would take her advice..

One other point for the newbies.....rumor has it that if you catch a MidWesterner under an alcohol tree at the 1st MS1/MS2 party...they are rendered defenseless and will be forced to turn over their baseball hat...

I "snapped up" a hat for myself last year...

Just had to go there, didn't you Josh....

Interestingly, I don't recall being the only one falling victim to the power-draining forces of the alcohol tree....... I'm sure a few people would back me up on that.

However, as some advice to the newbies or anyone else for that matter, should you wear a hat to the first party, duct-tape it to your head if you wish it to stay in your possession. And even then, it may not be safe....so maybe just don't wear a hat at all if you want to keep them, they do tend to wander.

Hmm...didn't think there were any hats big enough to fit Josh's head...
Life is truly full of surprises.

Gdub

Thanks YYYYYosh (There. Got it right. )

And thanks "Sam" for what seemed to be well balanced advice. I think I'll take it :)

DIM SUM IN DA HOUSE!!!!!!!!!!!!

GDub,

As is the way things tend to go, both generally speaking and the ways of Josh in particular little should surprise.

Quite a phenom, if you will......much like vegans who don't get enough protein and run into a myriad of biochemical maladies.

Less than a month left....hope everyone is enjoying their time off.

Tweety,
you don't need to get the parking permit. You can park on certain streets around campus and even at the parking area outside the Plaza Apartments along Eleanor St. After 5 or 6pm, you can park in most of the school parking lots anyway if you decide to repark after school. Parking shouldn't be too big a deal.. there are always other options.

I was wondering what happened to this thread.. I tried searching and couldn't find it.. so hopefully this post will get it back on the map.

Sammy,
It's amazing enough imagining you on a piano, wearing a red dress, and singing bette midler tunes... But would really cream people's twinkies is Josh in a red dress, on a piano, singing "Did you ever know that you're my hero..."

Well GDub....as with the rest of the world....I do have my price..and I would never say NEVER to anything...

After a summer in Amsterdam, where the only thing that seemed to be illegal was copulating with a 3-legged red spotted toad on Tuesday in the rain...and even that was open to discussion...

Wait till next year's honor society auction..... I'll bring the house down....

We will have to discuss this when school starts...I will be back in L.A. as of Monday nite...shall we meet for drinks this week???

ANYONE???

"I could fly higher than and eagle....'cause you are the wind....beneath my wings"

See ya guys soon....seemingly too soon

Hi COMP class of 2005, I'm going to begin COMP in about a week since I'm part of the class of 2006. Orientation starts this wednesday and I was wondering if anyone of you knew if there is a certain dress code for orientation, i.e. dress shirts, slacks, etc. Thanks any info on this minor detail will be appreciated....(I just don't want to be the scrub showing up to orientation in basketball shorts, a wife beater, and flip flops when everyone is wearing armani suits.) :)
