University of Toronto Pharmacy c/o 2021

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Thanks, I'll give it a try tomorrow morning

Hey, so I had a similar problem to you in terms of almost not getting in one of my final marks for the June deadline. I emailed admissions and they said if they don't receive it on time then it's basically a disqualification. They are only lenient with deadlines if it was due to circumstances outside of the students control - I.e. your school didn't submit the transcript even tho you requested it on time etc. But ya still call them and ask.

OH MY GOD, I was able to keep myself distracted for the past couple hours, and basically gave up on hope that they results would be out today. When I refreshed, the last post was about how the office literally waited till 5pm to publicize the results before I had a mini heart attack and checked.

I was accepted! So excited to meet the rest of you in September!!

Here are my stats (I posted in this thread before through another account but forgot my login lmao):

cGPA: 90% (4.30/4.30, but my uni only puts letter grades on the transcript)

PCAT comp: 90
Writing: 3.0
Bio: 82
Chem: 98
RC: 58
QR: 88

MMI: Unlike most people, I actually felt terrible about it. I felt like I did decent in only 2-3 stations, while the rest were either bad/barely OK. From 1-10, I felt like I averaged a 4.

Overall, I think my academic performance was able to offset my MMI performance (though it really is hard to gauge how you do on the interview).

Congratulations to all who were accepted, and best wishes to everyone else who is still waiting on possible good news!!

Oh, I see :( Thanks for the reply! I thought everything was okay since they sent me the interview notice, but I guess not.

Anyone here accepted had a grade that's in the D range 50-59? I had one grade in this range and it was a pre req course, I'm wondering if this was the reason I didn't get accepted :(

Hello everyone, Im a long time lurker, wasn't planning on making an account but I wanted to know if anyone was accepted after missing one or more of the deadlines?

I was rejected

cGPA: 3.9
PCAT
Bio 90
Crit Reading: 91
Quant: 88
Chem: 99
Comp: 97
Writing: 4
MMI: went okay?

I submitted my semester 1 scores late, in March instead of by the end of Jan :(. I'm wondering if this is the reason? Did anyone get in after submitting their uni marks after the deadline?

Based on what i heard, UofT is really keen on their deadlines. Based on your stats, they all look above average and if your mmi went okay (I am assuming average) then it would have to be due to the late transcript submission. Unless you told them about it and had a valid reason for the late submission.

Yeah.. I dont have valid reason I just didn't read the instructions properly, I'll try again next year!
Thanks for the reply

I received exactly 50% in chm220, and I was accepted.

EDIT: I guess I'm in a bit of a unique situation. CHM220 was the only prereq I was missing, and I graduated last year. CHM220 was the only course that I took this fall, and I was very unmotivated to do well in this course. I was able to show that I could handle a full course load through my other years.

I got accepted!!! Can't wait to see you all in September :)

Waitlist for residence but I don't know if I'll be accepting even if I get offered

Who else is going to live in a residence space? Or get a place near campus?

Congratulations to everyone who was admitted and good luck to those who have been wait-listed! And for those who were rejected, don’t lose hope on pursuing a career that you’ve worked so hard for.

I just wanted to post about my experience while applying to pharmacy school. To start, last year, I actually applied to only UofT and ended up being upper wait-listed. However, only 4 people got off and with that being said, I had to re-apply this year. This year I applied to both Waterloo and UofT and was admitted to both. So for those of you who have been rejected, do not lose hope! And for those who are interested, my stats are:

PCAT:
Bio: 90
CR: 38
QR: 97
Chem: 94
Comp: 94
Writing: 4

CGPA: 3.4

I also received a D and D+ during undergrad (one of them being an orgo mark, which is an automatic red flag). This really made me doubt myself but I managed to get into both schools. So for those who are planning on applying or reapplying in the future, do not get discouraged by your marks! As long as you have a strong passion for pharmacy, things will end up working out!

Can't wait to meet everyone in Sept !!!

Stats:

PCAT: 97
Interview: Thought I did well on every station but one.

I'm in! Very excited to meet everyone in September!!
Stats for anyone interested
GPA: just under 87
Pcat: 97 comp, 99 chem, 94 bio, 96 math, 82 reading, 3.5 essay
Used Collins, Kaplan, pearson practice tests. Kaplan with practice tests was by far the most useful, the pcat format was identical.
MMI: all stations felt good. Watched all course grinder vids, did all ubc questions, practiced hard 10 days before with friend.

I got in!
GPA: 8.1 (out of 9)
Verbal Ability 74
Biology 95
Reading 49
Quantitative 96
Chemistry 99
writing 3
Composite 98
It was my second time that I applied for UofT pharmacy. Last year my GPA was even higher but because of my bad interview, I got rejected. I can understand how people who got rejected might feel after all their effort (last year I felt terrible). But don't give up and try to find out the reasons for the rejection and work on your weaknesses.

2nd time applying for me too! Got in! 91 pcat composite, A- average and did well on most stations except for collaboration. So excited to meet you all! And those who didn't get in, please keep trying! Work on improving the interview skills and maybe try to get some experience in a pharmacy if you don't have any. I found it helped me in some of my answers.

Unfortunately I didn't get in :(
PCAT 90% and cGPA 83%
I guess my interview wasn't as good as I thought or it's because I didn't have a full course load any year

I had multiple, so that's probably not it. Try again, you'll get in!

i applied for graduate house, but withdrew. I will be living downtown. I feel like res is too expensive for no reason

Looking for advice from someone who may be in a similar situation. I was accepted into med school in Ireland and Australia. I was leaning towards going to Australia, but now I've been admitted to uoft PharmD. I have no idea what to do. PharmD is certainly the safer bet, but I don't know what to do.

Accepted!
cumulative average: 81.19%
PCAT: 96 comp, 4 in writing
Interview: I gave it my all at every single station, didn't feel bad about even 1.
Just finished my 3rd year!

i'd like to share my experience as well! I was hesitant to say it before, but this was actually my third time applying lol. I had wanted to pursue pharmacy since grade 10 and had planned to do two years of undergrad and apply.
The first time I applied, my gpa had literally just taken a hit before final marks went in June, i went from 3.6 to 3.4 something. My pcat was average, not very competitive (comp 82, chem 85 qual 85 verbal 70 bio 95 reading 29) and the interview was okay, felt like a 5-6/10. That year i got lowerhalf waitlisted. At this point i'm super disheartened but still hopeful for next year, plus i was only in second year and had 2 years of undergrad to get my life together. That didn't happen looool. I apply again for a second time during my third year, decided not to rewrite my PCAT (that was a bad move, i really should have rewritten it) and my gpa didn't go up much. basically, my stats did not change significantly and surprise surprise i got waitlisted again. That second time applying was a big waste of time and money and I actually wish I didn't bother, but oh well. Fast forward to this year! I got smart about my courses, took summer courses and a few bird courses in my final year and brought up my GPA to 3.56 (the highest i could get it was 3.6 if i had gotten 4.0's in every class that year). I also wrote my PCAT again in Jan 2017 and bumped up my score to a 94 (chem 99, bio 85, qual 85, reading 56). In terms of the interview - meh it was okay, didn't feel great afterwards.

Anyway my point is, if you have to rewrite the PCAT, you totally should. Take bird courses to boost your GPA. If you really want this, don't let a few failures stop you! If you're on the waitlist there's still a chance so don't lose hope, but be practical and make good decisions for your upcoming year if it doesn't work out.

Sorry about this huge long rant guys hahah. Good luck to everyone, i really look forward to meeting some of you in September. I might come back here to figure out stuff for 'phrosh' or getting student loans CUZ DAT $19K PLUS INCIDENTAL FEES PER YEAR DOEEEE UGH (good return on investment hopefully).

CONGRATULATIONS 2T1s!

It's a great way to meet your fellow classmates and to post questions to the upper years :)

How is res expensive but downtown isn't? Bachelor units downtown will run you 1200-1300+ a month.

You're giving me some hope :) I feel so sad right now it was my first time applying but I don't know what else to do with my life. Do you think getting volunteer experience will help with the interview?

It depends on which career you want tl pursue vs. the path to getting there. Being an austalian MD graduate makes you an IMG and automatically makes it much more difficult (yet definitely possible) to get a good residency back here in Canada. Also, overseas medicine will run you up a lot more in debt, if money is a concern.

Pharmacy prospects in Canada are pretty good, you can find a job within a year of graduating, and the harder you work towards it the better the job/location will be. No residency is required to work full-time, and time you would spend in residency (albeit low-pay) could be used working full time, and advancing your career

So if money/time is not your primary concern, and you have the interest, then medicine is the best route to go.

If you want to work sooner and save a significant amount of money, while making more money in the short run, as well as having the interest - then pharmacy should be your choice.

Accepted ! Just finished my second year at McMaster !!

Cumulative Average - 84.1 %, with a C+ in Organic Chem II

PCAT composite - 97
Chemistry - 99
Biology - 94
Quantitative Reasoning - 92
Critical Reading - 82
Writing - 3.0
- Studied roughly 3 weeks after winter break in second year, I primarily used Dr. Collins to study along with Pearson Practice Tests to get a feel for the PCAT.

MMI - Felt confident for 7 stations, iffy about 2 and completely bombed the first one due to stress. I read about current events and the profession of pharmacy, I also practised interview questions with some of my friends who also applied.

Cannot wait to meet everyone this September !!

From my personal experience, I feel UofT pharmacy doesn't really care about average or PCAT. All what matters is your interview. So, I used to think I didn't get in because of my pcat reading or some C's, but now i don't think they care. Just work for the interview real hard.

I wasn't really good at expressing myself (I came to canada 5 years ago, bad english might have also been one of the reasons) and tended to say silly stuff during my interview.

This year I got in UBC, Waterloo, and UofT. Might go UofT because it's close to my home and some friends got in toronto together, so good luck for those who are on UBC or Waterloo waiting list.
So do you think it really matters if you have a full course load or not? :/

OMG! After the MMI I was 90% sure I'd be waitlisted or rejected cuz I thought I did so bad but I got accepted!!! I still don't believe it!
It's my first time applying, I've done two years of undergrad at York & here are my stats: cGPA: ~3.7 & PCAT Comp: 87. Also, I haven't gotten anything below a B on any course, took a full course load both years, and took the PCAT before learning any orgo and used only Kaplan to study. I honestly don't know how I did it.
I don't think I'll still believe it until I get the official email though, how reliable is the secret link anyways???

It's not just the secret link, the sent out emails saying decisions have been posted so whatever you see is legit.

So do you think it really matters if you have a full course load or not? :/

I personally think they value that a lot. This program is very rigorous and if you can't demonstrate the capacity to take a full course load and subsequently thrive in those courses, how could they trust you to succeed in their program? Not trying to be rude, but I can definitely see why they would value that a lot.

Omg I didn't even remember to check that, and yep, it says I got in too!!!

Congrats to all that got in!!!! All the best in your endeavours.

Unfortunately I did not get accepted to UofT after my second attempt but I got accepted to Waterloo. Pretty bummed since I'm a Toronto native but I guess a change will be nice.

Anybody choosing Waterloo over UofT? If so, why???

if you are okay with living with other people, you get easily get a much nicer room than the rooms in graduate house for about $800.

I think you're right because most people that get accepted did have a full course load but now I can't go back in time and fix that. Do you think 1 year with a full course load is sufficient?

Edit: my interpretation is that 1 year of full course load is enough to demonstrate your ability to handle a demanding program, but if you're doing multiple years of undergrad then a majority of years should be at full course load. 3/4 of my years were at full course load, and the remaining year was at overload.

thanks for the response. As I've worked more and more in a clinical setting over the last couple of years, I've become more and more drawn to medicine. I actually had no interest in medicine, I always wanted pharmacy, until I started working at a hospital. I would probably be better off taking a year off and applying to American schools, but I just don't have it in me to delay this another year. In this end I think medicine makes me happier, but the path to getting there is ALOT more daunting. Pharmacy is a breeze from what I've heard from students at UofT (its not actually a breeze, but you dont have to do super well in your classes). Money is going to be the deciding factor for me in the end. If I can come up with the funds to fund med school, I'll probably go that route. Thanks for your advice though, I'm really torn right now.

many people are choosing waterloo over uoft; the coop program is very attractive. Congrats on your acceptance

There will always be a way to get into debt - i come from a family of bankers haha. You wont have a problem securing a line of credit given your acceptance into medical school, but the debt is pretty significant; youre looking at 50k USD/ year minimum. Your case is interesting because I always wanted to be a doctor until i worked in a pharmacy and later at GSK for a bit... i realized theres alot of potential in industry and I loved the business side more than clinical. Thats just my take though, good luck!

I wish it was 50k! its more like 70k per year (~100k Aud per year). I think the max student loan for medicine is 275k, so I'm gonna need to figure out where to get the rest.

Oh well :( I can't do that since I've already done 3 years with a 4.5 course load

In!!! Just finished my 2nd year.

cGPA: 3.79 or ~ 85.4%

PCAT:
BIO: 29 haha
CHEM: 99
READING: 56
MATH: 81
WRITING: 3.5
COMP: 81
I don't have the greatest PCAT scores and bio was cutting it pretty close. I wrote PCAT in January 2017, so I did not have the opportunity to rewrite. I was worried because most people on SDN score in the 90s for composite to get accepted. I hope that these scores help relieve some stress of next year's applicants who do not have the strongest PCAT scores.

MMI: I didn't feel as if I did well in any particular station. However, I did not feel terrible after the stations either.

SUMMARY: JUST APPLY, YOU NEVER KNOW HOW IT MAY TURN OUT.

In which case, do a full course load in your last year. Doing it at least once would definitely be better than never having done it at all.

ACCEPTED!

My stats for future applicants:
cGPA: 3.77
PCAT (Wrote in January 2017 just a day before the application was due and only used Kaplan to study for it)
Bio: 90
Reading: 52
Math: 67
Chem: 89
Writing: 3
Composite: 80 (definitely not the strongest PCAT score, so a great relief for future applicants in a similar situation)
MMI: Felt good about all except 1 (definitely the determining factor after the interview in my opinion)

I am a first time applicant and I would like to congratulate those who got in. I would honestly like to say that this was my last hope since I faced a rejection yesterday from Waterloo. I was hopeless about what to do next (didn't want to waste or spend a year just to reapply) but to all those who are in a similar situation of rejection(s), please do not lose hope. Good things are definitely stored for you...just have faith in God and in yourself. To those who will join me in September, can't wait to be friends for life and to those who unfortunately won't, I will still see you may be next year or the year after because I know you guys won't give up.

Hey guys, congrats to everyone who got accepted and good luck to those who are waitlisted. If you didn't get in this year, never stop trying.
I got in as well thank God and I am gonna share my stats for future applicants:
GPA: 80%
PCAT composite: 83 ( I used Dr Collins and did the practice tests. I studied for 3 weeks for it)
MMI: I felt ok right after it was done but then I began thinking about things i could've said and it only made me feel worse.

Hi everyone, I was accepted to UofT and UBC's pharmd programs.
Congrats to all the others who were accepted, see you in September (maybe).

My GPA is 89 and I had a 96 composite on the PCAT. I also felt like the MMIs went pretty well.
I failed a few courses in university and took a year off, then returned, and I still got in so I don't think fails or repeats are too important in their admissions decisions.

Is anyone else deciding between UofT and UBC? what factors are you considering?

Anyone else wait listed? Does anyone know roughly how many people got off the wait list in the previous years?

hi everybody! I've been following the forum silently but thought i'd share my situation!

I was lucky enough to get accepted into both uoft and uw and I think i'm going to take uoft! I wasn't expecting to get into both but I planned for this just in case!

So my stats:
-cGPA 84
- Bio 87
- Reading 83
- Math 98
- Chem 92
- Writing 3

So I talked to a few of my friends that go to both uw and uoft pharm, and the pharmacist that I volunteer with, and these are some reasons why I'm leaning towards uoft:
- the quality of education is a bit better at uoft compared to uw. It's more established and uoft has a more reputable reputation as a pharmacy school.
- although uoft has unpaid placements, the placements are better at uoft! My friend just had her last placement at CAMH which is exactly what I want to focus on - mental health!
- yes uw has paid co-op BUT supposedly it's extremely competitive, the majority of it needs to be self-arranged AND if you do find a placement, it's more likely to be in a remote/rural area.
- Not sure how accurate this is, but the pharmacist that I work with (At shoppers), told me that if I had the choice, to pick UofT if I wanted a better chance to work in the GTA...otherwise i'd be more or less stuck working in an independent pharmacy or i'd have to move further away.
- finally, I'm from brampton so I'd like to stay close to home (possibly save on rent/food??) + the vibe/lifestyle that comes with living in toronto compared to waterloo!

That was my decision process :p Sorry for the lengthy post, just thought i'd be thorough for other and/or future applicants. If anybody has a similar situation to me, I'd love to hear your input! Congrats and I can't wait to meet everybody :)

Anyone else wait listed? Does anyone know roughly how many people got off the wait list in the previous years?
Using past years is kind of a hit or miss. Each year is different. I believe last year only 4 people got off the waitlist but the year before that, 22 did. I'm sorry to be the bearer of bad news but it just depends from year to year.
