University of St. Augustine Fall 2015

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
since St Augustine is opening another location in Miami starting Fall 2015, does that mean they are taking more applicants from the Florida interviews and placing some in St Augustine and some in Miami?

Has anyone who attended the March 20 interview at the Florida campus heard back yet?
I haven't heard anything.

Anyone who interviewed today in FL - did they give a better indication of when they would begin making offers?

@Mugsy14 I was under the impression that the Miami campus would begin receiving applications in the fall of this year, not that they would be accepting their first class for Fall 2015. But I may have misunderstood what was said.

To who interviewed in Austin today, how were the interviews and and news on anything else?

Anyone know how many applicants they are selecting for the Florida cohort?

I was at the interview day in Florida on March 20th and I believe they said they were accepting 55 students for the Fall 2015 class. I am eager to know if they gave any other information at today's interview day on when they will start making decisions!

Well based off that number it would SEEM that they would take some students from the March 20th interview and then some from the April 10th since they gave the March 20th candidates a date of 3-6 weeks. Theoretically that could mean they are just going to go based off both interviews and won't have decisons out until that 6 week makr for March 20th and 3 week for April 10th.

Honestly, not a fan of the way USA is handeling this process. It has been said multiple times over this thread how poor they have been at communicating but also they aren't being completely honest. One would imagine they knew all along when they would make decisions for the earlier interviews but just put the wider range to save their butts. I would have preferef if they just said that they would wait until both interviews concluded to make a decision.

I have seen them accept people "along the way" more times than not. Across the three campuses for summer admission invites came out of a rolling basis. So I wouldn't jump the conclusion that they were purposely deceiving you from the start.
I mean this in the most constructive way possible but, Everyone gets frustrated by waiting for acceptances without considering the difficulty of reviewing applicants. I would rather have a delayed acceptance knowing that my classmates were of the highest standards than have them throwing out acceptance emails without having a chance to see the entire pool.

Lol, Campbell, you see the world through glasses that are obviously rose colored, the priorities at USA don't include a careful, exact process of building a class of the "highest standards".
USA is a for profit COMPANY, acquired by Laureate International recently.
The transition to their systems, policies, procedures has been a rocky one, and the resulting admissions processes over the last number of cycles w/ lack of response to inquiries, processing delays, last minute interview invites, etc. are all a result of that acquisition/transition.
It is definitely a factor to consider regarding the School, and the frustration multitudes have experienced along the way are completely appropriate.

I'm not saying that their admissions committee is full of perfect people. I myself was inconvenienced by an incorrectly stated time frame by the school too. I am also highly aware that the hold up is due to transitions within the department. I have been following feeds for multiple semesters now. However amongst all of the transitions they do take pride in the student they bring into the school and therefore are taking time to accept what they see as quality people into their programs. While this may be taking longer than they originally anticipated (as the summer cohort is beginning shortly and they are also trying to get everything together for the incoming class) it is not worth getting upset when the full length of their original time frame has not yet passed. I wouldn't say it's looking at life through rose colored glasses but rather being realistic and considering the whole situation. I like to remain positive through stressful situations.

Moral of the story is patience and perseverance are the only things that will peacefully get you through this process. Take a deep breath and keep your chin up. It's happening to us all.

Doesn't make it right, "It's happening to us all" is never an excuse for any kind of unacceptable behavior.
For the $'s being spent, even before being accepted, on applications/flights/hotels/etc. in this process, no one should accept this level of performance.
You/we are the consumer. If we take the "it's happening to us all" attitude, it will continue to happen, to us and to those after us.
And we will have no one to blame for that, except for the person we see in the mirror.

I just had my interview for Flex DPT this morning for the San Marcos campus. Like others have said, it was a very laid back atmosphere and the staff there really did a great job of making us all very comfortable.

The morning began with Jennifer Finn ealing us through our packet and going over financial Aid and the basics of the program. Next we had our group interview. I don't remember our interviewers name exactly, I believe it was something like Professor Peters. She cracked a lot of jokes and really broke the ice. I found myself actually enjoying the interview. Jennifer sat in on the interview

Questions she asked:
why are you here (tell me your story)?
how will you stay motivated in the program?
what would you do if you were having issues with a professor or the materials?
what are you willing to sacrifice for this program (this was meant in regards to hobbies, jobs, time with family, etc.)?

Our essay was very straight forward: why the Flex program instead of the full time program?

After the essay we were given a campus tour and this concluded our day. We were told that admission decisions would mostly be made by the end of next week, perhaps two weeks.

well hopefully when they say next week, or two they mean it (and for everyone)... for those of us who interviewed weeks ago, our 3 weeks has come and gone lol

I was accepted for the Summer but am wondering if I can defer my acceptance for the Fall. Does anyone know if this is possible/how to go about deferring?

I'm not sure how it works after an acceptance but you should just be able to call admissions and speak to the enrollment advisor. If you email or leave a message you likely won't get a call back. So call a couple times a day until you get in contact with someone. That's the only way you will get an answer.

Hey,

I'm not sure which campus you applied too but I had a similar issue. I needed to defer to fall after my interview for summer. I did not hear back on whether I was accepted or not like you did because I already knew I had to defer. I was told everything could be deferred including the fact that I had already interviewed but I would be up against the pool of applicants for fall versus the summer ones meaning everything would have to be reviewed again. If you applied to the Florida campus, contact Angeline Cloud. That is who I was put in contact with in order to defer everything; she's an admissions specialist and would for sure be able to help you out. Her email is [email protected]. Even if you didn't apply to Florida campus she would probably be able to give you contact information for someone else! Hope this helps a bit :)

Ah thank you so much! I will definitely get into contact with her! Fingers crossed deferring my acceptance could be a possibility. I applied for San Marcos, but like you said, I'm sure she could get me into contact with someone. I live on the east coast, so it's just too much for me to find an apartment in Cali, get prepped for school, etc. all by May 7th. Again, thank you very much, I greatly appreciate your help!

Did she apply for DPT flex? Because I know the flex program have a separate pool of acceptances...this waiting game is killing me. I wonder when they'll start emailing the acceptances for their DPT program..

Am I the only one who can't eat or sleep until I receive a decision back? Lol. Seriously. I keep checking this page non-stop to make sure I'm not missing an update. I don't like this feeling at all.

I think we are all feeling the same way

Anyone who interviewed at the Austin campus on 4/10, did they tell you guys it'll be 3-4 weeks before decisions are sent out? And anybody have a guesstimate on how many DPT candidates were there?

I was at the interview today, all they said was that they will hopefully have final decisions within the next 3 weeks.

Thanks for the info! Did you happen to count how many students were interviewing for the DPT program while you were there? At the 3/20 interview day, there were only about 30. I am also dying to hear back! :/ Let's hope it's this Friday!

At the 4/10 interview for the Florida campus I'd guess there were about 40 give or take. Hopefully if they are accepting around 55 students like stated earlier that gives good odds!

Glad you skipped work for the interview, eh? haha

Definitely. They are having another interview session for Flex at SM but the peace of mind and relief of getting accepted is definitely worth having missed work and being a little extra broke :)

Does anyone know if you're able to defer to the next term if you get accepted? just wondering.
I was accepted for Summer 2015, but asked to defer my acceptance for Fall 2015 due to a couple of reasons (wouldn't finish prereqs on time, cost, etc), and they could only defer my application, not my acceptance.

I'm at the point where I'm running out of ways to distract myself while I wait to hear back from USA. I'm still over-thinking the responses and my body language in my interview. Let's find some sort of game to play with these comments instead, lol. In terms of clinicals in PT school, what patient population do you want your first rotation to serve? I think pediatrics is my #1.

It would determine how long the rotation is. If it was a shorter, I would say Peds or acute. If it was a longer one I would definitely want a Neuro rotation. I love neuro! :-D

check your spam!! my acceptance email was there for a week

When will the DPT program start sending out acceptance email?

@Dptappl I'm thinking next week (hoping today, haha). If you check the portal, they said they are implementing a new online application process starting the 20th and the next application deadline is June. They'll probably send notices out next week, so they can focus on those changes

It's annoying they couldn't wait to make these changes till after they let us know, oh well.

I haven't seen anyone mention MOT yet. Do you think we are in the same boat? This waiting game is awful :(

I am not sure how many pre-OTs are on here since it is a pre-PT thread. May be beneficial to go to the OT specific one and get answers there.

I haven't had any luck finding one, maybe I'm searching the wrong thing.

If you type in "St. Augustine" into the search bar. You should be able to at least scroll for past St. Augustine MOT applicants and get a better indication of the admissions timeline :)

Where did you get the information that they're starting a new application process?? I deferred my application to Spring, but I have not been told that info nor does the portal say anything like that? At least from what I can see anyway.

It is in the admission tab in the USA portal. I don't know if it is anywhere else. This is what I see:

"IMPORTANT NOTICE FOR ALL PROSPECTIVE APPLICANTS.
The University of St Augustine for Health Science will be offering an new admissions experience to its prospective student start on April 20th. To make this transition we will be removing access to the current applications at 3 pm EST on April 16th. Any partial application that has not been submitted by that time, will need to be completed using our new admissions process.
The new application and admissions process is for the benefit of our future students. In addition to providing a better over experience, the application fee will be reduced to nothing.
Please return back here on April 20th at 12 PM EST to see information and a link for our new application"
