not sure about my living situation yet. Everything off brickell seems awesome and it's pretty close. The downfall is it's pretty expensive. What about you JPAF?

and I hate the 'noles more than nething lol. Watching them lose to Miami this year was the greatest two minutes of my life.

This september it will be the first time for several seasons that UF is going to play Miami. I think it'll be a so-so season for UF next year, we got LSU, Kentucky, and Georgia in a row, and no Auburn game, thank God. I'll definitely be going up to the swamp for the Miami game though and the LSU game if I can.

Having grown up a 'Cane my whole life down in South Florida I have this terrible sinking feeling that the September 6th meeting will be one of the roughest days of my life if I ultimately end up at Gainesville next fall

...On the plus side, my sister is probably gonna go to FSU for undergrad, so no matter what I can give her a hard time about the downfall of the Bowden Empire :D

 I grew up in a town right beside Gainesville, and it just felt natural to go there for undergrad. But now I will be going to UMiami this Fall .

I have to be genuine though, and even though I will be in Miami, I will always be a gator. If possible as a med student, I will definitely go see some Miami games and wear their colors, but I could never stop rooting for the Gators. Once you go to UF, you will see how football is king!

I don't know if you know this, but, Bowden died four years ago. Yeah, he is being held together by his waxy residual ego and moves by a system of wires.
Seriously though, I found out a month ago that he is the highest paid state employee. http://www.firstcoastnews.com/news/local/news-article.aspx?storyid=82142

maybe a little off topic from current convo but anyone know how the 2012 class is filling up so far? still seats left? any info on what percentage is accepted/waitlisted/rejected after interview? thanks.

I have no clue...I have to wait and see what my budget is going to look like:confused: I want to live it up because I've been stuck in Colorado for 6 years! Brickell doesn seem good...also SoBe and Coconut grove are possibilities. But if i have no money i might be living in the towers or with my cousin.

SoFlaKnight better get ready to see a lot of orange and blue.

However, we just didnt have a team like we did in 2006. We had a really bad over-reliance on Tebow. But in 2006 we had Chris Leak and Reggie Nelson, as well as Caldwell, Tebow, and Harvin. Chris leak saved us in a few games in 2006 because he could throw long, but this year it was too much reliance on Tebow running the ball.

He won a Heisman which is great and all for him, but the team itself didn't seem as disciplined nor as "humble" as it was before. Also, LSU was really disciplined and on their game this year, and our defense in the Georgia game was lacking.

I hope to see Miami perform well this season.

Yeah and I think Leak's unpredictability gave them an edge in 06...every defense knew what to count on with Tebow...you know your stuff!

Ok, :scared:, the day is here. UM said they would be contacting us on the 16th. Now, my question is this. Is it the 16th or has it usually been a day or so later?

Furthermore, how will they be contacting us? By phone or e-mail? I forgot what Dr. Hinkley said.

Cheers to the TRUE BEST MEDICAL SCHOOL IN FLORIDA, WHETHER I GET IN OR NOT!!! I am giving YOU ALL THE CROWN? I have seen your competition and you all should be proud. Medical mission trips and Jackson = world class operation.

With that said, I do not know where I would choose still Boca or Miami? So different but each is so AWESOME in their own way. Either way, I am proud to be in your considerations. Thanks UM!

Its a wonderfully painful choice to make:) They will most likely e-mail you by the afternoon tomorrow. Dr. H said the day and the e-mail came on that day in the afternoon...at least for me in October. Good luck! Tell us as soon as you get word...

The admissions committee meets late this afternoon. Dr. H may very well end up sending out emails later tonight. If it gets to 11 o clock and you still haven't received an email, please try to get some sleep! Tossing and turning all night like I did won't make the email arrive any sooner.;)

BTW, you get an email first, and then a letter (in a THIN envelope) in the mail a few days later.

If I end up in Hogstown, you guys should come and crash up here for the Game on Sept. 6th:hardy:

welcome hebrewhammer!! congrats on the acceptance!! I feel ya on wanting to get started.. These last few months of undergrad just drag onnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnn.

I go the alternate list. Man do I suck! Oh well I can honestly say Miami is still my first choice, especially the Boca campus which I have to hold off and wait for them now. I have a quick question, has anyone had the experience of not being waitlisted to one school and getting into the other school. Lets say the one campus like you more than the other has this happened?

Wow, you made my day, my weekend. I was about to be sitting here with the awful thought that because I got the hold from one campus I would automatically be held at the other. Again, I have the HIGHEST respect for doctors LOL, for this process is arduous.

JPAF did you say you were going to the Miami campus right? You seem like cool people and I am trying to collect them all for Boca, Jk hahaha. I will say though for the deans cup you will want me on your team!

Yeah MIA is where I'll be...Oh we will have the deans cup on lock! Trying to get a crew together, lol...don't worry i live up around Boca and will surely be making my way up there to party with friends and raid as much food out of my moms fridge as possible. Damn...I miss her homecooking already...

Oh Hell Yeah. We should just go ahead and stamp Property of Miami Miller all over that bitch!

I am pretty certain that I will end up in Boca, but I want to go ahead and say that anyone from the Miami campus is welcome to crash at my place and eat my food. Seriously, even if someone just needs a place to go after a night out at Ft. Laudy or anywhere nearby.

Oooo...dibs on the food! Don't worry I think I might drag a crew from the mia campus up to my hometown now and then. And the same goes if you boca ratonians find your way down south...I'll always have a cold beer ready;) I wonder when miller is going to send out more info...im so freakin excited! O don't forget about tailgates UFgrad...definately gotta do it right!

I think I would be the one heading down South more than any of you will be coming up here. But I will say hard-rock is a happy middle that everyone can come to.

I am wait-listed, but hopeful! I am in Coral Springs :)

Does anyone know how many people were accepted vs. matriculated last year? I can only find out how many people matriculated.

I look forward to meeting everyone!

I have recently been accepted to the Miami Miller School of Medicine. It is my top school and I am 100% sure I will attend this coming fall. I already recognize a lot of screen names from the florida thread. I look forward to seeing everyone in fall!!

Congrats man, we look forward! I thought you were also accepted at UF, what was it about Miami that won you over?
Anyways, Congrats again:thumbup:!!

Does anyone know what goes on at Mizner Park. Some chick was telling me that the Town center of Boca Raton is a better place for things, but I had no idea what she were talking about. Is Mizner Park the name of the financial district of Boca or is it a strip of stores with some restaurants and clubs? Sorry, but I am a clueless North Floridian.

Mizner park is almost lame. LOL, it has some resteraunts and sushi bars and some local undergrad bar hang outs. Get old kinda quick but depending on what you're looking for how old it gets and how fast depends on you. What is a whole lot better is going to be Atlantic Ave which is in Delray Beach. If you are familiar with Ft. Lauderdale at all it is like a mini las olas / river front. Not bad if you ask me and much more higher end people/adults having a good time.

Now, everything I just described was sort of a nightlife / club / entertainment perspective. i.e. notice I am writing you this review at 3+ in the morning .

Dining, Boca actually has excellent dining and lots of reasteraunts for you to enjoy.

The real seen is in two places if perhaps 3. West Palm Beach off of PGA Blvd has City Place an lots of little resteraunts and clubs that are nice if your up north that far. South Beach will always remain KING for atmosphere / Beach / Beautiful people etc. A close second to that is your local bar / irish pub scene at Fort Lauderdales Riverfront / Las Olas. Las Olas is where you would want to take a date for a nice dinner etc.

Now, IMO what is really number one if not the closest second is Hard Rock in Hollywood (just south of Ft. Lauderdale.) This is AMAZING. They have tons of clubs that rival SOBE and entertainment / casinos that you would not believe.

Of course I won't be doing any of this because I will be studying accordingly but I am just letting you know what is available to you. Living in Boca and or Miami is going to be one of the best places in the U.S. to live. We will
have tons o funs get ready!

Anyways, Congrats again:thumbup:!!
Actually I have not even received an interview offer from UF, which is surprising to me due to my stats and what not. A few of my friends have been accepted there so i know quite a bit about the school. If they do invite me for an interview, I will decline. What has completely won me over with miami is the early clinical experience, extensive research opportunities, and of course the curriculum as a whole. I am also looking forward to having a nice apartment overlooking the water in miami verses living in seedy gainesville. I just wish i could start today! Are you going to the boca campus? I think i remember reading that somewhere

Hey All sorry it took me so long to find this thread but WhoooooHOOOOT I will be going UM@FAU. Love It....and can't freakin wait until I begin. It's gonna be so awesome. What sold me was the "Boca Experience"

I was actually reading up on the Dean's Cup. I think that sounds really cool. My best friend from home is currently on the waitlist for the Law School, which would make the whole thing even more fun.

Anyone know what "events" exactly are involved?

anyone plan on studying up on the medical spanish now that we plan on serving a 1/3 spanish speaking population?

To answer a few questions on this board:

Dean's cup is a week-long series of athletic events where medical students compete against law students. The list of events changes from year to year. However, we typically have swimming, a one-mile run, soccer, tennis, a variety of card games, and the list goes on. We encourage all students to partake in at least one sport. Last year, the medical school lost--- so were hoping to regain the title this spring.

Unless you plan on entering an immersion program, starting to study Spanish at this point is going to be useless by the time you get to Miami. Learning a new language requires a lot of time and effort, and simply listening to Spanish music or trying to read one of the Spanish textbooks isn't going to cut it. However, if you would like to take this summer to travel to South America and spend a month learning Spanish, then I think you would be better off. Also, Spanish gets touted more than is necessary. We have a large diverse patient population here in Miami, which contains a lot of Creole speakers. How many people on this board speak Creole? I once even had a man show up to clinic who spoke only Japanese. The good news is that Jackson Memorial Hospital has a language line and numerous interpreters available. Also, many of your classmates will speak to either Spanish or Creole.

Mizner Park has been already addressed by someone else.

Anatomy at the Boca campus is taught over the course of the first year. The Miami campus continues to use the old curriculum which lumps all of anatomy into two months at the beginning of the first year.

Hola, como estas. Su habla englas? No, no problemo esta mi amiga sarah, el hablando espanol. Se puedo con problemo.

How is that?

Interviewed 14/15th at Miami then Boca.

Another stupid question. LOL, 14/15th of what month, sorry to be anal. Because I interviewed the 10th of Januarary at Boca Raton. I am wondering how you know they are going to get back to you so soon? Dr. Hinkley is great about letting you know when you'll hear back from Miami but at Boca on the day I interviewed they sorta ran out at the end, LOL, so I don't really know.

Cheers and good luck
