Hey guys, was hoping for some advice from someone who knows this kind of stuff
I was accepted to a cardiovascular research REU this summer. I also applied to the Mayo SURF program but haven't heard back, and they say they won't finish sending out letters until the end of march. they are my first choice. should i reach out to them and ask about my application status? D:
 
I thought MIT MSRP was supposed to send out notifications by now.

My friend did this last summer! She said the interview was very informal and just asked about her research and why she was interested in the research there

Good luck! :)

It's a lot shorter than I anticipated last year. Just be yourself and don't try to memorize any answers but rather be as natural as possible!

Make it conversational and do your best to connect with them in the limited time you have.

Anyone know when they are sending out the second batch of acceptances?(basically, by what date do you guys have to accept?) I really want to go there. Might send an update email cause I only have a couple more days until I have to accept my other offer which i still love.

I applied to WashU Amgen and had to accept by yesterday... so maybe next week early?

Has anyone heard back from the SURPH program at Duke? They said they'd notify applicants by March 1st, so I'm not sure if it's safe to assume I've been rejected.

The program director said they were definitely gona send out all decisions on March 15th or maybe a few days before that so we should hear back soon

Me too. I already accepted an offer to another program so I wasn't pressed about being rejected.

So I emailed mayo and apparently all of their acceptances have been sent out, at least in the field that I applied to
For those of you who have done a summer fellowship before, I'm wondering, is it a good idea to accept a fellowship in a field that's different than the research you do at school/plan on pursuing graduate studies in? It's still a really good opportunity but was not my first choice for research field. I doubt I would continue in it, if that makes sense x) I've only got 18 hours to respond so really hope I could get some last minute advice!

I'm in the same boat. I haven't heard back from my top choice program (or my second choice...) so I accepted the offer that I got, once their deadline was reached. I don't think I want to go to grad school there (more of a location/size thing than the field) but I think that any lab experience is better than no lab experience. Who knows, maybe I will love a new type of research? Worse case scenario, I gain more bench experience and learn a style of lab/research to avoid in the future.

I'm curious to hear others' thoughts though. In some cases, if you have a lab at your home university where you're already established, I can imagine choosing that over an unknown might be tricky.
