*Oral Surgery Interviews 2007*

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
I am right there with going4os, same stats, however I have not been contacted by any programs. I am extremely concerned (big understatement). I know I need to start considering other options. However, wondering if we will hear from programs once some of the All Stars posting on this sight have to decline interviews due to scheduling conflicts? Also what date do people view as the end-all, nov. 1st or before?

Back to free places to stay, let me know if you guys need a place to crash in Boston!

Dude 93 is NOT the new 90. I have a 91 and have 13 offers so far. I applied to 22 programs. I only applied to 6 yr programs which I think as a group are less competitive than the 4s right now. I think there are a bunch of programs, especially 4 year programs that haven't invited anybody yet. Hang in there guys.

Thanks for the replies guys. Its good to know I'm not the only one. Anyway, no one answered any of my original questions.

1) Do places invite all the interviewees (if that's a word) on the same day or not?

2) Should I call some of these places or is that a bad idea? If I should, what's the best thing to say?

3) Do all places eventually send you a rejection letter or do you just not hear from them?

Thanks again.

Usually they invite everyone at once. That said, a couple of my classmates just heard from VCU today though it was posted last week. Also, a friend received UAB a couple weeks after it was posted here.

2) Should I call some of these places or is that a bad idea? If I should, what's the best thing to say?

Personally, I would only call if you didn't hear from a place you expected to hear from, ie. you did an externship and it went really well. If you call, I would just say, hey this is joe blow. I am just calling to check on my application status.

3) Do all places eventually send you a rejection letter or do you just not hear from them?
As I am told, some send them and others don't.
Thanks again.

No problemo

It does kind of seem like the 6 yrs. are either less competitive or just quicker on the draw than the 4 yr. programs. Does this vary from year to year?

Just got this one today I know others had already heard from them
Program: UAB
Interview date: Oct 30 or Nov 7
Mode: email
Date of offer:10/15

Just goes to show that even though some places have already sent out interviews it doesn't mean they wont send out more.

rejection email from Indiana today.

Got rejection from Indiana today

and going4os got a 92??? color me confused:confused:

I'm confused as well. However I wish servitup the best of luck. Keep posting them guys. I think this is the best way to know what's going on.

maybe the difference is undergrad GPA. I believe 6 yr programs also consider your undergrad GPA as you are going the the med school as well. I really don't know though...just speculatiing.

Hey guys. It sounds like I have similar stats to some of the guys who aren't getting to many interviews.
below 90
top 10% or so
3.6 College GPA

Anyway, I just wanted to say keep your heads up. THere are a lot of programs who haven't set anything out yet. And at worst we do a year internship and rock our first year as a resident. For the record I have 4 interviews, 3 at dual degree programs and 1 at my home field advantage program. I also applied to 30 4 year programs and 7 6 year programs. Good luck guys don't get dissappointed. We will get there sooner or later.

Ive been checking this thread religiously for the last month and figured I should start posting a few things myself :D

Id agree that it seems that the 4 year programs seem to be getting more competitive....and maybe the new 90 is, in fact, 93 or perhaps maybe even 94 considering my stats and the fact that I only have 2 interviews so far:eek:

Hey guys. Is it better to do an internship or a GPR? I think you get more from a GPR. I had a buddy who interned for two years and still didn't get in. Btw, do you get paid as an intern?

Since you had a denture appointment from 2 - 4 today and this post was at 3:05, I pretty much have to assume you were writing about erections on the internet while that little old lady was sitting next to you in the dental chair. Class act, my friend.

Why is it that whenever Brycethefatty posts a message that this board goes to sh#@? I hate you.

Since they're not posted, here are some to add to the list:

Minnesota by phone yesterday -- interviews on 11/15
Vanderbilt by e-mail a couple of days ago -- interviews on 11/14, 11/15, or 11/17
Penn by e-mail today -- interviews 11/16

Seriously, don't these guys TALK to each other about dates? That's at least five programs in a four day span. Anyway, good luck!

Does anyone know when USC is going to give out interviews?

UNC is interviewing on Nov. 30 and UT-San Antonio is interviewing Dec. 6-7. To my knowledge, neither have yet offered. UNC is definitely looking at apps right now so I think they will offer soon.

I wanna play too! -- Anyone hear from Carle, or any of the Ohio programs yet?

I'm starting to wish I was JakeD so I could have every interview imaginable at my fingertips. Then I would have my harem of forty wives come and entertain me.

Totally off the subject...but, has anyone gone on any interviews yet?

The only programs who have conducted interviews at this point are Mass Gen and Memphis. A bunch are starting up this weekend. One of my classmates has his first interview on Friday...I have to wait until next Tuesday to start.

I went to Memphis this past weekend. It was completly chill. I did an externship there, so I knew the residents and attendings. I think even if you hadn't done one there, it is still pretty laid back. Nothing to fear.
Heading to Emory this weekend.

Montefiore by email today Dec 14 or 17th
USC by email today DEC 6,7

by USC I meant southern Cal not South Carolina.:)
