So do the dental students get a remedial version of the test? ;)

So I've pretty much taken the afternoon off. I think I might be a bit screwed. :scared: I also feel like a dumba&& because I didn't get that Leon used the same copy for both tests.

I am truly a dumba**, I actually left the test thinking that the viagra question was a real question, I even read the drug names and didn't get the joke. Man, I have really fried my brain studying for biochem. How many consecutive days do you think I can stay awake and still function normally?

I was talking to my husband today about fried neurons, and I'm there. I came home and honestly stared at the wall for about 30 minutes. By Thursday, I probably won't be able to talk. :)

So what was up with the people who finished the test in like 30 minutes? I'm usually on the faster test-taking end, but there were a few people who were leaving before I was halfway through.

Ok. Now you're just playing. :D I'M old enough to have a kid that age, but you don't look like it!

You moms, and I know there a quite a few, deserve medals for doing all this. But I have a soft spot; my mom had to take me to vet school with her because there was no paying for daycare. And I'm old enough there was no "Wow, you're a woman, welcome. Lemme get your door..." It was more like guys leaving aprons in her locker and professors telling her to stay in the kitchen.

You guys rock.

I'm not playing, I have three boys; Keegan 7, Collin 6 and Jack 5. Yes, that's kindergarden, first and second grade. And, yes I'm insane. I hope my kids turn out ok! At least I had a good excuse for a 2 hour study break; dinner, homework and bath time.
Being a mom actually helps me stay somewhat balanced. I can't study too much because I don't have the time. I get lots of support from my family and I just want to get through the next however many years.....
I think things are easier now than they were when your mom was in school. It sounds like you have a lot of respect for your mom and what she has accomplished, I hope my boys will too.
Back to embryo.... I can't stop thinking about how much I hate studying anatomy.......

my score on hanas's material would be awesome if it were a batting average. i hope leon gives us some points back.

Would that be questions 85-97? I missed 12 out of the 13. No, I'm not kidding. I would have done better (5 right out of 13) if I had answered "c" for all of them. This is really sad. Maybe we will get some points back for that section.

84-99, if I wrote it down right.

I was way too confident about Bidi's and Leon's, b/c of WUME performance. I put a lot more time into the middle relief and the closer's stuff, and still did pretty bad. Relatively, at least from what I'm used to.

Do you have the breakdown for all of the questions? All I know is that the majority of stuff I misssed was on the back side of my answer sheet. :)

Oh, sorry :D

1-33 Bidi
34-37 CF
38-60 Leon
61-76 Broyles
77-83 SC
84-99 Hanas
100 CF
101-105 DMD
106-110 Bidi
111-123 Leon
124 on Broyles

Have you been able to watch the review videos for embryo, having a Mac and all? I can get them up on my PC, but my audio is FUBAR right now and I don't have the inclination to find out why...

that is what i actually ended up doing for a span of like 8 or 9 questions. freeze is right, 84-99 was hanas's.

I personally never used the book, but the people I know that used it said it was more helpful for the 2nd and 3rd test blocks. I think the best bet for this one is to focus on the syllabus. The questions were very straightforward as long as you know the stuff. Good luck with the studying!

I couldn't get them to work through the link on the embryo page. I did listen to the review through notegroups, but, yeah, it sounded horrible. I also can't do the biochem quizzes.

So the unofficial guide wasn't wrong when it said the clinical correlation questions were some of the hardest on the biochem exam. Those seem to be the majority of what I missed.

I misgridded on biochem questions 85-97. It makes a difference of about 6-7 points. Should I ask that my test be re-graded? Is this possible? I'm such a dummy.

I'd ask Leon...he seems nice...he might give it to you this one time if it's obvious you did that.

I wouldn't discount AOA before even your first test block. ;) Wait until Friday to do that.

But just to give you some perspective on our class... the 4.0s for our first year went well into the second quartile. Ugh...

And no... I wasn't one of them. I did have good grades, though.

Good luck with TB1!

Really? I didn't know that. Know that for sure, cause I know a dude that got a B and still got in the top quartile?

Yeah, the 4.0s didn't quite fill up the first quartile - if nothing else, there were only 30-35 A's in Phys, so there can't be any more than that.

I really blew off studying for embryo (too tired from biochem), and made out with an 85!! I love you embryology!

Too bad anatomy doesn't work that way. I wish I could spend 2-3 hrs looking over a few slides and some notegroups tomorrow morning...I'm pretty sure I won't be sleeping again tonight.

I guess I didn't know for sure.

In retrospect I guess that is a bit of rumor mongering. I don't recall who told me that, but I just took it and ran with it. Regardless, that's a lot of 4.0s. Not that I'm bitter or anything. ;)

^Glad to hear I'm not doomed to the 3rd and 4th quartile yet, because I think I screwed up on embryo... I'm not checking until after the test block. I've focused on anatomy so much, I sure hope it pays off. I can name almost everything before chung does on the videos, so I'm happy about that. Now if only the lecture test will be friendly to me.

The amount of sleep I get is inversely proportional to my ability to form coherent sentences.

Yep, been there. So am I the only person who's not going to study a ton tonight? I feel like I've focused so much on anatomy up until now that a lot of extra studying might not be productive. I guess I'm also an anatomy weirdo because I'm mainly freaked out by the practical. I think I'm just going to watch Chung's videos, go through the upper limb review questions again (already did thorax questions this afternoon) and read the chapter summaries.

Also, is anybody else hating to hang out in their mods right now? I have this weird thing where I can't bear to be around people who are talking about test material or quizzing each other right before the test or people who talk about specific test questions immediately afterwards.

im hating life right now. for some reason i am way more freaked out about anatomy than any other test to date.

Trust your instincts ;) It is definitely rough, but look at it this way, it's all smooth sailing from here! After tomorrow afternoon, you've just got HB left, and then you're FREEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE all weekend ;)

Admittedly, I'm a lab hater, but what was that sh&t in the unofficial guide about the gross practicals being easier than the written test! Anyway, on to HB. It's almost over. :)

i agree. that was some bs. looks like i need to hang out in the lab a little more.

Does anyone know when we are supposed to get the key for the practical?

I think it was BS on the practical that they we had to identify items that aren't even on our list. eg...#55 i think. It was costal cartilage or something...I couldn't remember and wrote in "sterno costal cartilage" or something like that.

There was also some hand muscle that had a pin in it but the tag was on another muscle next to it and I think I identified the one with the pin like and idiot. lol

Love those mri's or whatever they were...hell if it's not a trachea, esophogus, or verte... I'm insecure about it.

Then the dude in front of me did something weird in his table shifting...like jumped to a rest spot in front of the girl in front of him, then comes backwards to where I'm going, so I have to then jump ahead to the rest spot, then can't get back to the table because the chick behind me was already there...it's NOT rocket science dude...the bell dings...you move ahead one spot.

oh well...they'll be plenty more exams to come.

Argh, I don't want to spend more time in lab, but yeah, I think I'll need to. As for the answer sheet, I don't know where it's going to be posted. Also, is hippocrates super slow for anyone else?

Yea it's slow...

Perfect time for hippocrates not to work... how am I supposed to cram for HB?

Luckily I downloaded all of the syllabus material (I think) a few days ago. I sort of wanted to look at notegroups, though, which now I can't. If anybody needs the syllabus stuff, pm me with your email address, and I can send it to you. Thank goodness I didn't wait until the last minute to do that.

Rob just sent out an e-mail reminding us about hippocrates2.ouhsc.edu.

I just tried it, and although it too is running slowly, I was able to access notegroups.

Enjoy!

Hmm, I can't get hippocrates2 to load -- it keeps on timing out. However, the main hippocrates is sort of working. Sort of a bad night for a hippocrates problem, but thank goodness it wasn't last night.

Does this hippocrates nonsense happen a lot during exam week? :scared: I guess for future peace of mind, I'll be sure to download everything well before the exam. Now, I can't get into the main hippocrates, either.

Editing to add that it looks like all of OUHSC's website is hosed. Check it out -- http://www.ouhsc.edu/ (well assuming, you look at before they fix it and all :) ).

In a little more than 12 hours, this stupid week will be over.

It definitely slows down some during exam week, but I don't remember it ever completely crashing like this... I was going to do some IHI, but I guess I have another excuse to avoid it tonight ;)

what is it everybody says about surgery rotations... they can do a lot of things, but they cant stop time. i just keep telling myself the same thing, 12 more hours.

and is case i wasn't clear in previous posts. i hate hb.

ok so i just read over this "6 basic organizing concepts of psychosocial theory" which i will sum up as:

there are different stages of development, each one has has certain compentencies that need to be aquired and each one has a big problem you have to overcome, the way you overcome problems is different for each stage as are your relationships with others and coping mechanisms. if you screw up bad things happen "core pathologies."

I've never seen it this bad during exam week. The worst time is usually when everyone is cramming for anatomy and trying to watch the dissection videos at the same time.

It looks like it is not really a Hippocrates problem. This is from the OUHSC front page:

Intermittent Internet Access

The HSC campus is currently experiencing intermittent Internet access from One Net, the statewide Internet provider. OneNet technicians are currently working on the problem which has been escalated within OneNet. Until this problem is resolved, campus users may be unable to reach many Internet address and users from off-campus will have limited access to HSC web-based resources.

The end is really, really in sight!! I admit I didn't enjoy studying for HB even though I usually like going to class. Next time I'll study a little bit before the night before the test.

It's over...thank Budha's fat little *ss.

HB is a breeze if you just go to class I think. (but I didn't...just read notegroups the night before)

It's still a ******ed subject imo...but some people like all that psycho-babble junk.

Oh well...time for drinking follwed by sleeping.

Yeah, it was fairly easy. There was stuff I didn't know, but I think I studied a total of three hours last night. For the next test block, I'll try to study HB for an hour a week ro something like that -- from the test today, I think that'd be enough to mak an A. I like "psycho-babble" stuff sometimes, but some of it is a bit silly and seems a little unscientific.

So I want to find out the d@mn practical key because that's the lone test I could have failed.

Whoa-oa-oa! I feel good
I knew that I would, now
I feel good, I knew that I would, now
So good, so good, Test block 1 is over!

Lessons I've learned from Test Block 1:

1. There are 24 usuable hours in every day
2. I'm not going to fail medical school
3. I should have been studying more all along
4. You cannot figure out most of the HB exam using common sense (damn!)
5. Studying for test block makes me keenly aware of all the house cleaning I need to do (what's with that, is there a name for this phenomenon?)
6. During test block I tell myself as soon it's over I'm going to do all of that house cleaning
7. I also tell myself I will start studying for next text block as soon as this one is over
8. As soon as test block is over I realize I no longer care about cleaning, and watch mind numbing daytime TV for 3 hours (I actually watched "The View" this morning...so much for utilizing those 24 hours)
9. I need to be okay with being a great mom and an okay student, and should not be okay with being an okay mom and a great student.
10. test block sucks!

So, are we not going to get the HB key till the people who did not show up take the test? Who is going to memorize the key! Anyway, I'm so glad test block is over. I know I did well on HB (who didn't). I'm really scared about the practical though. I think I will be lucky if I get a 60%. I'm glad test block is over and now we know what to expect. I feel better about passing and not having to retake 1st year. Like everyone else I plan on doing more studying BEFORE test block!
Who's going to the WT bash?

I know I did well on HB (who didn't).

So all week I've been joking about failing HB because I never go to class and have been so focused on everything else...well I really think I might have. I just started studying for it last night and I ended up falling asleep, so about 50% of my answers were purely guesses. I'm so pissed. Live and learn

But I agree with you about losing the fear of having to repeat...we can do this!

I bet you did fine. I "heard" that no one failed HB last year. Think of it this way, it's a year long class and we have three more tests. This one was only worth 20% of our grade so you have plenty of time to bring it up if you fell a little short. I was so tired towards the end that I filled in two "bubbles" on one line. Thank goodness I went back and checked (after my bio-chem mistake). Some (about 3) people in my mod did not sleep last night. I really don't get the all nighter for HB. I know on that test that sleep is way more imortant (maybe for every test).
Someone posted the practical answers on Hippocrates if you haven't seen them. They took two answers for several questions so it turned out ok for me. There is hope.....
