I'm not 25 yet (this summer- July 18 -get ready to party with me cuz you're all invited!!!), but my friend who is over 25 is renting the car in his name. I found a hotel deal at La Quinta in Plantation- only 70 per night (that was pretty good from what I checked online, most things are 85 and above). I used Orbitz for my airfare.

I'll let you guys know of any useful info that I find out while I'm down there next week so you can use it when you go.

Mike- are you going down again before the big move? I'll look for your condo while I'm there - is it within walking distance?

Okay, peace out (yes, I'm a child of the 90's) :D •••••Liz,

I'm not sure if I'll be coming down or not... When ever closing on my place is set, I guess... The Condo is located off of NOVA Dr., if your coming from 595 and you go south on University Drive, towards school, take a left on NOVA Dr... then It's about 1/2 mile up on the left.... University Parc, Condo's....

Thanks,

Mike

Hey Yo Yo You Waz upppppppppppppppppppppppppp?

Sorry, I just felt the need to bump us back up! :D

We're number one....we're number one...we're number one...[fading softly into the buzz of the crowd]....

Mike- I'll try to take a picture or two of your development (if I can find it). :) I promise to take lots o' pictures for everyone else who hasn't been down there in a while. :D

Ok, What's the weather like in Ft.L right now? I am in Virginia and it has been raining for two days. I am boarding a plane tomorrow morning to wisk me to Ft.L to find housing. I hope it is pretty down there. I was planning on spending at least one day on the beach. It sounds like we are going to have a big party Monday night with everyone that is there in our illustrious class of 2006. I can't wait to meet everyone. I am renting a car while I'm there to get around even though I am staying close to school and will be looking at apts. close to school. I am not a great advocate of commuting in crazy traffic. Well, off to do laundry now and pack. See some of you tomorrow. My mobile # is (804) 874-6675.

Alright Ladies and Gentlemen,

I'm also going to Nova next year, but for the dental program (NSU-CDM)! I'll be putting up with you DOs next year in all of "MY" basic science courses!! J/K you guys, I'm excited to meet all of you and hopefully, we'll have some interdisciplinary intramural sports that we all can get into, like sand beach Volleyball and compete as Med vs Dent! Are you guys pumped for Nova or what?!!!

Also for housing, any of you considered living on or off the beach off Las Olas Blvd (where all the action is)? My colleague of mine are seriously considering that option because we figured that once we commute to campus, we'll be there from 7:30 AM to 5 PM-ish and there's really no need to go back home for anything! Living by campus is convenient, but living off the beach area is uncomparable!! We looked at some off the beach estates for rent in the Ft. Lauderdale newspapers online, 2 bedrooms/2 baths are only around $800 - $1200 a month with utilities paid! Rents are comparable to those rents that are near campus! I'm just wondering if some of you are even considering this option?

I do believe that the commute will be anywhere from 20-30 minutes to campus from the beach with morning traffic! NOTE: there are many routes that we can take from the beach front to campus.

Hey Y'all,

I'm down in Florida now, and the weather here is beautiful. I cruised Las Olas and the A1A to Hallendale this afternoon. I'm going to the school tomorrow (to make sure that they have that deposit of mine) and to check out some apartments....

Tomorrow night a bunch of us are meeting at the Pizza Loft (which is in the plaza next to the school) around 6pm, so if you're in the area and would like to join us, please come on over! :D (MS1 and above are also very welcome as we are all eager to meet someone in person who can tell us what to expect and hope for...)

See some of you very soon! :)

Cool PCG! Drop some of that sunshine off by Tennessee on your way back why don't ya.

Liz,

What's up?? Are you just sunning!!! Let me know how everything is down there. How is the Apt search going??? Let me know if you were able to stop by the Condo...

Thanks,

Mike

Kevin- I'll drop that sunshine right off on our trip back,k? :)

Mike, I have several pictures of your condo complex that I will email to you when we get home (probably next weekend). They still look pretty primal (are you sure they'll be done by August?)... anyway, you'll see for yourself soon enough. I'm headed off to the beach today, the weather here is amazing. I met two classmates last night, and we had a great time. I think I'm going to be living in Cedar Key which is just great since it's so close to school.

Oh...and if anyone goes to visit, be sure to see Fern and you'll get lots of candy!

p.s. there were a TON of interviewees there yesterday when I stopped in - I wonder if any of them are here on SDN with us??? :D

Ciao for now, talk to you all soon!

Hi! Just wondering if anyone has spoken with Fern about roommates for next year, yet and if so, how did it go???

Also, for all the new acceptees (congrats!), I spoke with the financial aid office and learned that besides filling out the fafsa (fuuuuuuun), we also need to take the financial aid entrance interview on webstar.nova.edu to complete the process.

PalCareGrl: While you were (are?) in Fort Lauderdale, were you able to check out the Cedar Key apts? What did you think of them?

-Melissa :)

Almost forgot, does anyone know anything about the DO/MPH program at Nova?

For instance, when can we declare our interest in being a part of the program? Can it be done during our four years, and when are the classes?
Is anyone planning on taking a part of this program?

Thanks,
Melissa :)

oops, i don't have anything to say...i guess i just bumped this site up to number 1 on the message board...hmmm...

There is an interesting thread in the Pre-Osteo. forum about which school has the hottest guys and gals...nova is definitely represented...check it out!
note to self: time to change "clifford" picture in NSU2006.com to "hottie" picture...hmmm...

NSU definately has the hottest people on campus. You have not only the DO program, but also the dental, OT, PT, PA, Pharm, OD, etc... so there's plenty to go around... just watch the HIVVY.

As far as the MPH program goes, hold your horses. You may not want to jump into that from the beginning. YOu have to realize how IMPORTANT your free time is during medical school. Do you really want to use up that free time sitting in a class for a measly extra degree (unless you want to go into administration or whatever)? If its just for cushion on your CV (which if you were honest may be your reason), don't do it.

QuinnNSU: You're probably right about needing the free time while we're in school. I am considering the MPH only because I have a lot of interest in epidemiology (after taking a GREAT class during my undergrad), particularly as it relates to chronic disease. I can't say with any certainty that I'd rather focus my attention on a career in academia or research, but think it would be an excellent program anyway.

Ah, well, there's time to think about that.

You know, I am *too* excited about NOVA! Can't wait to get to Fort Lauderdale and enjoy some of that Florida sun!

-Melissa

I am not sure if the NSU MPH program is even accredited... I posed that question to the head of the program a while back and got some mumbles in return...

I'm glad you enjoyed epidemiology... I had a minor in Public Health in undergrad (right before NSU)... considered it... but didn't want to take all those classes... its hard enough to do really well your first two years alone... but with another degree on top its a lot of work.

Melissa- Yes, I checked out Cedar Key, it looks like I'm going to be living there (it is SO close to the school- roll out of bed and you're there). They said that you have to get on the waitlist NOW or you may not be able to get an apartment (either that or they just wanted my money). :)

I'm thinking about doing the MPH program also, but it's not a definite. I'm interested in possibly eventually going into administration and I figured it would help (and be easier to get than a business degree). Ummm, what else... I'm back in the frozen midwest and was greeted by snow and blowing winds as I flew in last night... only three months and nine days... yippie!

Oh, I talked with Fern and she said that they are not letting her "do" the roommate thing anymore, apparently someone in the admissions office is out to get her (as she's not supposed to hand out candy either but she gave me a bunch while I was there). Also, if you're sending stuff to either admissions or fin aid, be sure to follow thru...I sent my transcripts a while back and they lost one of them.....grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr. Anyway, that's all for now! There should be some new Florida pics on our website by early next week!

:D Liz

Are you not taking your big dog Liz? I pretty much have no choice but to stay at sunforest at least until i can find a house to buy or rent.

I understood that the funding for the mph program could fall through at any time meaning the student would have to start paying double tuition.

I have been round and round with financial aid for a week. I finally got my stuff done though. They're very friendly if you ever get to speak to them.

Hello all,

My name is Michael and I'm from Detroit, Michigan. I had been toiling with the decision to either attend PCOM or NOVA for two weeks now, and i am happy to say I chose NOVA. You all seem very friendly, and I'm looking forward to meeting you all in August. Until then, I'd like to join the discussion and get to know everyone. If anyone can fill me in as to the 2006 website address and any other details they think are crucial, I'd really appreciate it. Other than that, I just want to say hello, and wish everyone a happy spring, and happy birthday to anyone who has one coming up...I turn 22 April 3. :)

Best,

Michael

" A Box of Rain will ease the pain and love will see you through..."

PCG-
You can't go wrong with Cedar Key... that's where I lived my first two years... hopefully you will end up getting my old apartment (my roommate from last year has it now, and his lease ends June 30th)... its the 3rd closest apartment to school (geographically, and by footsteps!). You definately will be glad you picked CK when it comes to sleeping in as late as possible (or skipping class).

MPH - Don't jump the gun, guys. Seriously. Concentrate on doing well in your first year classes and meeting as many people as you can. A lot of people say "I'll just finish up the MPH credits my third year"... I'll tell you, you don't want to do anything else on top of your core rotations (where I am now).
Q

Hey everyone! Well things at Nova are still the same. I was able to drop some of the pharmacy classes that I had so now I'm at least enjoying my time there! Hehe! Oh, anyone looking for an apartment, try Gardens of Nova on Nova Dr. (it's North on University Drive before you hit the 595 junction.) I decided to move off campus and live with one of my friends in the pharmacy program at Nova. It's a pretty decent place that is gated at night and is pretty reasonable in price. Has alot of extras too...like different cable tv plans, two phone lines in the two bed. apartments, DSL internet connection options, and many more. Another option for all those trying to find apartments.

Anyway, if anyone is visitng before the summer please let me know if you want to get together (DON'T LAUGH LIZ!!!!!!!!! ) Well, hope everyone has started to relax a bit with summer so close and orientation day ever-approaching. Congrats to all new acceptees, we all look forward to meeting you in the summer!

Peace out!
Nema

Hey--what have you guys heard about Poinciana Lakes or Davie Crossings...Cedar Keys has washer/dryer and they won't deduct out of the price if you already have them...so I was looking at the other two...let me know if these are nice--or any other rumors floating around. (I saw a recent post @ Po.Lakes and auto theft...) Thanks guys and gals!
:D

Hey,
I was just at NOVA this weekend. It was great! So I was looking at apartments and stuff and both Poinciana Lakes and Davie Crossing have washer/dryer in the rooms. They are both really nice, although Poinciana Lakes seemed a little bit closer to school and a little bit bigger. I think that you couldnt go wrong with either one!

Barbara

Hey All!

Barb, sorry that we missed you by only a few days (I got home from Florida Thursday night). Nema- all is forgiven... Everyone else that said they wanted to meet up- where were you all? We had a good time, we definitely will have to have a few get-togethers in July before classes start. Now that I've been down there I am SO excited to move and start school!!! Only 184 days to go til orientation. We should be getting our info packets in May! Yippie!!

This must be one of the worst weeks to travel to Fort Lauderdale!!!!!!

I can get the flight, I can get a room, but I can't find even ONE rental car! What a bummer, I was really looking forward to soaking in the sun.

Boo-hoo,
Melissa :)

Don't miss tonight on NSU2006.com(obvious plug) when the REAL identity of "Shibby" is revealed! (obvious attempt to receive more "views.")
Find out if Shibby is handsome and suave' or merely a pretender! HAHA!
On a more serious note: Thanks to Barb for the look at Poinciana Lakes--I think that's where I'll be staying...of course I'll keep everything out of my car to avoid the theft!

Don't be fooled by Shibby...he is not willing or able to reveal his identity, he just wants to get them most hits for his bio. :p I fell into his hypnotic trap once, but it shall not happen again. ha ha!

:D

Shibby,
What's up? I checked for you new bio last night before I went to bed and it wasn't there. I think that it's just a ploy to get more views
Barb

Ok, all of you doubters can love me now--check one more time!
 By the way, should we be checking on alternative loans BEFORE we receive a notice from Nova about how much money they'll be alloting us...I'm clueless about at what point we're all at in regards to F/A!!!

Shibby,

YES! If you need the extra 8k, you should be looking to apply for an alternative loan ASAP. There is a form to print out and send to NSU fin aid but you can only select one type of alternative loan (I chose the Wells Fargo Medical loan). Then you send it to them and they do the rest (at least I hope so). They compare the different types in the financial aid brochure that we got at our interview (or you can ask them to send you one). Apply soon! :)

Hey Barb, speaking of views...whats up with your 300+ and no pic even!!! :p

Here I work like a shibby to sell myself...stooping so low as to put up pictures of cute puppies and stuff, and what do I get? A measly 200 or so.

Hehe :D

I think someone is cheatin'. Liz, you're playing straight with me now aren't you?

Ah, Slingblade,
You see it is a vast estrogen conspiracy...Liz has the now infamous hat and cute pic, while Barb has the sophisticated Bio and a name that just cries out for our manly attention...we stand no chance.
All we can do is hope now that our efforts are not in vain, as we perilously seek to beat them at their own game...and we shall.
ps--shibby works great as nouns, verbs, adverbs, adjectives, and participles...no personal pronouns for it though.

Yes it is quite a versatile name...much like smurf if I remember correctly.

Hmmm barb...that name kinda makes me think of ripping flesh  (eg. barb-ed wire)

You think the fems are in cahoots?

Sling, I'm LOL, I forgot all about those little blue guys.. which were once a part of my sat am ritual!!!

______ Smurf.

Smurf _____.

You fill in the blanks!

Mike

Okay, I LOVE Smurfs! I painted a huge smurf on my wall when I was about 15 (mom was not so happy but she's an artist so she was more accepting than some...). :D

If y'all hadn't noticed, someone's been checking out Brian in a big way (way past Kevin and I). I'm definitely playing straight, because I've given up the fight. Although Brian does have a new picture of me that he's supposed to put up if he ever gets to it (hint hint). I'm wondering what's going on with Barb too (not jealous though, I've gotta give props to the girl who's got all da hits)!   You go girl! We can beat these men (and Shibby)... ha ha.

Hey everybody,

just an update, but perhaps you know already...
orientation is now scheduled for August 5-9
and classes are scheduled to begin on the 12th.

I had spoken to Mary at Admissions and this is what they had told her.
so, I guess the orientation clock needs to be pushed back a little

but whenever orientation is, I am looking forward to meeting everyone then.
btw, is anybody planning on being in the area btw april 18th-20th?

daniel

Alright Slingblade, What's up with the name bashing here? Tearing of flesh?!?! Anyway, I am not really sure how I got so many hits, but I think that Shibby has it right. I guess that I will have to put my picture up soon, but I have to find one first. Liz, thanks for the props. We can definitely beat these guys!

Barb

Devil made me do it

I am starting to feel neglected on the message board. Guess I should get off my rear and have a pic made for my bio. maybe even "update for more views" .

Orientation pushed back, that is a new one for me. Guess that means a few more days of freedom before we all make the textbook plunge  .

Orientation pushed back? Dude, where's my info-packet????? I would think something like that would be mailed to us immediately seeing how we only have a few months left and that most of us are getting ready for the big week already. Hmmm...oh well....

And what is this "bio" war that is occurring on this website. I don't know about you, but I believe this is a poor use of resources intended for us to further our medical educationa....mwahahahahahahahahah!....sorry couldn't get that out without laughing!
But really, who's got the most hits for their bio???? Consider this a pre-campaign for class president...the most hits on the bio meter is obviously the most liked, ergo should be class president....mwahahahahahah!...sorry, another one of those "I couldn't make it without laughing comments!" Just kidding around guys!

Well, in all seriousness, I wish that orientation wasn't holding us all back from meeting each other that much earlier, but heck with four years to go, who's in a hurry? Anyways, take care, stay safe, and for God's sake take a shower! :D

Nema
NSU-COM Class of 2006

Wow!

Thank you to whomever is keeping Barb and I in the lead! :D I had no idea that I could get so many hits in just a day! Us women rock! If Barb beats me, it's okay cuz she rocks! But you guys out there better watch out...don't mess with estrogen!

   I can't wait to move to Florida.......

Wow again! I was just informed that the maximum number of graemlins is eight! :p

Your right Liz,
Definitely just about beating the guys! Have a great Easter everyone.
