Is it too late to start applying to podiatry schools? I heard that classes are full.
international student here
I applied last week of May 2020- like only few weeks before application deadline, got accepted in June 2020 ... so its not too late compared to how late I applied.

Random question and I'm basing this off of your username but are you a first year podiatry student with a DO degree? If so, why go DPM after getting your DO???

LOL, my significant other got into DO and I into DPM, so the name came from that... I considered applying DO but decided against (non-traditional applicant here)

I don't think classes typically fill until some time next year.

Kent visit was nice and I like how it was close to the city. Facilities looked great. Interview wasn't bad and I got grilled for my grades but I think they liked how I answered all the other questions lol. Students were very informative about certain classes.
How did you explain your grades?

How did you explain your grades?

I remember one interviewer being really blunt saying something like "Your grades are honestly terrible" or something like that lol. They pretty much asked why I think I would do well academically. I explained to them that I changed my study habits and I really liked science (i was a different major in undergrad). I did a year of post-bac at 2 different colleges with a gpa of 3.42 and it was also all science classes. Then, I did a 1-year masters program that was all science and I got a 3.68. They looked at those recent gpas and felt like it was a good indicator of me being able to handle the coursework. I also told them how i wasn't focused enough in undergrad and I was doing too many extracurriculars. I think the gpas were evidence of what I was saying. I left feeling like it was a tough interview but i ultimately got accepted.

My application was verified Jan 12. Today I received a rejection without an interview from RFU, the only school I applied to. I have a 3.4cgpa along with a 3.28sgpa. My MCAT is a 497. I have 8 total podiatry shadowing hours that are listed but more that I recently completed. I have research and volunteering during undergrad along with letter of recs from my research prof and a science prof. Honestly at a loss for words because I thought I would at least receive an interview. What happened? Should I apply at different schools to see if I hear anything else? Was I too late?

If you are willing to go to do a different school, then you should apply to 1 or 2 more schools if not all the other ones depending on your financial situation. Your GPA and MCAT are fine, so their rejection could be due to other reasons which may include lack of podiatry shadowing hours (I believe RFU wants at least 20 hours, I could be wrong) or the recent increase in applicants who are taking advantage of the MCAT being waived. Good Luck!

Hey Everyone,

Just wanted to post my stats for all the people wondering their shot. I was just accepted and will be heading to Temple (insane clinic and city life is awesome). I applied to all, got an interview to all, went to Kent/Temple/DMU and Temple was the best option for me by far. Got accepted to all three and with a $15k merit to Kent, $14k merit to Temple, and $5k merit to DMU.

cGPA: 3.4
sGPA: 3.55
MCAT: 509 (128/126/129/126)
600+ hrs shadowing 3 different DPMs
500+ shadowing MD and DO
150+ hrs ER volunteer
Temple Summer Intern 2018
Microbio Research for senior project
Some other volunteering
In a fraternity and help raise thousands of dollars for cancer research every year.

ALSO not a shy and quiet person! I went to multiple interviews and this seemed to be an issue for a few people. We are planning a career where you talk to 50+ different people every single day and sometimes tell them serious and awful news. You cant be shy and antisocial, if so do the Ph.D route, you can help a lot of people there. The interview process for these schools is very laid back but if you cant talk well and dont connect with the people around you on a notable basis to the eyes of your interviewers and ambassadors, it will show in your interview. Especially if you have low stats, be VOCAL and happy to be there. Good luck everyone!
How did they respond to having a frat in your app? I am in a frat as well, but I'm not sure if I should include it.

Hey guys! So I got an interview invite for NYCPM, and will be interviewing there.

if anyone has read back, I don’t have the hottest stats, especially my GPA. I wanted to ask everyone for some advice on interview questions and what I could do to solidify my acceptance as much as possible. I did take a few classes this semester I did well in so that will provide some more strength in my case. But historically, as I’ve been seeing in the forums, NY’s interview with poor stat students tends to be more aggressive.

I really appreciate everyone’s input, you guys rock!

I know it's been forever but I'm so happy to write my ACCEPTANCE STATS! (I'm currently an MS-2)

GPA: 3.4
MCAT: waived bc of pandemic
College: PResident, SGA executive positions, Honors Thesis, 2 Research projects, one with a pending publication, multiple honor societies
Work/Clinic experience: 6,000+ hours of clinics, worked as a podiatry MA, scribe, and billing specialist, also shadowed Cardio and Trauma surgeon for 3 weeks abroad.

Hello everyone,
I'm hoping to apply this upcoming cycle for podiatry school, but I'm not sure if I'll get in with my mcat scores. Does anyone have any advice?
My stats:
MCAT: 488
cGPA: 3.5
sGPA: 3.3
volunteering/community service: 2,000+ hours and in array of things
clinical work: 70hrs
shadowing: due to covid I was able to shadow, but I finally found a podiatrist to shadow so hoping I can get in about 100+ hrs before the application opens in august

That MCAT is rough but your GPA might save you at NYCPM or Berry. I don’t think any other school would honestly give you a look. Any thought on retaking the MCAT? Standardized testing will be apart of the rest of your career if you go into medicine so you really need to improve your test taking skills.

Personally, I think your GPA and work experience will get you an interview somewhere but I am worried about your MCAT. It is not because that you won't get accepted anywhere but when you get into podiatry school, it will not get any easier, in terms of exams.

The MCAT is not an easy exam to deal with and I wasn't a fan of it either. It doesn't truly reflect of how you're going to do in podiatry school but however, you MUST have good studying methods to survive in podiatry school.

Work hard, don't slack off.

this is not the thread to ask for your chances....this is: What are my chances: WAMC Podiatry

But I agree with others, retake the MCAT and get that scholarship $$$ to max (since your GPAs are good). If you study for 2-3 months like a job you will score much better than a 488.

Thank you so much for the advice. I've actually taken it two times in which I received a 488. For some reason the MCAT keeps holding me back I have done fine in the past with standardized test. It's really discouraging taking the test again just to do bad.

Thank you so much for the advice. I agree MCAT is important and something that I'm also worried about. I've taken the MCAT twice and feel discouraged to take it again. I have done well in previous standardized test, but for some reason the MCAT keeps kicking my butt. I've done pretty well during my years in undergraduate and believe I can do well in podiatry school (if I get in).

Thank you for your advice, I greatly appreciate it. I've actually taken the MCAT twice and feel discouraged (it's not a good feeling working hard only to do bad again). I hope my experience and community service can get me in... I've worked really hard and even opened a non-profit organization. Hopefully they'll give me a chance to prove myself. Thank you!
