Hi everyone! I got a phone call then an email right after.

I'll be in Albuquerque New Mexico in the Tribal and Territorial Support (OSTLTS).

Is there anyone who will be located in this area? I am actually very nervous and extremely excited!

Can someone please help me network? I am not familiar with my area so I was wondering does anyone know a good place to look into apartments? Any advice? What to expect? I got the memo that orientation might be over Skype this year. Any information to prepare for this all will be greatly appreciated! Thank you.

For those of you who received an offer, did the status of your application on USA Jobs change?

P.S.: Congratulations on receiving an offer!

Congratulations to everyone, I am so nervous and my heart is beating. I will be so nervous until I hear from them. If you don't get selected, do you have a way of knowing or not.

Good luck to the rest of us awaiting a call.

Congratulations everybody! I'm excited for all of you and I haven't even applied! lol I just finished my 3rd year and I'm thinking about applying for PHAP during my senior year. Does anybody know how much experience they expect out of people who are applying during their last year in college? The only experience I have is working as an Envirnonmental Health intern for a year and working as a Health Academy assistant last summer. Any input would be appreciated!

No experience in PH is technically required. I know one guy who didn't know anything about public health but still applied and got in. However, what they DO expect is a person who is open-minded, flexible, and has professional maturity. Those 3 traits are good in any kind of job but especially this one I think. Good luck!!

I know two gals who are in NM right now at the state and one of them is living with the PHAP who used to work there and was hired by the state or local dept. They are a friendly bunch so you should be good if you're there :)

For those of you who got an offer, was the area code 404? Also, did they ask you to take a survey before informing you of your offer..?

I called the CDC and spoke to someone in general HR. The guy told me that our HR specialist is supposed to send us an email, with the onboarding link in it. Hopefully, they will email the link to us soon.
Thank you for this information. I hope they send the link soon.

My call came from GA and began with 770. Also, I did not get a survey but I believe they do those randomly. So I would not stress out about that.

This is a horrible waiting game, I wish we knew how many offers have already been made.

From what I can see in the 2015 forum, it looks like people were getting offers a good two weeks after the initial offers. So, don't put your life on hold. (Says the guy holding his finger over the answer button on his phone)

Just got the call. I got placed in New Orleans....ahhhh!! Soooo much to consider, but this is exciting. Congratulations to everyone.
I'm originally from New Orleans and it's AMAZING. Actually, the entire reason I first applied to PHAP is that while I was a college intern at the New Orleans Health Department, they had a PHAP Associate working to launch the Fit NOLA intiative and I thought their work seemed super cool! Think you'll accept?

I think it was better last year when I didn't know my offer was coming! PHAP actually called me last year while I was walking to happy hour with staff from my former office on my last day of AmeriCorps VISTA.... interesting timing! I believe my offer last year was on June 22nd, so previous advice about offers being extended over ~2 weeks should be correct.

o_O:eek: I've been checking my phone throughout this entire day! Waiting.... I don't even know what I did at work today. Lol

The wait is over!! I just recieved an email offer, no call. Im going to St.Petersburg,Floridia!!!!!!

Thank you! I was hoping someone that knows the area would respond. Which areas would be safe/inexpensive to live in? I'll be moving from the outskirts of Atalanta,ga

Downtown is an awesome area and pretty safe. Immediately south of of downtown isn't so great. South of Central Av, between central and the interstate, is a no go, you definitely want to avoid that area. Once you get a bit farther out you get back to regular south St. Pete and that's ok. The Sage is an apt complex down there that's pretty nice, I'm not sure of price though. If you are looking to rent, I suggest the "USF/HCC/UT Apartment- Roommate Request/Sublease" facebook page. It's mostly Tampa, listing but there are good St. pete ads too.

I saw some apartments on in north st. Petersburg that weren't priced badly, but I'm gonna try to get down there to check it out and see which areas i like. What about commuting from another area? Is the traffic bad?

I also just got an offer in Richmond, VA! Are you accepting? It's my second time being offered a place in the program so I'm highly considering it. I just know nothing about Richmond, so it's a big decision! I would be coming from Philadelphia, PA.

Also, did anyone else with an offer NOT receive a phone call? It was strange because I knew offers had been rolling out and just happened to see an email notification on my phone yesterday afternoon.... But no phone call. Oh well!

I'm still waiting.. :(
Has anyone that lives in the southeastern part of the country received an offer yet?

I have been following this thread for a while now! Congrats to everyone who has received an offer and I wish you all the best of luck! My anxiety has kicked in, as I have not yet received an offer. However, I'm keeping the FAITH and my fingers are crossed! See you all in October!

I would absolutely not suggest living in Tampa or Clearwater because of traffic. I don't where exactly you're going to be at, but if it's the health department downtown (the main one), I'm not sure what traffic would looking like from North St pete to south. I never had to do that commute during rush hour.

Congrats to everyone so far who's gotten an offer! Glad to hear they are going out and I will try to monitor this to network you guys with current locations if I know someone.

Just letting you know : this is going to be the worst few weeks of your life. Last year, I got my offer July 6th. I actually had given up and taken another contract job and the offer came while I was waiting for that to start so I could move.

Oh and I never got a phone call. :) just an email. Which was exciting but also terrifies me to this day that they're still just messing with me and it's all been a big misunderstanding.

You guys hold tight and put the phone somewhere else and try to stay busy!! Trust me, it will make you feel better.

Also, last year there were still offers going out in August. People change their mind or back out or don't meet requirements or deadlines and those spots go to alternates.

It's so hard though....thanks for the advice :)

I have been so distracted since Sunday. I just keep waiting to see a zip code 707 or 404 call, and I have been checking my email constantly.
