That's a tough one. You might post a new thread that residents/faculty would be more likely to read. I'm just an applicant so take my input with a grain of salt, but I would have to balance how many interviews Id be missing out on with the advantage of rotating at that program. I've usually heard that doing an away mainly helps you at that specific program, but not as much at other programs beyond showing the exposure you've had to the field. I would say if you cancel that away, depending on how much effort went in to getting it set up, they might be a little put off by it. But if you're going to miss out on quite a few interviews by doing the away, then you're decreasing your chances of matching which is the main goal..if it's a place that is your dream program and you'd only miss 1 or 2 interviews, I'd probably still do it. Do you have a home program/advisor you can ask about it?

Yea it is only a 2 weeker so wouldnt be too many interviews. But potentially 1-2. I suppose I can reach out and see what residents think. Just wanted to gather some thoughts from here.

This whole feeding frenzy interview invite method this year....is this the first time these programs are doing this? It really makes having a productive day of any sort pretty impossible. Can't drive anywhere, can't shower, can't chase Pokémon, can't be disconnected for a couple hours. Crazy.

2 weeks isn't that long at all, and you'd probably have the last weekend off too, which really makes it like 12 days you wouldn't be able to interview. I feel like that's an acceptable tradeoff if it's a program you really like. If it was a full month rotation, I'd actually be kinda put off at their lack of understanding that you need to get to interviews.

For only 2 weeks and missing 1-2 interviews, yea Id still do the away, especially if it's a program you really like. I can understand why they wouldn't want to give you time off if they only have you there for 2 weeks. Most interviews are a 2 day commitment so that's already 1/5 your time :/

I would still do it. They know this is interview season. If you can try to schedule Mon interviews (if possible) so you don't miss an extra day. However, if the audition has didactics for the residents then absolutely DO NOT miss these days no matter what. If you only missed 2/10 days then you are solid. (I say 10 days because you likely are not required to do weekends on PM&R auditions.)

Nope, nothing yet. Is there an "industry standard," so to speak, out there for this kind of thing? I haven't really found one on the threads. I've waited up to 3 weeks for a PM&R confirmation and 1 week for a prelim. Pretty sure I saw last year some people hadn't heard in over a month and were allegedly heading to the interview within days and still hadn't really heard anything. I've taken the arbitrary approach of 1 week before I send an inquisitive email. How about you guys?

Speaking of which- anyone hear back from Schwab? The anticipation of a conformation is compounded when you know they sent out more invites then slots.

I heard back today as well and I think I sent my date request in like 5 min after the email came.

On another note, is anyone heading down to NOLA for the AAPM&R Annual Assembly? For those that have been before, are a lot of programs represented at the residency fair?

Welp, didn't hear from Schwab today when I replied within the hour...awesome. Guess I'll be making love to my wife like this from now on.

They are full. This is the 6th time I didn't get an interview bc they filled up before I could reply. I may not be doing PM&R after all...

Sorry to hear that. It is my second. It really really sucks. Keep your head up its still early!

If you aren't using text alerts I would take a look at this and start doing so. These instructions are only for outlook but allows me to get a text message everytime anythjng with the word "interview" hits my mailbox.

Thanks for the info. I have Puffin, but honestly the situation is absurd. They should be using ERAS scheduler if they want to do this "feeding frenzy" style pan invite thing they are doing. That way at least applicants can see whats going on in real time. Regardless, the inability to be away from email for even a few minutes without the fear of missing an opportunity is borderline unhealthy and honestly unavoidable for most folks.

thanks for the info... just got puffin. Atleast I have a couple of interviews. If you rotate at a program, do they always give you a courtesy interview or do they only interview you if they think you may be a future resident at their program? Just curious

I know some surgery specialty folks who did aways w/o invites, but haven't heard of that happening in rehab.

Sorry to hear that. It is my second. It really really sucks. Keep your head up its still early!

Yep. It sucks. The system is definitely not made to the benefit of the applicant. But at least you didn't have to experience the opening day feeding frenzy that has historically taken place.

I like the structure of the modern day scramble (SOAP). Why can't that be duplicated for interview season? There are lots of scheduling programs that work really well. UT Austin uses a program that works just fine.

so looking at the most recent interview dates posted it seems 55 programs have sent out interviews. So does that mean about 25 programs are left?

Scroll to the bottom of the "Interview Offers" tab, everything is there

Knowing what time interviews finish would be INCREDIBLY helpful in booking flights, etc.
Can we make this a column in the spreadsheet?
On a similar note- can anyone tell me when Kessler interview day wraps up? :)

Is this interview invite data from 2015 or 2016? The labeled column says 2015 and some interview offers listed here do not appear in the carried list on the posts in this group (ex. Ucolorado, Stanford, etc)

The 2015 column is for reference, which was useful early on when no one was hearing anything. That's also why edits are locked there, as it's last years data. If you look at NYU, NYPresby, and Stanford, last year they didn't invite until the middle of the month, and that seems to be the case this year as well.

If a school isn't there and it is in this thread, it just hasn't been added, or vice-versa. Thus far, the spreadsheet has been more accurate and up to date.

Done :)

Any thoughts on whether UWash is done sending out invites? I'm a very strong applicant on paper but missed out on the second wave on 10/10.

It seems like since they have already sent out rejections too that you will at least find out either way. It makes no sense where I have and haven't gotten interviews so I can't comment on your chances. I did not apply to Washington anyways. I'm probably going to start contacting 1 or 2 places next week that I haven't heard from. It's stressful and I've definitely beaten myself up at times wondering why I haven't gotten an interview at a place I seem more than qualified for on paper. If I've learned anything so far during this time it's that this field really doesn't seem to hold consistent with top scores getting all the "top" interviews. And likewise that if you don't have awesome scores it won't keep you from getting good interviews. Also reassuring to read all the old comments about how the classic "top six" programs sometimes don't even really knock people's socks off and they find they be happier at less intense places.

Anyways, hang in there! We can't really change anything at this point anyways lol

Definitely a great question for the general PMR forum, you should post there.

A good place for basic information and stats is charting outcomes

http://www.nrmp.org/wp-content/uploads/2016/09/Charting-Outcomes-IMGs-2016.pdf

That's for IMGs. It has characteristics of matched and unmatched candidates.

Odd..just got an email from NRH/med star saying they got my app and would let me know decision by December 15 lol. No indication of rejection/wait list but I'm going to assume it's a soft rejection haha
