Obviously it is better if our leadership cuts or at least maintains current no of spots but thats not happening, so I think this is the next best solution. Whats the alternative you propose? Let no. of graduating residents increase every year?
This is what happened in radiology, the percentage of AMG applicants went down and the field got a lot less competitive and the leadership was forced to reckon with the reality that they had too many trainees and now I blieve they are decreasing no of slots. Plus on a more selfish note, it would be easier for all of us graduating to get jobs if we had to compete against FMGs rather than top med students from US schools.
