I'm down to meet everyone for some Cinco de Mayo fun...I'll see you all at Acapulco's...we should definitely let the hostess or whoever know that if anyone comes in from UCLA, to direct them to the "UCLA" group just to make things easier on us all. I'll be staying in the Tiverton House with an unknown roommate, just for your info. See you soon!!!!!!!

sweet. for us non California people.... where is Acapulco's??? I'm staying at Tiverton so I guess if there's a crowd over there we should just all meet up tomorrow night and head over?

Acapulco's is right in Westwood, so just do a search for it on Google Local or Yahoo Yellow Pages and you'll be fine. I would also suggest to tell them something more specific about your group, since there will probably be a dozen different UCLA groups there.

Damn I wish I was gonna be there guys...have a blast!

I hope everybody has a GREAT time at recruitment day! I know that I had a blast. I'm sorry that I can't make it --- we had finals from Monday to Wednesday, and now I'm taking care of some business at home.

I just sent PM's to drborisca; rebs; worlddoctor; rosiemary; freewater about Friday. PM me if anyone else wants to be included

I'm good to go. Flying in today, going to Drew in the afternoon, then Geffen on Saturday, followed by brunch on Sunday...

This should be a great weekend! I look forward to meeting all/some of you, although I'm not sure how I'm supposed to recognize you kids...

I would say a rose between your teeth would be appropriate, or maybe a purple carnation inside a closed version of Complications by Atul Gawande sitting on the left, far edge of the table? Haha.

I'm the weird looking guy with 1 eye in the middle of my forehead.

what do you all plan on wearing to the recruitment day? is it formal/semi-formal?

From the pics of last year's, it looks semiformal. Probably slacks and oxford shirt for me.

Guys I had sooooo much fun at recruitment day!!!!!!!!!!! I'm so stoked I finally got to meet (and get nice and drunk with) all of you. Can't wait to move into our new digs at Weyburn and see everyone again at orientation! :D

anyone want to give a quick run-down of what happened at recruitment day for those of us who couldn't make it?

for any of you still concerned about housing:

we have a large 2 bedroom 2 bathroom apartment available right across from UCLA and want only UCLA studentdoctors; you won't need a car! We rented a studio yesterday to one of your colleagues. please contact us at [email protected] or call 310.824.0523. We might possibly have a 2nd studio available, also.

Both available starting July 1.

Wow man, lets just say Sunday was a little bit of a struggle. I'm just not sure if I blame you or Mr. Jager more.

But seriously I had good time with all of you (DrBoris, Rosiemary, Bluntman, WhiteRussian, Elastase, Freewater - I figure I'll use your fake names on here still). However, it is still all of your fault that I spent so much money at Gotham.

Sorry waterlily, sometimes its hard to correlate the SDN names and real names at the same time. So I take it no dice on Pittsburgh?

Nice! I'm also leaning more towards LA...I'm hoping that other school doesn't hook up the financial aid to make my decision much easier.

Good times this weekend. I heard that bluntman and rebs had a REAL great time at gotham, I wish I could have stayed longer but I had to drive back.

Seriously though, UCLA is f*cking awesome, a.k.a hella tight. I was impressed by Geffen and Drew.

woot!
I had a great time too ! I met so many amazing people (including Dr. Boris at the sunday brunch). I'm glad I get to be a part of such a great class.

I had a great time meeting everyone too! You guys are so much fun! Whoever is planning to move here earlier in the summer let me and DrBoris know so we can plan a night out in Hollywood!

Good deal man. Yeah I was definitley feeling the effects of Gotham at the Sunday brunch. Just think though, City of Angels vs Palo Alto. Keep that in mind.

As long as we can go to buck-fifty afterwards.

Well, I am now breaking my vow to take a break from SDN, now that I have met almost all of you. The undertow is much too strong! I had so much fun this weekend, it gives me comfort to know that everyone is a social creature and not a serious gunner premed that Ive been so used to! Shoutout to my peeps (also gonna stick with SDN aliases) : rebs, rosiemary, blunt, redorkulated, elastase, freewater, whiterussian and waterlily!!!

Back to business: When do we hear back from Weyburn?

I asked the woman that gave us the tour--she said we would most likely get our housing offers sometime before June.

So the blog guy wrote about me and Rebs! awww how awesome, we're famous in his blog now haha. And he likes us! Even cooler :D Okay anyways, you can check it out here http://ahyesmedschool.blogspot.com/ btw, thanks whiterussian for initially posting his blog on here

Thanks for reposting that waterlily, I tried looking for it earlier...

I read most of the first page, but then I started to skim it again...this blog just isn't for me...

 That was awesome...I love Jager shots! I was quite the hungover traveler on Sunday. Kinda bummed I had to miss out on the bunch with all you guys...but now that I think about it...even if I didn't have a plane to catch, I doubt I would've been capable of making it to the brunch after our fun the night before!

Waterlily...It was good to see you again. :) Glad your roomie didn't die...that would've sucked. I'm so happy you're leaning towards UCLA...you're a great girl and you know we're all gonna have a blast.

And in case you (or any of you others who have acceptances outstanding) get any second thoughts...it's too late...I already called all of your other schools and told them you're all raging dope fiends. So that's it, you're all coming to UCLA!

Hey guys this is from the Weyburn page

Please do not bring the following items as they are not allowed in the apartments:

*
Barbecues
*
Waterbeds
*
Queen-size or larger beds
*
Loft kits
*
Washing machines or clothes dryers
*
Any pets or other animals. "Service Animals" are accommodated.

Does anyone know how strict they are in enforcing these rules? I think I'm just gonna bring my queen-sized bed anyway... even if i'm going to have to put it in the living room

anyone want to give a short synopsis on what happened for recruitment day?

It was also the first opportunity for wannnabe gunners to showoff

But anyway the food was good and it was another good time to talk with your future classmates

Awesome, thanks Whiterussian!

Did they say when they were going to update their website with the school year calendar and other stuff?

Nice synopsis WhiteRussian! He summed it up pretty good...I'm still rockin' my UCLA man-purse...actually I just gave it to my momz.

Other comments:

Our PBL guy (maybe waterlily can confirm this, but it could just be me) was kind of a wack job. PBL is defintiely cool, but I'm not sure I would like being facilitated by this guy.

The curriculum description was amazingly boring...nobody wants to sit in on a lecture about stuff you can read about on your own time (which I'm guessing most ppl have).

Food was pretty good.

I wish I had time to talk to more med students, but I guess the MS1s were on break, and MS2s were studying for Step 1.

Anyone know how easy/hard it is to sneak a kitty into Weyburn Terrace? I had heard of some students doing this during my interview.

Also, in regards to the posting on bed-size and Weyburn, I too, plan to bring my Queen size bed. I guess I might just throw in my bbq, coffee maker, hot coils, candles, etc. :)

Seriously, though, if anyone's had the chance to see the Weyburn studios, how big are they? Room for a couch in the living area?

Just thought I'd bump this guy back to the top for any of you new guys. Just add your sdn name, real name, hometown, and undergrad to the list if you're coming to UCLA for sure!

1. Kathy aka. DrBorisCA - From L.A., Undergrad UCLA
2. Rosemary aka. rosiemary - Pico Rivera, CA. Undergrad Stanford University
3. Andrew aka. MrAndrew47 - France/Kobe, Japan/Orange County, CA - Undergrad @ UCI!
4. Mike aka Elastase - Bay Area, Undergrad: UCBerkeley*
5. G3 aka. Gee!Golly!Gosh! - From around town
6. infiniti- from around town, but currently in chicago. Not 100%, but UCLA is looking very good.
7. John (Bluntman) - From OC, undergrad at UC San Diego
8. Greta aka Freewater- undergrad UC San Diego, currently living in Seattle
9. doc_doc_goose! - L.A. Undergrad in Boston
10. Jeff aka. WhiteRussian - From San Diego, undergrad at Wash U

The studio is pretty small. I highly doubt a queen would fit with still enough room to walk on one side to get in your closet. The student's room I saw had a full/double bed and it was already pretty tight. A couch will fit, but only a modest love seat (2 person).

I second that, you should definitely stick to a twin if you want to have any space for anything else (i.e. desk, etc.)

Thanks a lot, Bluntman! Maybe I'll rethink the bed. As for the cat, however, he can hopefully stick with me... Do you have any inside info on the feasibility of bringing him into Weyburn?

I don't have any inside info, but I imagine it'll be just like any other apartment complex that doesn't allow cats: As long as the management doesn't notice, and it doesn't bother your neighbors, then nobody will care.

I see a girl who lives in Weyburn walking her dog (little). I assume the dog lives in Weyburn --- but you didn't hear that from me. ;)

Yeah I checked the measurements of the studio appt, a queen size won't fit in the bed area (short about a foot). I'll have to use part of the living room. But that's still better than spending a couple of hundred on another bed. I just hope the RA won't go around inspecting people's rooms

On of the students told me that they had a friend who snuck in a cat, so it can be done. Go for a double rather than a twin, a double is an 15 inches wider than a twin. A queen would probably be too big
