I was reading in last year's thread about how some people got interview invites pre-secondary if their GPA/MCAT met certain cutoff points, and that these people also had turned in their LORs early (before receiving their interview invite). Anyone know anything more about this? Should I just send in my LORs now?

Last year more than halfway through the secondary process, they changed the secondary that they were sending out to applicants. When i received my secondary, I was shocked that there was no essay and or real questions to answer. Pretty much send your money and fill out the form, and wait for a reply. So that pretty much told me that they were inviting people to interview based on the primary only, as they were not getting any new info from the secondary.

It was actaully kinda funny, because I applied a little late, and I got the nice and easy secondary, and during the interview, there were people who had written essays in their secondaries. Some of them were thinking they should have applied later just because of that, but I dont know what their process will be this year.

Besides the cost of the secondary, (either 100 or 150) the process was quite pleasant with touro and the staff is super helpful.

LOL. Is writing an essay that is usually capped at 500 words (or one page or 1,500 characters for other schools) really that hard? Maybe I'm not putting in enough effort on my essays?

Doesn't sound like it. None have popped up in the Secondaries thread either. I'd guess we're looking toward the end of July before its out. Last year they started giving out interviews before the secondary was out

I applied September 29 and got the secondary november 30th. During the interview i asked about it just out of curiosity and Oscar explained it to me.

I was invited for interview on 11/5 so I guess I was just before they changed the secondary haha we'll see what it turns out to be this year. Touro-Ca changed their question. Wonder what NV will do

I applied February 6, had no letter to write.

And yes, writing a 500 word letter is so freaking hard when your trying to show off and sell yourself about how good u r in 500 words or less. Easier said than done? Always think "what thought do I wanna leave them with when they finish reading this"

This is why I always put the most effort into my closing of every essay. If your essay is solid (but not spectacular) but has a great closing that shows your drive, passion and commitment in my opinion its better than having a great essay that fizzles out in the end, regardless of content. I have 3-5 closings that I have been using in most of my essays that have worked well. Also I have a format I've been using for the "why XYZ" questions that's been working. Hopefully its successful, I just need at least 1 acceptance! lol

I believe Touro does not begin reviewing applicants until August so you may not get a secondary until then. Also be prepared to have official transcripts sent with your secondary!

That is correct. First batch of secondaries will be givin out between mid aug and sept

Just faxed everything in and then called and they have received. Do we need to send official transcripts or is it just the supplemental and letters?

EDIT: called and asked, transcripts were required last year. They did away with that requirement this year. Once you send your secondary and letters you are done.

just received my secondary as well...in the email it says we have to do letters from 2 science profs, but CIB says committee letter is ok instead. anybody know which one is accurate?

1) For those of you who received the secondary, did you guys type or hand-write?
2) For the responsibilities portion of the experiences section, how can you fit in all the responsibilities in such a small space?
3) For the LOR section, the email said to list 3 LORs, but on the form it only asks for 2 LORs?

1. Hand written but I've got neat writing anyway. The e-mail said hand write

2. I wrote see attached and included my CV in the application, which I was going to send anyway. There is no way to fit it in there. Plus it says you can attach extra pages.

I'd fax it in the morning so you can call and confirm that it gets there. I don't trust putting my CC # on a piece of paper and sending it without being able to confirm it got to the right location

I did add them later though and it wasn't received until June 17, but that's still relatively early.

Now I know that TOUCOM isn't the only school that does this by any means but after doing about 15 of these secondaries, I wonder whether they even look closely at our applications at all. I mean, half the questions are already on the primary so why in the hell would they ask the same damn question twice? And its not even a small thing like mailing address or undergrad institution, its usally like "LIST ALL HEALTH CARE EXPERIENCES, DATES, TOTAL HOURS, ETC." I mean, this already been answered on the primary.

Finally!! Just received the secondary.

I think they really didn't like that I haven't completed all my prereqs yet - "Deficient Credits" was the title of the email.

I'm going to try to mail this tomorrow.

Most schools only accepts scores from past 3 years. So if you took the mcat anytime b4 aug 2007 then ur already past 3 years..

Does anyone know if for the references sections I can just write undergrad committee packet. Im just afraid that if I write out the individual writers Touro will be waiting for these letters not realizing that all my letters are contained within my committee packet.

I took it aug 2007. I just really don't want to have to take it again. I'm glad that there are some schools that will accept it.

How can you be deficient only .6 credits? And what are you deficient in?

I have to take Physics 2 and Biochem (sub for Org 2) this year, which they noted, but I guess I was lucky they didn't make a fuss about only having 6 English credits instead of 8. They must have decided either 2 courses was enough or some of my other courses met the requirement.

Ah yes, forgot about those on quarter hours.

It sounds like this year you don't have to send the transcripts. They did that last year but changed it for this year.

For anyone who has lived in the Las Vegas area or is currently attending Touro-NV I was wondering what it is like living there with the summer weather being so hot. It seems like every day for the past month has been over a 100 degrees.

It's a desert, no two ways about that. So, it's going to be hot as hell during the summer, nice during most of the winter days and cool to cold most of the winter nights. I've never lived in NV, but I lived a AZ for a couple years and I would say the climates are somewhat comparable, but AZ is hotter.

On the bright side, you have free booze a few minutes from the campus. If you play the quarter slots in a casino you get free drinks. Nothing like a cheap night out after an exam... or before an exam...

At least it's dry 100. Here in north Texas we have had almost a month of 100+ degree heat with humidity.
