Sports Medicine 2023-2024

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Here is a similar/different set of data for 2018 https://www.nrmp.org/wp-content/uploads/2021/08/2018-Charting-Outcomes-SMS.pdf . A few years older but provides some additional insights that the first data set doesn't have. For anyone who doesn't want to comb all the pages here are a few screenshots from the data and highlights:
1- 33% of people matched their top choice and about 60% matched top 3 (2023 data)
2- Step scores did not seem to be a great predictive factor for matching (2018 data)
3- The average matched applicant had 4.5 contiguous ranks (3 for unmatched)

For the probability chart of ranks/matching that is also 2018 data but I'd imagine still hold relatively accurate

PDs are really busy people. Keep it short, don't brown nose or you are more likely to annoy them than help out your app. Maybe 3-4 sentences if you are going to send it at all, I don't think this would dramatically influence things at most programs. Often rank lists get finalized very soon after interviews conclude (at mine it is the day after so it is fresh). All the faculty agree on it so anything after your post-interview thanks is a moot point.
I agree with all of the above. We finalized our rank list the first week of November so any "LOI" at this point will really not influence anything. It's a nice gesture though!
