My school of acceptance is having a visitation day, which includes a student and faculty Q&A panel. Current students and faculty, what questions do you wish students asked and what do you wish you would have asked?

Question that I wish a student *didn't* ask: student to prof ratio. Doesn't matter in vet school.

Speaking as a tour coordinator and assistant for interview day, there aren't many questions that didn't get asked or answered that I can think of. Maybe what the attrition rates is and what happens when a student fails out; each school has a different protocol. The majority of schools have a <5% attrition rate; but I think it's important to keep the schools honest about it. Like # or % of students that 1) repeat a term/year and 2) # or % that are dismissed permanently for academics.

I also think it's super important that people ask questions about the curriculum and understand what it entails. My school partially sold themselves on their "reversed classroom" model in which students do the majority of their learning on their own and then come into class and discuss cases, but they never really explained what "reversed classroom" actually meant (in terms of workload, actual logistics) and a lot of my classmates seemed surprised that they had to teach themselves much of the material when they got there.

Great advice thank you.

1. Is there presence of a mental health counselor in the facility was really important to me and has been so helpful to me and many of my classmates!
2. Whether or not lectures are recorded.
3. Dress code and attendance policy.
4. There being a way to review professors and courses also was very important to me so they could be improved for the better.

1. What mental health resources are available. Counselors, online telehealth appointments, etc.
2. Where do most students live, where is it most affordable, what areas are unsafe, etc.
3. Favorite clubs to join
4. What educational resources are available. Tutors, learning specialists, etc. I didn't even know what a learning specialist was before starting school and if it wasn't for her teaching me how to study, my ADHD would've probably made me fail out a while ago lol

Edit: another question that doesn't matter- asking what the student culture is like. It's highly dependent on the specific people who end up in your class. Up to you to find your people and make the most of it
