Hi,
Can someone please tell me why they picked plastics over general surgery and vica versa? What is the scope of what you can do as a plastic surgeon in the hospital (not private practice) setting?
thanks!

i know somebody must have been in this situation! I'd really appreciate it if you would let me know what made your decision between the two specialties..

too many reasons to list. basically it depends on what you like to do on the or and manage in clinic. go hang out with mathes, mcgrath or any of the other staff at ucsf and you'll get an idea of your likes and dislikes for GS vs. PS

Really comes down to what kinds of operations/procedures you like to do. Frankly, in general my favorite part of an operation is the opening and closing; I like to handle skin and soft tissues. I find the cases more interesting than general abdominal ones often found in gen surg.
