Hey! Saw that these had been asked about

Program: Children's Memorial in Chicago
Date Offered: around October 27 via phone call
Interview Offered: December 16-17

Program: UAB
Date invited: also around October 27 via phone call
Date Offered: Nov 18. I couldn't go this date and they actually called me today with a second date which is December 10.

Does anyone know if Baylor has extended all their interviews?

Hi everyone,

I am wondering if it is true that later interview dates are better than the earlier ones. One of the schools I am going for an interview is offering three dates (Dec 3, 10, 17). I will be in the same town on Dec 6 for another interview, so was wondering if I should just pick Dec 3 to make my travel arrangements easy, or if it's worth it make a second travel plan for a later interview date.

Let me know what you think!

Thanks,
S

I'd say pick whatever is better for your schedule...because nobody really knows how or why programs select one candidate over another...there are so many factors, what if the director is having a bad day and that day falls on the 17th..then you could say you'll have a better shot interviewing on the 10th or 3rd

I spoke to someone over there and they will be sending out invitations this week :xf:

UAB is a great program. Best of luck :)

Has anyone heard anything about the Maryland program? Positives and/or negatives?

Understand they gave out acceptances into this program since they are non-match.

After a handful of interviews, which I finished last week, I decided on Temple Episcopal to be my #1. Anyone else interview there and what were your thoughts...I saw very few negatives, soo many positives. Am I missing something or for the ones who interviewed there, what were your thoughts. Thanks

Congrats on making such a difficult decision!!! I also interviewed at Temple, and did pick up on a few negatives, though overall I think it is a great program. Because they are not closely associated with a children's hospital, they have very few interactions with medically complex children. They're not being called in for consults for oncology patients, cardiac patients, so on and so forth. They are also not treating these individuals in the dental chair (at least not nearly as often as the other programs I have seen), and may be unsure of what labs to order and how to consult with a physician when they are asked to treat them in private practice. When I'm a specialist, I know that I want to be the authority on treating "difficult" cases, and I want to get as much experience with that as I can in residency. But, from the point of treating healthy kids with behavior management issues, I think Temple is top-notch. You're not going to see more patients anywhere else. So it all depends on what you want to be comfortable with coming out of residency and finally being on your own. No program is perfect unfortunately, but Temple doesn't seem to be far off!

I noticed that the special needs, in a sense of oncology and other patients was lower then I would have liked, that is something I feel you won't ever see everything out there in 2 years. Syndromes and crazy will likely come into your office and you just need to look up what the syndrome is, what to worry about and pick up the phone and call the MD if you have concern. I agree with you that they lack this somewhat, but I am looking forward to the sedation aspect and seeing tons of patients. Best of luck, tell me if you rank them high at Temple.

any tips on the temple interview? i hear they ask technical questions?

thanks!

Does anyone know how many applicants University of Maryland is interviewing? They have a LOT of dates. I hate to waste my time if they are interviewing 80 people for 4 spots.

I think they will be deciding soon, I got a phone call from my Mentor said they are checking my references after I interviewed and sound interested :xf:

It would be a tough decision! risk the match or take a pre-match...My first choices are in NYC..where did you guys interview? I did Holyoke 11/4 and Tucson on 12/6

@ Civic. Holyoke 11/2. I agree it will be a tough choice. We maybe in the same situation.

Hey everyone!

Did you all send thank you notes/emails to the programs that you interviewed at?

So today marks the first time the ROLIC system is available to enter match list or withdraw. Good luck to everyone!! :D

And to answer someone's question, I did send thank you letters to all the programs I interviewed.

Because I decided to apply late, there were only two programs still available (MetroHealth in Ohio & Children's Hosital in Michigan). The program deadline was Dec 15/10. I still haven't heard anything from either programs. The MATCH deadline is Jan 14/11. Is it naive of me to still have hope? Has anyone heard from either of these programs or interviewed there already?

I seriously doubt that you'll hear anything at this point. I did apply to Metro and they sent me a letter stating that they had reviewed my application and I was not selected for an interview and they might have mentioned they filled their interview spots already. No clue on the other program. I guess there's always next year, but hopefully you can apply earlier for you next time around.

It's naive, you won't hear anything positive (if you hear anything at all). Apply early next year.

Anybody else having a hard time with this ranking thing? I've got a good idea of my top half and bottom half but can't seem to get them into a concise order! I know this is finally the time where we should balance program with lifestyle/location, as opposed to dental school when the mentality is just "get in somewhere so that you can become a dentist" but that whole aspect is throwing me off haha.
any suggestions, tips, tricks?

I know you won't like my answer, but it's 100% true. Reputation doesn't matter. Training does matter, to an extent, but all programs will immerse you in the things you need to know to be successful. It's up to you to learn those things, however. In a very real sense you'll get out of residency what you put into it.

For example, I did literally 4 oral sedations in my program (brand new program). Some might say that would make me afraid to do them in practice, or that I wouldn't know what I was doing. In private practice I do 4-5 oral sedations each day, and have since I graduated. To me not doing hundreds of them didn't matter. I did do over 80 general anesthesia cases, which helped tremendously. So reputation doesn't matter and most lack of training can be overcome by hard work and dedication. Remember that all programs have minimum training requirements (but some are obviously better than others.)

To your question: I'd skip schools that require tuition. BU charges a zillion dollars and accepts a zillion residents.

Hi Pearlywhite! I was wondering the same thing as you...ItsGavin gave pretty good advice...skip tuition and "reputation doesn't matter and most lack of training can be overcome by hard work and dedication" with that being said I'm going to rank based on wherever I feel I fit in and will be able to spend two years...afterall residency will be what you make of it. But I will be happy matching anywhere!!

Hello Everyone,
Does anyone have any info as to whether the pre-match positions have been assigned. I Think Nova is done but has anyone heard from the Lutheran Programs or Staten Island?
Thanks

This is my first post, I got a call today for an interview at Metrohealth/Cleveland, does anyone know any information about this program?

The program director is very nice and the program is hospital based, so less didactic and a lot more clinical. Feel free to send me a private message. Good luck

Stewie1- Hi Stewie, have you been there before, what do you think about the program? Do you know how the interview process will be like? What kind of candidates are they looking for? I can't seem to find too much information about this program, I just want to be prepared for the interview next week. Any info will greatly appreciated, thanks!

I got accepted to Lutheran pre-match massachusetts on the 16th too! But I did not accept. LovaMaui, you took the position?

Hey teethteethtooth,

Thanks for letting me know about your interview. I haven't heard anything from MetroHealth. It's nice to know that they are still looking, but I think it's too late for this year. Good luck.

Well this is it, last day to enter your rank order list. It has been so nice talking about the process with others who completely understand! Good luck to everyone! :luck::xf::luck:
PS I hope we will all post on the results page! I would love to see where everyone ends up. Also I know I valued the previous year posts with stats.:D
