I am trying to understand this list, from all the posts here , just randomly picked you to ask as you’re the most recent one. Is that a list of places you have interviews from ? Why are some places on both the interview and rejection list ?

It’s a list of all the places that have sent out interviews/rejections. Everyone adds interviews or rejections that they get to the list. It doesn’t mean someone has interviews at every single one of those places, you’ll also see multiple rounds of interviews being sent out, which is why for example MUSC is listed as 8/3, 8/4, 8/23

OMG ! That totally makes sense, I couldn’t imagine how can someone do 45 interviews. My program is putting a cap on the number of interviews to 16, but i don’t even have to worry about that as i have only reached 50 % of it and the interview period os close to over( invitations i mean)

Have people been getting second rounds of invites? At this point I'm assuming that no news is bad news. What is the general consensus on # programs needed to match with virtual interviews? I'm not feeling great about my chances and probably should look into contingency planning. Thanks for any advice.

I have the same thoughts and feelings. Very few invites (8) and not expecting anything anymore as August is over. What matters is total number of positions ranked when it comes to matching, so having interviews at bigger programs helps.

Just got the invite this afternoon but don't see the option to schedule on ERAS, anyone having the same issue?
It just opened up for me today after I emailed the coordinator yesterday accepting.

Are the interview invites now completely over ? Doesn’t seem like there’s anything such as a second wave due to cancellations or whatever.

How do programs invite , do they have a cap in terms of the number of applicants they interview? It seems they do as it sounds from the rejection emails. So does that mean that poor quality programs like Sinai for eg. etc invite many more applicants than say Boston or Texas ?

Lol also anyone heard from Advocate? I think aside from Lurie, they're the only other Chicago program in this year?

My guess is that programs roughly know how many applicants they need to interview to ensure that they get ranked enough to fill their spots. So some programs may know that they typically don't do further down their rank list than say #20 and thus maybe they decide they only interview 40 people. Whereas other programs maybe they typically go all the way down to #50 on their rank list for the applicants that they get, and if that's the case maybe they need to interview 80 applicants or something. These are all hypothetical scenarios and numbers. And it also depends if a program is only filling 1 spot or 8 spots. But I believe that for the most part programs have caps on how many interviews that they can do, which makes sense with having to get faculty available to interview people and things. I think virtual interviewing has changed some of this up a bit though, at least based on the residency matches last March from what I heard. Hope this helps answer your questions!

how many programs is everyone interviewing at?

Does anyone know what times the Mt Sinai interviews are scheduled for?
Mine were through the afternoon session. It was a waste of time lol The program doesn’t seem to have changed much after not matching any spots last year.

Lol I feel very ignorant asking, but what are the problems with the program? Am I missing something? Sorry, I tried looking online, but are there big red flags? (No surgeon etc?)

Lol I feel very ignorant asking, but what are the problems with the program? Am I missing something? Sorry, I tried looking online, but are there big red flags? (No surgeon etc?)
No surgeon; low volume , plus i have heard there are certain attendings who weren’t nice at all to fellows. They didn’t match any of their spots through NRMP last year.

How in the world can you have a peds cardiology fellowship without a surgeon?????
Programs like these have a history of multiple surgeons coming and leaving in a short term, Montefiore also didn’t have a surgeon for a while and these programs send their fellows to ICU elsewhere for experience. That’s why they rank low.

I thought Mt Sinai has 2 surgeons now? Anybody know how the Arkansas program is?

They now have two ; one is still recent. The surgical volumes are always really low because or having NYU ; Columbia in the backyard and Columbia is a strong reputed place pulling all the cases, as Sinai has a non existent kind of transplant program.

Anyway , have you guys sent post interview thanks etc to program or is it considered as misconduct? I never sent anything to anyone of them.

what factors determine everyone's rank list? Just curious, as I need to make mine!

Struggling with this too! It's been a mix of location, program reputation and interview experience for me - would love to hear what others are doing

Would anyone be interested in sharing interview experiences good or bad? Having a hard time differentiating places w virtual interviews..

1) OR cases per year
2) well rounded training (where would I go for heart failure/transplant, fetal echo, etc).
3) support for fellows (call schedule, are there residents covering the floor patients, NPs to do discharge planning, etc)
4) location
5) how did the interview go/would I get along with these people
