Ortho 2010

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
yeah but if you get into BU, you'll have to put up with those loser residents who got in through "unconventional" means. believe me, your co-residents will affect the quality of your residency experience just as much (if not more) than your faculty. i'd wait 2 years for the rest of these "legacy" residents to get phased out before I started recommending anyone apply to this program.

Jone,

do you know personally these current legacy residents from BU?
Are they really a pain to work with?
thanks.

UMDNJ will be holding half day interviews (breakfast / lunch included) Friday October 23 and Monday October 26th, dinner the night before each day. Interview invitations will be sent by email on or about October 1st (depending on how slowly I can read through 250 personal statements...).

There appear to be a record number of well qualified applicants this year, good luck to everyone!

doest it really matter when do the applicant submits the application. If we apply just near the deadline, does the application gets due consideration?
thanks.

I've been lurking too!

Thanks everyone for contributing. I love hearing about interviews but at the same time, this thread makes me so anxious. So far, I haven't received any news.

I'm sure a lot of you are overly qualified, and it just boggles my mind how the committee chooses who to interview. I just hope it's not "eeny, meeny, miny, moe" or "first-come, first-serve" kind of thing.

Good luck everyone.

Sorry- that's probably correct. I talked to one of the residents and I thought she said the 3rd and 10th, but I may have been mistaken...

If interviews were sent by email and but an applicant didn't receive one, than it is safe to assume that your application was rejected? Do schools do more than one round of interview invitations?

Usually, a program will allot a certain number of interview spots on selected days and will contact all selected candidates to fill these spots. In the beginning of the cycle, most candidates will accept. Toward the middle to latter part of the cycle, candidates may encounter interview overlap where some may have to cancel their interviews in preference of the preferred program. This is when programs may contact one or two additional applicants from their list of applicants to fill the spots.

So UIC already send their invites??

Are rejections via postal or email?
I'm sorry to hear that melonbobo. At least you don't have to keep on wondering. I haven't heard anything yet. Waiting is not fun at all.

I agree that the waiting game is the worst! :scared: Hopefully there will be some news soon!

Did anybody hear from VCU program??

I doubt it... their application deadline was Sept 15th. I think next week would be the earliest they'd reasonably be able to send out invites.

For Ohio State, the website says there's no tuition and they pay stipend too. Does anybody know if this apply to out of state students too? It just sounds so good~ I was just curious why they can do that, while most other ortho programs have high tuitions and no stipend.

Several programs do that... Not a lot, but definitely more than just Ohio State. LSU, VCU, Minnesota are the three I know. UMKC too maybe?

I called columbia University and they said they have not sent out the invites yet and they are reviewing still!

In reply to Mahya:
They are probably in the process of reviewing applications and inviting applicants for an interview. I did receive an invitation via email and confirmed my interview date. Good luck! :)

I got an phone call from UAB today for interview. Same dates as above. I didn't get an invite the first round. I guess somebody declined the offer and they pulled me off the list? Good luck everyone.

Who else is applying to Ortho? It has been helpful in the past for those applying to post there stats so here we go...

Dental School Attended: UW
Year Earned DMD/DDS: 2010
NBDE Part I/II scores: 94/?
Class Ranking: 1/55
Programs Applied: UW, UCLA, UNC, Baylor, Houston, Michigan, UConn, VCU

Hi there. Props to starting this extremely helpful thread. My buddies and I have all benefited a lot from it. On the down side, we all check our cells phones and this website at least 50 times on any given weekday.

Just wondering with super stats like yours, how many interviews have you gotten besides Baylor? I've long heard ortho invites are random a certain degree, but just how random can it get.

FYI, Baylor is still calling for interviews.

VCU vs Minnesota? Which interview would you go to?

It's a shame their dates conflict, as both are awesome programs. Given the ridiculously large number of people that extern at VCU, I think it's a fair assumption that it's slightly more competitive to get into. From what I recall both programs are free, or paid, and only 2 years, so you can bet they'll be at the top of many people's Match lists.

what should we look for in a program, besides the mere fact that whether a program is paid/non-paid, and 2 vs 3 years? I get the impression that any program is good, and you're going to be a competent orthodontist no matter where you go. Is it true that there is no bad program...just really expensive ones?
