Also rejected from University of Arizona, which I was planning on declining anyway. Am I missing something? What makes that program so special??? Any thoughts?
Just for the record, I too am looking at cancelling Loma Linda and boston (BID and BWH).

Can you guys tell I have nothing going on today? as far as which to cancel this depends on what you are looking for? geography? Avoiding cold weather? 3 yr vs 4 yr program? Obviously Gtown is a new program so thats at least a consideration IMO. Honestly from the list you have you will end up somewhere awesome. I think most of those programs are the same caliber for the most part and as such other factors like the ones i mentioned above probably will come into play.

So, I emailed Oregon asking about the status of my application -- Now, I am proud to announce I am officially rejected. Oh well :( I'd rather know on the couple I'm waiting on and be done with it!

Thanks, Ectopic. At this point the considerations are quality of program vs location vs timing... Would I be crazy to cancel Carolinas or Pitt? Don't really fancy living either place and my VISA is screaming in pain, but perhaps they would be worth it????

My situation is quite different as I have to consider my wife. We would rather not live in Pitt so that got booted. IMO NC is a great place to live. I dont think you would be crazy to cancel any of them since the rest of your list is really impressive. I dont think you could go wrong and so you have to look at location and length of program. Like I mentioned I think you have to look at Gtowns "newness" and realize that they might not have things in place to give you the quality of training as the others on your list. Of course Quinn went to USF and that seems to have worked out. I will interview there to see what they have going on and it wont cost much since I have friends in DC and I want to interview with Hopkins anyhow. Thats just my $0.02

These are simply the opinions of a simple man.

i like where this is going and would love some feedback on where to cancel as well if anyone has time or an opinion :)

got another cali rejection from stanford this time. man what is it with the west coast?? i get interviews everywhere on the east coast, midwest, you name it, and the only 2 rejections ive gotten are from- you guessed it- the only 2 cali schools i applied to. and i thought california liked laid-back people that know how to party :) ... oh well, there go my dreams of a sunny, surf-filled residency experience

Hey all,
Yeah, I can attest to the previous post, all my rejections have been the west coast programs as well.

Interviews I will attend:

1. Brown
2. BIDMC
3. MGH/Brigham
4. Pitt
5. Yale
6. Georgetown
7. Northshore-NYU
8. Upstate
9. Rochester

Interview declined/cancelled

1. Boston Medical
2. BI-Albert Eistein
3. Long Island Jewish
4. Stony Brook

Rejected (West coast of course):

1. Both UCLA
2. Stanford

I am pretty happy with my interviews overall. My question is if we have not heard by now, should I just expect rejections from here on in. I am still waiting on 8-9 more places!?! There are three from there that I would love to interview at and I don't think they are uber competitive. Can I still have hope? Thx...Good-luck all!!!

People have told me that you can get interviews up until Mid Dec. I would consider calling/emailing the ones you want to see if they can give you an answer so you can plan your life.

You're interviewing at BIDMC and Brigham/MGH and declined Boston Medical? Dude, that's probably beantown's strongest program. Then again, all three are great programs.

i cant speak for the above poster, but i personally chose BIDMC and declined Boston U. because it requires a prelim/transitional yr. hehe wish i had looked into that before i applied there...:)

Not that I am really interested in West Virginia, but I realized today that few if any people have received interviews from this place. Are they folding or something?

Maybe not that many people applied there? Or perhaps not many people on this site have applied there. Like I rotated at Orlando and I dont think ANY of their residents are on this site.

Hey,
I'm pretty familiar with the three programs in Boston since I am in the area. I do agree, in terms if clinical training, BMC is probably the strongest of the two. For me though, I am interested in doing research and I know the other two have more ops. When I applied in the beginning, I was going to apply for the prelims/trans, but I came to realize I have no desire to spent one year at one place and do the 2-4 at another. I really don't like the 2-4 model and I am glad more places are moving away from that such as Sinai and Jacobi to a 1-4 or 1-3 model. I know alot of previous interviewees cited that a 2-4 model was a major turn-off when going for interviews and applying. I do think doing a prelim/trans for something like rads or anesthesia makes alot of sense, but not for something like EM. If BMC was not a 2-4, I would have loved to go.

WTF is going ON? no love from Emory or Arizona...but DENVER wants me to interview? This makes NO SENSE.. The process strikes again! Anyone wanna trade?

Yeah, that 2-4 thing can be a deal-breaker. My only other complaint about BMC is that there is no freaking T stop there! Correct me if i'm wrong, but I think you have to take a bus or walk a ways to the nearest T station. Otherwise, fantastic program.

I don't know much about their EM program, I rotated there in another specialty. But, the transportation issue is serious there. Very limited parking options, but I think they were planning a new parking lot-- don't know the current sit. No nearby T. Most people live off a busline. Otherwise, you have to take a bus to the train station, some of which are a little scary. Not a great neighborhood to walk around in. I also thought this was a major drawback, especially when you are keeping odd hours as a resident.
