***Official 2016 Orthodontic Interviews/Match/Non-Match Results

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Yes. The committee met last weekend…not this week. We wanted to be sure to get our top candidates before Colorado's deadline acceptance which is this monday.

Thanks for the response. I thought they were still interviewing.

Rochester called people last week. We have 6 applicants that already committed to the program.
Hi buddy. Please don't play with peoples emotions. Rochester is meeting this weekend to select their candidates. This guy is trying to get other people to accept other offers. Don't trust him.

what reason do i have? i am in the program you idiot…this guy is not trust worthy..for candidates that have been offered a spot to other programs do not kill your chances of not getting into ortho..We interviewed 4o applicants this year from our previous 20-24 in the past years…we have had a lot of applicants that have strong connections with program..alumni…look at the programs history when members of the alumni apply to the program..

You guys think ortho is still lucrative? Hasn't their been an expansion of residencies and older orthodontists postponing retirement due to recession. What do you guys thing the future is for ortho? Thanks

Hey peeps,
one of my classmates has been accepted in rochester.. the spot was offered to him last week…

it is very disappointing. I'm sure you well match this year if not there is always next year. One advise I can give you and this is all from your previous posts that you have an antagonist attitude. I can assume this could be the reason of you not match this year. Good luck with your application.

Orthodontics is probably no longer as lucrative as it once was because of all the points you have mentioned above. Don't forget that a lot of general dentists are doing CE and doing orthodontics as well, beyond simple Invisalign cases.

People will still want to do it because it makes them happier than being a general dentist. I can't imagine myself doing general dentistry for another 40 years and I'm sure a lot of those applying are in the same boat.

Thanks for your response. I'm curious. Why do you and others not like general dentistry?

Why would you not rank any of the 5 programs that invited you for an interview?

Why would you not rank any of the 5 programs that invited you for an interview?
You're supposed to drop out of the match when you accept a non-match school. At least one of the 5 did not participate in the match. So...sure shot vs. four maybes. Many would go for that.

I hope this helps provide hope to those in future years who do not have typical ortho stats! Keep up the hard work try to formulate a unique set of credentials that will help separate from the pack. I made it a goal to try and get published in a major ortho journal. Even so, my interview/applied ratio was quite low, suggesting that it is smart to apply very broadly if orthodontics is really what you would like to be doing! I got invites at places that I did not anticipate. I did notice that at most of my interviews, non-traditional applicants (practice/residency experience) got a little more representation compared to other programs, where it seems most people are straight out of school with stellar stats. Realize that your fellow applicants are all strong applicants and that you never know what an admissions committee might like in your application and not to take a non-invite personally. Good luck to everyone tomorrow!

Well I applied to 33 programs and only received 5 interviews. Pass/Fail schools really make it difficult to specialize.
My letter's of rec, personal statement, personally calling program directors on the phone and having a conversation with them may have helped me get interviews. I feel that some programs are actually looking for people that they would enjoy to spend 2+ years with, do good grades really make a good applicant?

I find it hilarious that no one actually posts the name of the program they got into or dental school they attended. How does a direction help anyone?

I would think it'd be useful as far as knowing odds of matching at a program on the east coast if you're from the west coast, etc. But thanks for your comment, it's always nice to be derogatory towards people who are trying to help you out.

What would ACTUALLY be helpful to others applying in the future would be listing the actual programs that people matched/accepted positions at. This way people will have an idea of what it may take to get into that particular program. Maybe its a gunner thing to be so secretive. I still find it funny.

I find it funny that no one put the program that they matched at. Why is everyone so secretive.

I just think its a matter of how much personal information people are willing to divulge on the internet. It's interesting that you still find this funny.
