Dt know lots of details about the cardiology program BUT i do know is No. 12 in US per USNEWS ranking and it was the home of Michael DeBakey. :thumbup:
Regarding the hospital, I have heard that is a very good one. Was affiliated to Baylor but now they're separated and everyone in Houston says it was a HUGE loss for Baylor.

Screw the Big 10- got a Michigan rejection today. Thanks for taking your time guys (looks like the first rejection was three weeks ago!). At least I can take solace in knowing they thought I was good enough to reject later.

Anyway, I think I'm still waiting on another 15+ programs. That's a whole bunch of additional rejections coming my way but they need to hurry up. I have a busy schedule and it will be hard accommodating them now anyway (see how I turned that around on them...they're working around my schedule now).

That's a great way to look at it. It sounds like YOU need to be the picky one. And I'll say t again - who in the hell wants to actually spend 3 years in Michigan anyway??

We are extremely grateful of your interest in the Geisinger CV Fellowship program. We had nearly 500 applicants this year but were able to only invite 40 for an interview. Unfortunately, we will not be able to offer you an interview this year. I realize this is disappointing. I am the first to admit that the fellowship application process is extremely flawed as it is nearly impossible to identify who is going to be a great fellow and a great cardiologist. But since I have no solution for a better method we are forced to just do the best we can every year with the current system.

Man... I sincerely respect that letter. I mean, I didn't even applied to Geisinger, but I also got tons of rejections from other programs. I was not only discouraged but also disappointed by the fact that almost every single cardiologists are arrogrant and snobbish (at best). I will remember Dr. Steinhubl for his manners, and would like to say Hi and Thanks if I meet him in AHA or ACC.

But since I have no solution for a better method we are forced to just do the best we can every year with the current system.

There are a number of things that I feel obligated to let everyone know regarding UF Jacksonville Cardiology program
1.) I am writing to protect candidates, I have nothing to gain from my comments. There is no cardiology program that is so competitive that you should subject yourselves to this particular program.
2.) This program is not the same as the nationally ranked Gainesville program
3.) You will be a poorly respected super resident
4.) You will leave without appropriate procedural skills and will not be comfortable in even simple cath. This is a very serious problem. I urge all of you who are considering taking the interview to be very cautious. Outwardly it appears to be a good program. Do NOT be duped. There are other options out there
5.) They are unresponsive to the fellows' requests for any sort of change, i.e. nothing has changed in 20 years
6.) You cannot leave for rotations outside of the institution
7.) You are only there to do their work- you are viewed as a guest thus the emphasis is not on your education.
8.) You will have a very hard time going elsewhere for further training at good institutions, esp competitive programs at top places for further sub-specialization

I graduated many years ago and urge caution....

See that's the way to write an almost perfect letter! It doesn't take much time, and it is NOT hard. Just be respectful of the applicants same way you want applicants to be respectful of you.
