If your colleagues here are nice enough, they can post the available dates when they are offered the interviews...

You could also check last year's thread to get a general idea (some programs start or stop earlier or later, or only do certain days of the week). You'd find it with a search.

Also, if the program invites me to interview for the anesthesia class starting 2011, do I have to wait and possibly go through the whole airplane ticket/hotel thing again if/when I get a categorical position invite? Are they totally separate interviews?

To my understanding, you don't interview separately for categorical and advanced. When rank list time comes around, though, both you and the program list them separately, and you just make sure you have a supplemental list attached to all your advanced programs.

It's a good question, though. How do programs with both decide who gets a categorical slot and who gets advanced?

No, I don't think it's frowned on per se, as long as you go about your request in a polite/non-entitled manner and apologize for inconveniencing them. Don't assume there will still be interview dates available to you later on, though. I shuffled around a couple of interviews and had to go on a waitlist for the date I wanted at one program - luckily someone cancelled and opened up a spot for me.

As far as giving "plenty of notice," this was hammered into us last year by a few of the resident posters in the know. I believe the consensus was that one month in advance for a date change/cancellation would be polite. Three weeks at a minimum. You don't want to piss people off in this process...word can get out.

Any "advanced" spot offered in this year's match is for July 2011 start by definition. All CA-1 openings for July 2010 will be filled by out-of-match applicants.

Trust me, it's not nearly as complicated as you're making it. The programs will know what to do with you. To borrow a phrase from my favorite homebrewing forum: "Relax, don't worry, have a [home]brew."

agree with gimlet the wise here, schedule them early...be careful of rescheduling though. Like gimlet said, dates will be book quickly, same thing happened to me last year, was place on a waitlist after rescheduling due to time constraint.
