mmm... yep, this is gonna be a long night...

I can't believe we're all so focused on phys that no one's out enjoying the beautiful day or snooping around on SDN!

wow, i think that's the fastest I've ever seen a debate die! I was kind of worried/hoping that it would go on for days and days or pages and pages. I love the distraction from studying.

Anything else we can argue about?

Phys final: what a freakin nightmare.
Micro final: what a freakin horror story
Anatomy final: death!
:p

i'm scared to, ne. i was yelled at and demeaned . . . heehee

So if the phys final is a nightmare and the micro final is a horror story, and we're all gonna die with the anatomy final does that make the OTM final purgatory?

The heck is that? I don't see it on my schedule, do you?

Two finals down, three to go....

I would just like to complain about having two days of 2-hour OTM labs!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I dreamed last night that I skipped them both and they fifth-yeared me.

that's not a dream, LL . . . that is real life!

Dbl L,

That was an amazingly intricate and detailed analysis of tunnel light and the search thereof.
What have you got by way of advice for the eagerly anticipated cranial elective? I feel that the subject matter has been somewhat subjective and perhaps a little to much so for the excessively pragmatic types. About half the class are signed up, is that right?

Okay.... I know that I am just getting tired of studying and that I am cranky... but does anyone else out there think that determining 56.5% of your overall grade for a class in the last week makes any sense??? On top of that, the class is worth 100+ contact hours. Oh, and did I mention that 43% of the overall grade is being assessed on the last two days of finals?

I am just curious how the rest of you out there feel about this???

Oh, and if double elle can help me out with a little 'light at the end of the tunnel' story about the pterygopalatine fossa... I sure would appreciate it

Members don't see this ad :)
Hmmmm....Yes, I guess I am taking requests now!

Let's see. To put it short and pretty damned sweet. There is no light at the end of the pterygopalatine fossa. You see, the the sphenopalatine foramen, which is LATERAL to the pterygopalatine fossa has been cemented in, therefore shutting down the tunnel and anything running thru it. Hence, the mucosa that is directly posterior to your upper incisor teeth will have no feeling because the nasopalatine nerve runs thru there. (or SHOULD run thru there). Also, since the pterygopalatine fossa 'dangles' from the maxillary nerve, I would say that the maxillary nerve would simply waste away due to lack of feedback. Perhaps it would down-regulate some receptors? Oops, sorry, mixing up my pathways!

However, I do know that the oral exam will be a real bitch this quarter. I am shooting for the minimum amount of points I need, and I have seriously NEVER had that attitude before. Perhaps Florida will rejuvinate my love for school and academics.

My main worry is Micro!!!!! And (believe it or not) OTM. I simply have no idea how I am doing in OTM class. I've only lost 4 points total on all the practicals, including the first sacrum one. However, I haven't done so well on the exams. Who the hell knows where the extra credit will be added in!!!

I would blame my slipping attitude on the little parasite within me, but it seems as if I am not the only one with this attitude. That's nice to know. (Well, unless you are all PG!!!!) Perhaps this quarter sucks because I've slept thru 75% of it. Ironically, I got a better grade in phys this quarter and I didn't go to a single class after the respiratory exam!!! I didn't miss any classes last quarter. That's messed up, if you ask me.

Back to micro. That class scares me. My grade in there is okay, and I have to get a 50% on the final to pass...but I even have doubts about that!

Why can't this quarter just be over????????? I have found myself roaming the halls at school just looking for someone to talk to and procrastinate with.

I am glad we have that extra day for our break, since finals are over on Thursday instead of Friday.

What did everyone think of summer schedule? I know the lake will be calling my name on those noon days!!!! (Double elle...bring your self and your big ol' belly to the lake-ake-ake!)

Okay, I had better get back upstairs.
Good luck tomorrow everyone!!!!

I think my sphenopaltine foramen has sprung a leak.... ahhhhhh!!!

Is that your sphenopalatine or pterygopalatine foramen that you speak of??? Oh wait... they are one in the same... thats right, we need at least two names for every hole in the cranium... silly me!

I hope that everyone does well tomorrow!

signed,
the tired/cranky one

I forgot to mention this earlier, but a little birdy told me that this anatomy exam may be quite challenging since some brainiacs in our class 'commented' on how easy the last head/neck exam was!

So far, here's what we have going for us:

1. No! I don't want 6 extra credit points in anatomy (first quarter)

2. NO! Moving the test around to benefit 99.9% of the class is wrong! However, I'll go straight to the deans and bypass every other option. (second quarter finals)

3. NO! Having an extra day to study for the anatomy exam is not acceptable. (last week)

4. Uh, anatomy people, that last exam was way too easy! I would really like to be challenged to the point of mental meltdown while I am here at KCOM, and I KNOW I speak for my fellow classmates as well.

Has anyone read the 'buying a horse in medical school' post in the Everyone catagory?

It is by far one of the most entertaining posts I have ever read on here.

That was a great departing gift by Dr. "Mike". What a freakin waste of time preparing for it yesterday. I could have well slacked off or slept all day and know just as much for the final. Unfortunately, we will be receiving more great gifts from him next Wednesday.

I would just like to know where he pulled those questions from? I have a few ideas but some of the questions were too bad to have come from even his deepest, darkest orifices.

I actually studied for the tests, something I didn't really do with OTM until this quarter, and I am pretty darn sure I failed it. That was a waste of a perfectly good rainy thursday.

Thank GOD AFFOM is extra credit. I think every single one of us needs it. OTM may quite possibly be my lowest grade this quarter, if I pass it.

Hey all,

Just went up the OTM department to try to get some information about the test. I think they're scared of us because the place was empty not even a fellow in sight. So, I'm assuming we won't see our failing grades until tuesday at the earliest.

Viva el Levitor!!

First of all, the class average on the test was about the same as the other anatomy tests. Secondly, could you imagine Dr. Uray or Dr. Townes telling a student they were going to make this test harder? While they most likely would not tell anyone, if they did tell anyone they would tell everyone.

It sounds a bit too much like the rumors Tom and I as Physiology liaisons tried to stop about how they were making tests harder because people weren't coming to class.

But hey, rumors are fun. So here is another one for you all. I talked to Jennifer(OTM) this morning. I asked her about the OTM test. She couldn't remember the average, but did tell me an interesting quote from Dr. Vick after get the results from the scan-tron.

"Oh my, oh my. This is not good. I need to go see Dr. Lockwood." I had to laugh at that.

C-ya all in the class of 2006 chat area. After that OTM tests, I think the whole class of 2005 just got 5th yeared. Hope the class of 2006 doesn't mind waiting another year to start medical school. :)

if we all failed doesn't that say something more about them than us?

i was just browsing through some of your post, and i must say, i'm glad i'm not at KCOM. I know COMP has a lot of problems from what you may have read, but we do get the summer off. Hang in there guys, and good luck on your exams:) all this hell will eventually end.

dkwyler,

My little birdy was an anatomy fellow, and HE told me before the anatomy exam. I just don't think HE'D want me posting his name all over the place. Big-fat hints there for you as to the birdy's identity!! haha

And the person who was 'offended' by the 'that exam was to easy' comments was he-R. Not Towns or Uray. I think that was pretty evident on this test.

However, my point in posting it in the first place was to (again) illustrate how sometimes completely stupid medical students can actually be!!!!!! I simply get frustrated when people absent-mindedly say things that hurt the entire class, especially when that professor thinks our class is a bunch of lazy slackers anyway!

It's good the average was the same, I hadn't seen that yet.

Now, if I can only pass Micro!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Actually, I heard that everybody is calling our class the "whiners" not the slackers....I wonder why?!?!?!

Off the subject completely... has anybody noticed they keep changing member status' here? And it doesn't really seem to correlate with the number of posts...

Yeah, we got the 'whiners' reputation back first quarter during histology. The second years couldn't imagine why we were complaining. They weren't aware that we had it in 1.5 quarters, while they had it over 4 quarters. A couple actually apologized.

There are some serious whiners. I complain, but it's out of frustration. Venting to the wrong people because you think things will actually change as a result is WRONG. Vent and then get over it.

We are just one link in the chain of classes that's gone thru here and we deserve no better than previous classes have had it. And for the people that are the major whiners....I seriously wonder how much research went into deciding to come to medical school.

I agree that some things need to be changed, but we are going to find that EVERYWHERE!!!!! You can go work at Wendy's and experience the same frustrations. It gets old. Having a good ol' griping session is good for the soul now and then, but living your life that way is really wasteful.

So, now that I've whined and complained about the whiners and complainers...I'll get back to micro!

oh, I don?t know... I am of the opinion that we actually do deserve it a little better then the previous years that came before us. I do NOT mean that we should skate through this place! What I do mean, is that as professionals and future colleagues we should do everything in our powers to IMPROVE the system for the following class. Good examples of how NOT to do that include:

1. Telling teachers that it is ridiculous to make people sit for at least 30 minutes of a 2hr exam, when the exam was Soooooo easy (aka fun with immunology).

2. Suggesting that a micro lab would be so much more beneficial to students if they were given a pop-quiz, as opposed to the normal lab sheets.

I don?t know about everyone else, but I wouldn?t mind facilitating productive changes in our educational process. For me, that includes making it better (NOT necessarily EASIER!) for the classes that follow us. I get the distinct feeling that too many people view our opportunity to change things as a good opportunity to haze the class that follows us (or for some people to haze the rest of their existing class).

I just wanted to remind everyone to fill out their EVALUATIONS. I know alot of us had things to say about this quarter.

If we are going to bitch and moan, in a constructive manner (of course!), you need to take advantage of this and take the time to fill out those things!!!! Last quarter, I did mine right after the last final was over. That way, I knew it was finished and I wouldn't have to come back to it later.

Also, don't forget to give credit to those you feel deserve it.

A ltttle humor to lighten the load...
------------------------
An acquaintance of mine who is a physician told this story about her then four-year-old daughter. On the way to preschool, the doctor had left her stethoscope on the car seat, and her little girl picked it up and began playing with it. Be still, my heart, thought my friend, my daughter? wants to follow in my footsteps!
??? Then the child spoke into the instrument: "Welcome to McDonald's. May I take your order?" :D :D

No one posted on here in 2 days! What did everyone do this weekend????????????

PS..just wondering. Did anyone study anatomy? Or was Micro all that existed for you?

Micro took up a vast majority of my weekend... and from the feeling after that exam, it might take up next year for me as well

What is the deal with sitting for a 3hr exam, when previous years didnt have it half that bad???

I just hope that I dont have to be fifth yeared for micro... I really really really dont want that

Well, it was really hard to concentrate with the thunderstorm going on and with the person sitting next to me shaking his leg. I thought the testing room was going to cave in by how loud the thunder was! Well, hopefully they will curve it like what they did on the 2nd exam.

the last two finals have just absolutely sucked. I thought micro was going to be a bit easier on us after that last test.

I don't think I have EVER taken 2 hours to take a test before, especially since on 50% of the questions I just put C. Imagine how long it would have taken me if I had actually known the stuff and taken time to think about my answers.

I may be joining you all in 5th year of micro next year. At lease we will all know about the pop quiz ahead of time.

For those of you at home, reading this stuff....it's 3 and no word on micro. Also, and I'm sure you all won't believe this....no work on OTM either. I find this a nice thought considering that we hae 10% of our grade tommorrow. I could very well need all 10% to pass. Unfortunately I think you need be a math major to figure out the grading system in that class so I have NO idea how I am doing. I am pretty darn sure that I did NOT pass the final.

I will let you all know if we get any word on either test, since i will be here in tec north until 2am or so.

good luck with your studies and don't forget to plug in your scopes.

ne

I just heard that someone talked to sargentini and he said that the tests would be back tommorrow and the earliest they are adjusting scores because so many people did bad on the test.

I too thought it was sooo rude of the micro professors to make such a crazy test. I mean half of the questions must have been repeats from old tests or pretty close to straight from the notes. Oh yea...I heard that the micro professors ordered that thunderstorm so we would all do bad on the exam. THE NERVE!!!
As far as the length of the exam... It didn't take everyone the entire time to take it...maybe they studied.
I could have sworn that I signed something before classes I came here that said medical school was easy. Did anybody hold on to that document?

well put, barrier, well put . . . and point taken!

Well, the lastest word is that we may see it sometime tomorrow due to adjustments being considered. I just talked to Sarg. The average before adjustments was 69%!!!! How could this be??? THere was however, a typical bell curve distribution.

Well Takin' it!

Thank you for you incredibly insulting post. I am really glad that you had such and easy time with the exam this morning. I am incredibly impressed by your steller micorbiology skills as well as your talent with sarcasm.

I find that sarcasm is the perfect way to get your point across. I hope your patients appreciate that when you are a doctor. I am darn sure they will.

I hope that you post made you feel really smart and superior to the others in your class. I have no doubt that you are. You are obviouly one of the smartest students at KCOM and I hope one day to be as smart and talented, especially in the area of microbiology as you are.

Now that's sarcasm.

Tell me, did I get my point across?

well put, nebaker, well put . . . and point taken!

The next message is from Ryan K. Lehmann:
Dear "taking it to the barrier" and "johndo,"

I think your comments of late are wholly inappropriate; that is, unless your goal was to belittle and offend a number of your classmates. While I can appreciate the fact that no one said med school was going to be easy, no one (that I can remember) said you couldn't complain about anything while going through this difficult process. I'm sure you both scored very highly on this exam, and had spare study time to devote to insulting your classmates via student doctor network. I've said this before and I guess it's necessary again:
If med school is too hard, study harder.
If med school is too easy, find something constructive to do like read journals, or study for boards, or play with your kids. Obviously, some have a harder time and still deserve to graduate, just like you.

Thank you,

Ryan K. Lehmann

Ryan -

Very appropriately stated!

Okay people!!! I'd hate to jeopardize this little one inside me, but I'm going to have to get in between you and separate you!

First of all, I would much rather see the griping and bitching on this post than hear it at school. I love using this board as a place to vent. It's a fun place to be sarcastic and semi-stupid. A lot of people use this place as an anonymous place to say what they are feeling at the time. Keep in mind, this is an EMOTIONAL ride! What makes us mad today won't phase us tomorrow.

That exam kicked my ass, as did the OTM, as will the rest of them this week. I reserve the right to get on here and complain. We all know that medical school isn't easy. And, no one gets more upset at the whiners than I do. However, this isn't the place to come down on people when there's really no need.

This was exactly what I was talking about earlier when I said 'vent and get over it'. Let people use this board for that. I would MUCH rather see it here than hear it all day at school.

Actually, I am thankful that the people that complain/vent on here at least have a sense of humor about it. At school, you hear people go ON and ON and ON. It's nice that people can use humor to lighten the situation a bit. And, hey, sometimes the complaints are legitimate..useless, but legitimate.

So, let's all relax and look forward to those remediation exams! We have 10 whole days to study for them all.

Oh, and Ryan, get your own user name on here. We need to see more of you!

In Barrier's defense, he/she has every right to post just like the rest of you. I am surprised at the way everyone is responding to this simple comment! I am sorry if you didn't do well on the test. I only responded the way i did because it was refreshing to see someone (Barrier) with a sense of humor, rather than just complaining. There is nothing to indicate that he/she actually did well on the exam; this person was just merely making observations.

Ryan, no I did NOT score very well on the exam without studying, as you stated. In fact, I was one of the few people who spent their entire weekend here studying (ask my wife and kids how much they have seen me in recent weeks), and probably still did not do well. I did, however, talk to many people who had some very nice tans after this fine weekend we had (no implication for anyone in present company).

Everyone here has their own priorities. Read my recent posts and you will see I have never resorted to insulting my classmates, because I deeply respect everyone who has the courage and motivation to endure this process.

BTW, thank you to those who have taken the emotion off the board and into the halls of KCOM, resorting to high school backstabbing, though; that really encourages me. See? I can use sarcasm, too!

John DO

LL,

Good point; however, this is a public forum and our posts do influence outsiders' opinions of our beloved school. Transient emotion translates to a permanent record of a poor school, or so it seems.

I don't believe that stating my opinion about the diffuculity of a test makes our school look bad. I think that the remarks that followed my innocent comment did.

Stating an opinion is much much different than attacking a person who stated thier opinion. The attacks make the school look bad.

I don't care what anyone says. I don't think that "take it to the barrier" was trying to be funny. If he/she was, no one took it that way.
