Could one of the moderators explain the differences between: Probationary status, Hold, Temp ban, Permanent ban, and Revoked?
What warrants each? How long does each last? I cannot seem to find the actual policies listed anywhere on the site.

If BMB's posts were really that inappropriate then I would have thought a final warning or temporary ban would have been sufficient. I haven't seen any other of his posts that I found questionable.

He has contributed a great deal to the forum over the last 15+ years, especially to The Investment Thread. Of course, his arguments with @wagrxm2000 made it all more interesting.

This forum is dying. Same topics being discussed forever (death of pharmacy, terrible job market etc.).

So, when one of the more interesting posters gets banned, it directly affects the forum quality which is already down the drain.

I got banned for a month for saying it is idiotic to borrow more than 250 k for pharmacy school. Apparently some people got hurt by my comment.

I am sorry but not everyone is going to sugarcoat things for you. It is going to happen here and it is certainly not going to happen in the real world.

On a side note, I forgot completely about oldstock as one of our favorite banned members.

As always, there's more to the story but for sake of our sensitive members I wouldn't want to reveal more than I have too.

If anyone keeps getting dinged, it has nothing to do with calling pre-pharms illiterate for considering pharm schools. However, colorful ways to say they are clueless for going into pharmacy could most definitely do it. No one will get banned for simply acknowledging there's a saturation.

So, if other mods ding you and you feel its unfair then let your current mods know. As mentioned, other forums have multiple mods, you guys only have two (of which I also moderate other forums) so it takes time to review while doing other tasks (family, work, school, life, etc).

For the record, I thought BMB at times gave good contributions on SDN as well as many of you. Believe or not, I hate to see folks with a plethora of experiences disappear.

I have to say, as objectively as I can possibly render an opinion, this pharmacy board seems about as 25% as helpful and entertaining as it was when I first joined.

That’s mostly through attrition of helpful people and somewhat related to the banning of those entertaining ones.

BMB dug his own grave, but I’ll miss arguing with the guy and hope he just registers a new name and refreshes his IP address.

When another administrator already puts out a statement as to the reason of the violation (especially when stated its a graphic violent death video) their is always going to be questions (who was provoked, why was it posted, so on and so forth). Here's the problem....

The TOS violation was in the video clip and not the events surrounding it. Seeing that some viewers were starting to justify that this video was like any other video without actually knowing what it was, it was an important lesson to explain to the forum the grounds of the violation and the details of the clip. So, now that you have an understanding as to why I decided to reveal the brief details of the clip, you can see how pointless it would now be to focus your energy on who started what or who was provoked.

Our focus however is the violation & not type out the names of every single user involved in the now-closed-video-discussion and give other users an unnecessary or unwanted platform. Leading to the specific thread doesn't help the parameters either.

Now: take a nap, kiss your parents / wife / husband / dog / cat / or your pillow if you live alone, eat a balanced breakfast, do some pushups, vent about the big bad mods (or just me that's fine as well), then get back in the forums and keep contributing in the areas you would like to remain involved in. Or (as you implied) take your boredom elsewhere if you wish to do so. Second best is reddit though I'd start there before shopping around elsewhere in the deep corners of the web.

You still don't get it. Literally everyone agreed that the video clip was a violation. People just didn't agree with the outright banning, which is why we are asking for context! But fine, keep thinking you are right.

I know. This forum is a shell of its former self. Back in the mid-late 00s, it was seriously a fantastic forum. There were dozens of posters that were just characters. Moderation was very light. They just let us be. But the mods have become more and more autocratic over their fiefdom with each year that passes. Nobody thinks BMB should be banned other than the maudes/admins. A week break, fine. But a permaban? Ridiculous. But who cares what the actual posters think. The maudes have spoken.

It's sad seeing how they have slowly killed it over time. Talk about the job market is sequestered to its own forum that I forget exists. Entertaining posters get banned for stupid reasons. Long time posters with over a decade of posting get banned for showing a relevant current events video of a cop getting shot.

I'm considering opening my own subreddit. The r/pharmacy one sucks. The rules of MikeyMaude™ will be simple. No child porn, no racist stuff, no talking about gold in the financial thread. Other than that everything goes.

I was just stunned by the unprovoked level of douchiness to my initially innocent inquiry. Still am. And the fact that I'm the one got the temp ban must have meant that the mod was a vet too. There is definitely a toxic level of egos on SDN. It seems to attract them like flies to ****. You'd think that- since we all have probably higher than average respective educations- that we could sort of make it a safe zone rather than trying to show how much better we are than everyone else. I am sad that you have negative memories from the discussion. I actually thought both sides did a good job of back and forth until the headbutt with DVMD. And for the record, she is one of the more abrasive truth tellers on the forum which sets people on edge within our community too. But she comes from a good place most of the time and is not out to actually cause malice.

So, in the end, nope, wasn’t the vettie mods who shook a finger at you, and honestly, I would probably have left it open as there is a lot to unpack with the topics of exotics care and pharmacy in general in veterinary medicine. Haha
