DeBusk College of Osteopathic Medicine...PART 6!!!!

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Not yet. My kids won't need one for a little while after moving, so I didn't pick on yet. I was thinking about find a FP. Since I want to go into FM, I thought that might be nice to check out their office. Claiborne County Hospital and St. Mary's in LaFollette have physician directories. They have pediatricians listed at ETCH as well. I guess you should look near where you will be living.:)

My daughter (the gymnast) sees Dr. Sears. He is highly recommended by our pediatrician and our coaches. He is part of Knoxville Orthopedic Clinic (KOC) and they have several branches 865-558-4400. There are several DOs in the clinic also but I don't remember if they are peds or adult b/c they have both.

Hope that helps a little. I do have a phone book if you want me to look anything up.

For those with kiddos...have ya'll picked a pediatrician yet? I have no idea what the best way is to find one, especially when I am in a different state!

I think we are going to keep our Knoxville Ped. He is my mentor and I am hoping to get a rotation with him for one of my electives.

Speaking of that, when we have rotations and we have to choose from medicine or surgery, does anyone know if we can choose those in peds? I'm assuming we can, but I can't find any information saying one way or another.

That is perfect. Thanks! :) I can't think of anything to have you look up in the phone book at the moment, but I'll let you know. I guess I will have my own to peruse in about two and a half weeks!!! :scared: :D

BTW, what are you planning on specializing in? What about everybody else? I just realized that I don't know what everyone is interested in. I know just about everything else about y'all, but not that.

That's a really good question! I would imagine so, but I have no grounding for the assumption.

I'm changing my post to elaborate more. I constantly change my mind between ER, RADS, CC, FM, and Peds. I know it tends to run the gambit on specialties and practices, but I really find each one fascinating in its own way. I really like the continuity of care in FM and Peds, but I also thrive on the adrenaline and uncertainty of ER and CC. RADS is something I've just been interested in because I enjoy physics, but it's probably a low choice on my list right now. My background is almost completely in ER and CC and so it's where I'm most comfortable with. I've heard of some docs who are pediatric trained and moonlight in pediatric ERs so that's always an option. Who knows...I like variety. I guess I have at least a year or two to decide right????

I'm planning on peds of some sort.

Not sure yet, but it will have to be more of a procedure based specialty. I am definitely more of the "doing" type than the "thinking" type.

Ortho or EM...I like to work with my hands, and I hate 9-5 jobs

DCOM will be an amazing school, wishing you all good luck in your journeys.

(Hopeful rural FM on waitlist!)

Specialty? Honestly, I have no clearcut favorite at this point. I'm keeping an open mind...but I know I will likely end up in a place that would be considered "underserved". I'm not a huge fan of large cities.

Of interest would be FM, IM, Optho., possibly ortho., who knows.

I like talking to people...I love working with my hands, etc...

I'm also a person that likes to see immediate results of my labor.

Hey, what lender are you guys choosing? and why?

I chose Chase. Why? Well EdAmerica looks the best, but they charge a fee (I had them for undergrad) and Chase doesn't. So in the end, I though Chase was the best choice for me.

Hey, what lender are you guys choosing? and why?

I chose EdAmerica. But, honestly, I don't think it matters that much. For my UG loans, I had one with the government and two with HSBC. HSBC sold my loan to NelNet and then I consolidated the three together at NelNet. Once I finish school, I will probably consolidate them all with another lender. And, I am optimistic that since I am going to rural FM, I will be able to find a repayment program. So, I really don't think it matters who I pick in the long run. :D

I doubt it. It's probably something you'll have to wait to do in 4th year.

I'm also interested in possibly being a peds specialist so don't feel so lonely.

I've read that in your 3rd and 4th year selectives and electives you should get as many in your desired field of medicine as you can so that you can get LORs and prove your interest when applying to residencies in the fall of 4th year. But when you read DCOMs catalog it just says general surg, ENT, Opth, etc. I would really like to do at least half in peds. One rotation in peds just isn't going to cut it!

What about those who want things like rads or derm? I wonder when they can get some of those type of rotations in? I really wish we had a little more info!

There are ways around it. Like getting a new screenname.......ala that troll Genetics, etc.

Yea, except he had like 10 new screen names.

No, Dr. I has never changed his screen name or registered for a different one. We will all just have to wait and see what happens.....*cue Twilight Zone music*
