Bone Spurs

I have a navicular bone spur extending appx 5mm above the surface caused by my hockey skates. I have made a makeshift hole in several layers of socks to accommodate the protrusion. Are bone spurs prone to reabsorbtion or are they permanent without surgical intervention?
