New cardiology fellow here. What is the job outlook like for academic cardiology? My program is more clinically focused which is most important to me, but I would like to keep my options open and look into academic cardiologist jobs. I have good amount of research background with several published manuscripts in cardiology but don't come from pedigree institutions. Looking into noninvasive and plan to get board certified in echo and nuc. I am looking to go back to the West Coast as well.
I've already done my research in terms of salary (50% of usual clinic/private practice) and lifestyle (heard it's great for the most part). Significant other really likes their job and if I am to have kids soon after fellowship, might have to consider a good lifestyle or part-time job if that is available. Thanks!
