2013-2014 Application Status - Schools, Interviews and Acceptance

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
For those who interviewed at DMU. How many people were with you on interview day? Also was the interview towards the end of the day? Thanks. Just trying to get more of a picture in my mind of how the day will go next week.

I've seen interview groups from about 4-10 students in size. IIRC, the interviews were around 9:30 or 10 so you get them out of the way before lunch, and then after lunch is a campus tour. I doubt they've changed it from last year.

I believe when I went we met in the admissions office. There were about 25 people there fore the DO program and 8-10 for the DPM program. From there we met with the Dean for a little while, started the tour, had the interviews and continued on with the tour. Its an enjoyable process and you shouldn't feel the need to be competing with the other people in your group or be nervous about it. Just enjoy the process and try to get a feel for the school. While they spend a small section of the day interviewing you, you should be evaluating everything throughout the day to see if its a fit for you as well. Don't be afraid to be yourself and ask questions.

Interviewing at Temple tomorrow!! Can anyone tell me what its like or what questions they ask? I was accepted to NYCPM with a scholarship, but that interview was so laid back, they barely asked any questions. I hope Temple is the same way.

Thanks for the insight. Greatly appreciated.

Temple is more laid back than NYCPM.... haha so you're in good shape. It wasn't the least bit stressful!

To BCAA (et al),

As a first year at AZPOD, I can tell you that there is no drama between the DO and Pod programs. We are all treated equally and endure pretty much the same classes together. Heck, we even have a study group this weekend for our anatomy final that has 4-5 DO and another Pod. Everyone is busting their butts for a good grade, but I just want to reiterate, there is no bad blood between AZCOM and AZPOD. If anyone has any questions about AZPOD, feel free the PM me.

PS- Yeah it's hot here... not gonna lie.

For those of you who interviewed at NYCPM, could you post a list of what questions they asked? What was something they really focused on during the interview whether it was LORs, MCAT scores, GPA, hobbies, etc?

THey focused on your whole application. There were less outside questions. If you received a low grade in your orgo class be able to defend it. If you did not do well on your mcat, be able to defend it. Review your application and be able to defend any Negatives on there. It was really fun there and don't worry its easy. Good luck!!

Thank you kimoooooo. I was wondering does anyone have a good justification for getting a 6 in verbal reasoning? That is the one thing I think they might pick on. I could say that I am stronger in sciences, I got a 9 in chemphysics and an 11 in bio section. But I took the MCAT twice and got a 6 both times. I could say it was nerves but I'm not sure what else I could say to justify it to them... Does anyone have suggestions? Thanks.

Good luck to everyone out there.

Your welcome. My verbal score was lower than yours but i had lots of shadowing, activities, etc. So They want to hear answers like you had a hard schedule, for ex, orgo and physics at the same time. I'm sure they want to hear answers like the one i gave because the Prof. who interviewed me answered the question. I told him that verbal does not defined what kind of physician i will become and he told me it is bec of ur heavy schedule and i said yes exactly, lol. And i guess it worked out bec i got in. Whats ur GPA BTW?

I took the MCAT twice as well, both times I got above a 25 however each time I scored a 6 in chem/phys. To be honest no one ever mentioned the low score in that section they just asked about my overall score and my study methods.

Hi Surfincat,

I actually disagree that a busy schedule would lead to a lower verbal score. If anything, a busy schedule would lead to a lower physical science/ biological science score. Theoretically, verbal requires the least amount of preparation (I had average bio/physics scores, but a good verbal score). Are you foreign? Is English not your first language? Maybe it will help you to talk about how you noticed that the MCAT showed you a weakness in your critical reading ability, and ever since then you began to take steps to correct the problem. You read more frequently and keep your eyes more open--you started reading more scientific literature and more difficult works. All this is to say that by the time school starts, your critical reading skills will be up to par.

That would be how I would explain away your 6 relative to your 11/9.

Unless you wrote some really weird stuff in your essay or one of your recommenders secretly hates you, you're gonna get into all of them.

Anyone have any idea why Scholl is not inviting as many students for interviews this year?

Anyone have any idea why Scholl is not inviting as many students for interviews this year?
Scholl is probably offering interviews just like the other schools. I had an interview invite but since I'm accepted to DMU I won't be interviewing there. Could explain it for others as well. Just a thought and it's still very early. So I wouldn't be worried.

I doubt it's the school not inviting as many people. There isn't a huge sample size here on SDN, and of those using SDN, they might have gotten a bit spooked by Scholls match last spring. Who knows though.

Interview at Temple and Barry! Still waiting on several of the other schools. Hoping for good news soon :)

I am debating if I should send in my application for pod school after being withdrawn from another school. What are the chances of a drop out being re admitted to podiatry school.

Send your application you got nothing to lose but a lot to gain. They will probably interview you because they will want to know the reason behind your withdrawal. It's still early in the year so this is a huge advantage.

alright i choose to reapply but only to cspm. my application on aacpm is submitted but not completed because my transcripts haven't been received yet. I am wondering how long it took schools to respond to you?

It took me 2 business days for both schools i applied to to respond

Is anyone interviewing at NYCPM this Thursday, Nov. 14?

Thanks, i guess time will be in my interest since i'm starting out with 2 classes, anatomy and immunology for the first semester which will start in Jan and end in May.

Let's see here. First here are my basic credentials.

cGPA: 3.3
sGPA: 3.4
MCAT: 25Q

I have around 200 clinical volunteer hours, and 100 nonclinical volunteer hours. I have worked full time during college and have been a part of my schools Red Cross club for a few years. I also have plenty of job shadow opportunities. The only thing I can't check off my list are any research opportunities, but it's not because I didn't want to.

I applied to Western, Kent, Barry, Rosalind Franklin (Scholl), and Des Moines.

Western: Interview 11/7/2013 and I was accepted the next day 11/8/2013.
Des Moines: Interview 11/18/2013
Kent: Interview 11/25/2013
Rosalind Franklin: Interview 12/2/2013
Barry: Have not accepted an interview, yet.

I haven't accepted Barry as it is not my first choice. I am eying Rosalind Franklin or DMU as my top 2, but won't know for sure until I visit them. Western University's Dean was an amazing and a very insightful man. I wasn't necessarily considering Western to be one of my highest choices, but after speaking with him I am most definitely considering it.

Good luck to everyone!

Hey everyone,

I received an interview invite from Barry, but I am having a hard time getting in contact with them. I emailed their podiatry email address, heard no answer, then the next day left a phone message for Amy Major (from admissions) on Tuesday.

Anyone else having a hard time setting up an interview with Barry? Are they known to take this long?

Thanks!!

is anyone having trouble contacting the admission staff of SAmuel merritt?
