The lower tuition is "significant," but the cost of living is higher in NYC than other areas. A point which nycpm makes during the interview process, and also the reason behind the 7k difference.

True, but the CSPM living area isn't exactly cheap either and is comparable or more expensive than NYCPM's living situation.

They have been timely with all exchanges. No longer than a couple days. You should call and have them update you on your status. Too easy.

Really nervous because my practice MCAT scores were low: 18-21 and I thought the real thing was really hard so I'm really hoping my GPA can help balance out a low MCAT score.

For the most part, try to send your LORs ASAP, but most schools just want them on file by the time you have your interview. Send official transcripts to the school after you've been accepted to show any newly completed courses that were being taken while still applying and that shows your completion of your degree (if applicable to you). That's the process as I understand it.

I interviewed at DMU, Scholl, Western, and Kent and the only one I had to write anything for during the interview was Western.

Interviews usually start with a roundtable discussion with the admissions staff and then typically a meeting with the Dean. They go over financial aid, housing, and then usually allow you to meet with some students who will give you a tour.

Finally, you sit down with your interviewer(s) and they ask you some questions and try to get to know you a little better. They will ask you about your life, what you do outside of school/academia, hobbies, etc. But, they will also go over any blemishes you have on your record, grades, GPA, volunteering, shadowing opportunities, and EVERY school I interviewed at asked me why I chose podiatry. Kent was the only school that asked me about why I applied to both DO and DPM, and were happy to accept I wanted to make the best choice for my future.

I received acceptances to all the DPM schools I applied but decided to attend Scholl. As I live in Michigan this is the closest school to home for me and their facilities were exceptional. I have two DO school interviews but will be declining them shortly here. Because I wont even be attending my DO school interviews (AT Still Arizona, Campbell) I can't really compare them to the DPM interviews. Hope that all helps!

You have been invited to interview because the school thinks that you have the ability to pass the classes. I wouldn't say they are thrown out but it is likely you will be accepted if you act professionally.

add me to the received interview list at Western University. I havent took the MCAT yet but man all of a sudden I got pick up the pace to study to ace that

to Toadesque, think of the interview of going into a bar and talking to a guy/girl. you want good eye contact and humble behavior. They know you are a bright person but want to know are you a "people" person because you will be working with people, both fellow health care practitioners and patients.

if you are concerned, look up some videos on youtube on how to do a successful, you will be good in a short time.

I interviewed at DMU and got placed on the alternate list. I interviewed at CSPM and have another scheduled for NYCPM. Sigh, this is such an exhausting process! Gotta keep going tho. I am so close!

It must be a relief to be accepted and not have to worry about retaking that stinking MCAT again!

I know what you mean! I was so TIRED after my interview, it just sapped all my energy out of me! This whole process is tough though, and I think they understand that. Yeah, I'm glad about that too. I did list that I was planning on retaking the MCAT, but that it was mainly to better my chances of getting scholarships--I even said so in my interview and they TOTALLY understood that. I'm not sure if I will now though, and my acceptance isn't tied to it. It WOULD be nice to earn more in scholarships...

they had snow storms during my interview time there so they took like 2-3 weeks but they meet on wednesdays to make decisions I believe. It will take about 2 weeks after your interview. they dont send acceptance emails

Well, my top choice was DMU, I mean, it still is. But it's highly unlikely I will get accepted off the alternate list as they have about 40 students in it and only 53 slots. And I don't think DMU's alternate list move much. SO, I guess it's back to the drawing board. I liked CSPM but I want to see NYCPM. Now I'm debating if I should also apply to Scholl, just in case I don't want to fork over the extra moolah for the cost of living associated in living in CA or NY.

I know at least 2 people were taken off the wait list for DMU last year

I interviewed and both Western and Temple. The Western interview was without a doubt WAY more stressful. One after another, "Tell me about a time when had to do something in blah blah situation". It was so stupid and uncomfortable. Temple interview was so much more relaxed but I did have a really chill interviewer, I totally expected him to ask me about some of my bad grades but instead he just glossed over them and said I did okay in some "really tough classes". Most of the interview was just about non-academic stuff and any questions I had concerning podiatry.

As for the DAT if you have an above average GPA then the DAT score shouldn't be too much of a concern even though it is pretty low...At least one thing needs to be above average if the other is below average. I had a crappy GPA but an ok DAT+MCAT (19 AA and 25 MCAT) so that helped.

Hey everyone I got an interview at Temple University! really excited but I have a few questions

1.) I am going to check out the interview feedback section on SDN but did anyone find the Temple interview to be relaxed as other schools? My Western interview was pretty chill but I am worried that the Temple University interview will be more tougher.

2.) Also I applied with a DAT score (17AA) which is normally one point of their average, even say I do well on the interview is it possible I may be still rejected because of this score? do you think they have seen enough of my academic history that the admission decision it goes off on interview? I am sure that this is my only bad part in my application and I am willing to retake to get a better score but getting in would be nice.

Just don't say "more tougher" and you should be golden. (sarcasm)

@Toadesque funny that you say the Western was tougher, I got the same question you did but maybe bc I have had that question before that I used some humanitarian aid scenario for the question. I hope the Temple interview is chill and gets good marks on my application. I have heard great things about Temple (CSPM/Western are my preferred choices bc of proximity to my parents but at this point its a pipe dream to get in and I can always come back to CA for my 4th year), especially with their residency placement rate.

@jch555 thanks for pointing that out, I was always have a bad habit of using "more" with an adjective. maybe I should use that if the interviewer asks a question about a weakness. lol

@ldsrmdude I figured after the interview is over maybe the adcom still is concerned with my DAT score that they might ask me to retake it. potentially if I got an 18AA the admissions lady said I can get a $1000 scholarship (not sure if renewable or not) but I heard Temple gives a lot of scholarships for 2nd-4th year students, obviously this is the last thing on mind though since I would rather work hard and get into a good residency and then hopefully make into one of the Kaiser jobs/ortho group practices.

my bad, I took both but with the DAT I know my scores after I take the test whereas with the MCAT it takes a month to get the scores. also I like the DAT format better than the passage based questions of the MCAT. plus I am running out of time since most of the schools have filled up their classes.

Not that they are everything, but just to kind of get an idea of the schools beyond the average particularly for people that may have a low/high MCAT/sGPA. Also whether any of the schools have an auto reject that they know of. Everyone can post their stats but it isn't going to be as helpful as the information that the schools provide on their websites. Maybe schools change their acceptance criteria every couple years. No one on SDN knows the auto reject stats. If you want to know your chances of getting in then you need to call and talk to the schools.
