2009 Interviews/Rejections Thread

UT San Antonio has this whole health exam questionnaire that they want filled out including a comprehensive eye exam. University of Florida wants an eye exam before the interview.

Too lazy to find the article but there was an article in Ophthalmology, I think, that looked to find how many (in percentage) of programs required an eye test (I think it was something like 22%.)

According to the article, those programs that do not require a test don't do one reasons primarily for legal reasons, as it is not clear how or if the eye exam correlates to surgical ability in the end.

I'd like to see the article...I find it hard to believe an eye surgeon without stereopsis is as good as one with such at most surgeries...especially membrane peels, cataracts, etc...but pretty much any surgery requires the depth of field the binocular vision provides

Got a Temple University Secondary Application request via snail mail a couple of days ago. (One-page questionnaire with much of the same information that was already in SF Match CAS + 2x2 Photo request).

Got the same.....what's the deal with programs wanting information that's IN THE CAS APPLICATION (CV, personal statement etc..). Anyone receive any interviews lately? Seems like most programs holding off till Octish according to emails and last years thread.

Hi all,

Just received snail mail invite from Yale so they may still be extending interviews.

Anybody know on average how many interviewees are interviewed on a given day? U of Florida says between 10-12 but no other programs have said.

Wisconsin said 9 per interview day.

In general programs interview like 8-10 per spot I think? And then divide that total by the number of interview days.

You're not shut out by any means judging from your previous posts. :)

The admissions/interview process is so intriguing. So Baylor interview but no Texas Tech Interview. Fascinating...

Congrats!

 I've been shut out since the first week, hoping for texas program invites!

Well I am happy with CPMC and UF, both places I would love to be next year!
:)

Anyone know if having the Dean's letter sent in early, say now, is a good thing to do? Would programs even know or care that it was there earlier than other applicants? Any thoughts?

Since it's still early in the application season, can people post the date that their CAS application was processed, along with their interview invite? Just so the others can have a better sense of either we haven't heard yet because we're in a later batch that may not have been reviewed yet or that they just decided to pass up on us

I'm particularly interested in CAS process dates for Baylor and UCI.

i forgot the exact date but i was first batch -- i think 8/16. i heard from yale and u. rochester.

Got Baylor. Mine was processed a week before the target date (9/2)

It's funny Wilmer's interviews are just a couple weeks away and no word on that program yet.

University of Wisconsin today by e-mail. November 6th (3 slots) and November 20th (9 slots).

My application was processed Sept/8. So far I only received nothing but a few receipt confirmations.

How many of you have your Step 2 score ready when applying? I don't, so I wonder if that's a minus factor.

Is it just me or do schools seem to be slower this year offering invites than last year? Looking at last year's thread it seems that way

Superfrost- is that Cornell to be added to the list?

Starting to get nervous, I have also heard nothing...

Second UW by email... Nov 6th is full

Is it just me or do schools seem to be slower this year offering invites than last year? Looking at last year's thread it seems that way

I bet it will pick up quite a bit after Oct. 1. I heard from residents that early/mid Oct seemed to be when a big wave of invites go out. But some programs don't send out invites until Nov.

Cubsrule4e or any other person that has been through this crazy process,

I posted this question earlier and got a limited response. How many people generally interviewed with you per interview day? One of my interviews has said between 10-12 and someone else suggested that one said 9 per day.

Does that seem about right or do some programs interview a whole lot more or a whole lot less?

Thanks!

I ended up with 10 last year and 9 of them (all but home school) came after October 1. Hope that helps.

for those of you with UW interviews, when was ur app processed?

i'm from wisc but i have been out of state for hs, college, and med school. i didnt get an interview offer. should i send a letter of interest??

i've heard back from baylor and uf-jacksonville so far...

Yes Weill Cornell. Have faith, October is here and the floodgates will open.

You're trying to distinguish if the person who said 9 is correct or if 10-12 is correct? What does that 1-3 extra people matter in the end?

Also, it's very residency specific. Some weak programs have more interview days with 10+ spots/day because they go deeper into their candidate pool, others only have 1-2 interview days and interview everyone then.

So the way to figure it out is basically how many people they offer interviews to (total) and split it evenly among the number of interview days.

Wilmer interviews 2 or 3 days with a total of like 25-30 people. Duke is 2 days with 50 people given interviews. So you see there is a huge difference in number of people even among similar caliber programs.

hope this helps

I guess better phrased my question might be how many interviews per spot on average a program gives. (i.e. if a program had 40 interviews for 4 spots that might be 10:1).

Also, most programs don't really tell you how many people they are interviewing total.

It is USUALLY 10 people per program spot, with some slight variation per program...but that's what seemed to be the general rule
