How are there batches? SF Match just make the applications available to programs as they upload them...sounds like a rolling distribution method.

So you dont have to decide on the spot on what interview date you want? How long did they give you to decide?

Email from Med C Georgia

Running List:
University of Florida (11/30, 12/4, 12/7, 12/11)
CPMC (11/23, 11/30, 12/7)
Med C Georgia (10/19, 11/16, 12/14)

At least for Cal pacific, they didnt set a deadline, but I imagine they will just fill up first come, first serve

Congratulations!

I decided on the spot, although both UF and CPMC gave a couple of days

My guess is there is a first batch of all the uber-organized students who submitted their applications before the processing began, but after that it would probably be rolling...

I got a call yesterday just before 8pm EST; the coordinator offered the 3 timeslots and said I could think about it for at least a few days, but she noted that it is first-come first-served (although as of yet, the days are all still pretty open). I took a few hours to decide.

My CAS application was received at noon on 8/19 and processed/uploaded the evening of 8/21.

Mine was distributed on the 26th...so hopefully I will get something next week:xf:

ive heard the majority of places will not be offering interviews until sept/october

Do any of last year's applicants know whether the schools just let students know about interviews on one day and then everyone else comes off the waiting list (if your app is already in)?
What I'm trying to figure out is if I haven't heard from one of the schools that already notified some students about interviews and my application was submitted in the first batch, should I consider that as a rejection from the school?
Thanks for the advice!

I applied last year. My application was sent to SF Match about a week after the date suggested/recommended. My first interview invitation was received in late September, around Sept 30th or so. My last interview invite was received in mid November, around Nov 20th. All told, I applied to 40 programs and had 30 interview invites. There is the tendency to become anxious early on that you aren't getting interviews - as I myself did - especially if your friends (or others on these boards) have received interviews from programs which you hold in high regard. Let me caution you, however, that the programs extend interview invitations over the course of several weeks, and your failure to receive an interview at the time of others has nothing to do with their impression of your application. The only circumstance in which you can probably assume you were invited for an interview "from the waitlist" is if you receive the invite a few days before the interview date.
Hope this helps. Good Luck

Got one today from CPMC, CAS was distributed on the 28th.

^^^thanks abceye, that was a great post and spoke exactly to what i was wondering!

Got a UTSW confirmation of receipt, i guess that's something.

I do think there is some value in knowing who is offering interviews and when.

I'm certainly not arguing THAT fact...I'm just saying, if someone posts "X University is offering via email on these dates," then all the people that "second" that information, etc seem to just be bragging as the information has already been made available on the forum

For instance, Texas Tech gave the interviews out today and someone kindly posted that information...was it really needed to have someone else second that information? Is it more realistic of an invite now?

The thread isn't only for reference purposes, it's also a place for those applying to socialize and post interviews they get as they see fit. That's how last year's thread worked, that's how other specialties' interview threads work, and that is how this one should work. Besides if we went with your way there would be three early bird superstars posting every interview, and I don't know if we'd like that.

^^^ agreed.

Also... SDN is not very representative, but having multiple SDNers post gives a sense of how many interviews might have been offered, and on what timeframe.

Yeah, like Superfrost is saying. Check out last year's thread. People posted as they received interviews. Tech is my first interview invite, so I was a little excited and thought I would share so that others can get a sense of which programs are active. Again, the name of this thread is Interviews/Rejections

Anyone know what the deal is with the eye exam requirement for some of the residency programs? Do bad eyes = no residency? Also, why do only some programs require it?

which programs require it? is it something they only ask for w/ an interview?

Yes I believe it is required for some interviews, specifically the stereopsis test. I know that UTSW and U Wisconsin require such a test. Wisconsin will do it for you on interview day, but it's my impression that UTSW would like you to get it done before the interview.

What is the purpose of the test? Is it for medical/legal reasons?

you need sufficient stereopsis to be able to make the appropriate diagnosis, for your surgical skills, etc.
