If you think a teacher trolling for a date with a minor is a breach of trust, how about an emergency room doctor?

Dr. Jeffrey Beck, a 50-year-old, is here to meet a boy who claims to be 14. His online chat is not as sexually explicit as the others. He talks about covering the teen with “hugs and kisses, saying “I want to cuddle you and make you feel safe and loved and cared about.”

He even tried to follow our decoy upstairs.

When I confront the doctor he says he had no intention of having sex with the boy.

n here?

Jeffrey Beck: What’s really going on is I came over to take him out for lunch.

He said he only came here because he felt badly for the teen who was left home alone.

Beck: He was so anxious to have some company when he was left by himself for four days, under the circumstances it sounded neglectful.”

Hansen: So you’re the Good Samaritan?

Beck: That’s correct.

After our story, Dr. Jeffrey Beck moved to California. His medical license there has been suspended.

That a doctor would show up at this house surprised us, but it would be one of many surprises here just outside Washington D.C.

That's horrible, but people make up every type of profession. Of course we take it worse when the profession has influence over young folks (like teachers, doctors) and we want them to have high moral values, but its just like Dubin from Dubin's EKG book that was caught for child pornography.

I caught that show and I was extremely traumatized by it. They had endless swarms of predators coming to this house that they rented to catch pedophiles, and had people from all walks of life showing up, including that emergency physician, teachers, a rabbi, an NYC firefighter, etc. I think they arrested about 50 people in 4 days just by sitting on the Internet.

As for the physician, there was no sexual dialogue between the boy and himself, but anyone can put 2+2 together with his intentions. If he seriously was going over there to comfort a neglected child, he had a critical absence of judgement in his decision to come to the house of a child home alone.

You're kidding about Dubin, right?

I'm always surprised by how many people have never heard about this. Especially since we had this discussion here on this forum a month or two ago when discussing the best EKG books. ;)

I always want to break out the line from Lebowski when someone asks me if my Dubin is a good book (which it is).

"Yes, but he's a pederast."
"Yeah..."
"No really Dude, he's a sex offender, with a record."

You know, I'm going with Marriott's Practical Electrocardiography. Clear, comprehensive, and no moral qualms!

Garcia baby!!!! Thats the book right there..

haha, yeah I resisted the Dubin because of moral stuff, but actually I read through it (kind of skimming) before I knew about his problems and didn't think it was THAT good. It seemed like a good beginner, but just didn't like it as much.

Actually you're probably spot on. I first read Dubin when I was bored working in a doc's office as a college student. It is a GREAT book when you dont know anything and are trying to learn the principles of EKG. I would say that as you get deeper into it the whole "rapid interpretation" concept might fall a bit short. Sometimes it's not that easy. Dubin is also waaay short on accepted numerical criteria. I suppose if someone said "you only get 10 seconds to read an EKG" dubin might be the way to go.

...what's a pederast, Walter?

Ok, so weirdness on the whole "pedophile" front thing. I guess they featured a woman on there who tracks down pedophiles and engages them in chat until they agree to do something illegal and then they get busted. That woman = one of my college friends. We had lost touch, and she has now changed her name, so you can't find me through her :). But anyways, I must have heard about this creepy Dateline special from about 5 people!!
