Will FBI fingerprinting delay start date?

I am starting my intern year in peds in Pennsylvania. The hospital required the new interns to do FBI fingerprinting and if they did not receive the clearance by orientation, they said your start date would be delayed. My hospital told me that fingerprinting could only be done in PA and I could not make a trip from the west coast to do this. However, much later the program told me that fingerprinted cards could be mailed from out of state. Now my FBI clearance is going to be delayed due to this miscommunication. Consequences??
